Charlotte Hornets History

The original Charlotte Hornets franchise joined the NBA in 1988 and, thanks to players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Kendall Gill (and later, Glen Rice, Anthony Mason and Jamal Mashburn), enjoyed substantial success in the 1990s, starting with the 1992–93 season. Owner George Shinn moved the franchise to New Orleans in 2002.

But the NBA returned to Charlotte for the 2004–05 season with the expansion Bobcats, led by owner Robert L. Johnson, the first African-American majority owner of a team in one of the four major sports. In 2010, Michael Jordan took over majority ownership of the franchise, and in 2014, Jordan's team re-adopted the Charlotte Hornets name after the previous New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans.

During the 2017–18 season, four-time All-Star Kemba Walker became Charlotte's all-time leading scorer, surpassing original Hornet Dell Curry.

Spectrum center renovations are great! Nothing better than watching a NBA game live!

  • Not worth the price we paid.

by Sb on 11/19/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Definitely won't pay the price we did again. We had the ice club which half the people we ask had no clue what it was we had to move 3x cause the ushers had no clue the seat numbers food in the club area was ok Definitely not what I was expecting for 3 teen age boys. We really felt out of place. I was promised the associate we were dealing with would bring some goodies to my son for his birthday that never happened. Just disappointed especially after paying over 2500

  • Great experience (and a win!)

by Faye on 11/11/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue! Very clean, clear signage to find your seats. And a Hornets win!

  • Superb experience

by Jacob on 11/11/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

My son and I went to USA to see some basketball (coming from Denmark). We found out that buying a ticket to a Charlotte game (courtside) was affordable and we both know Charlotte Hornets as a good team - especially when LaMelo isn't injured. We enjoyed the game (Charlotte won) and the surroundings and will absolutely recommend it to others if you want the courtside experience too! PS! The employees were really hard working, very smiling and made the experience so much more enjoyable.

  • Amazing Experience

Seeing the NBA game live is so much better than on TV. The Spectrum Center is a great venue and our seats were amazing. Definitely worth the trip.

Fun time at Hornets vs Celtics Saturday nite. A full house, lots of enthusiasm, some good basketball. I’m excited about the Hornets this year.

  • Spectrum Center Is Disappointing

by Jay on 11/4/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Attended a basketball game. I was surprised by the limited number of men's restrooms and fixtures. The lines were extremely long as was the wait. There choices for food are also limited. I recently moved here and while the building looks fairly new, these failures make the Spectrum Center a disappointment.

  • Very Welcoming

by Jim on 11/4/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

The employees could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The seats were comfortable and the food was just right.

  • Poor organization

by Mariana on 10/29/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

The match was fine but at the entrance the men at the door kept saying different things in regards to us being able to enter or not. We were carrying bags and one small wallet. First they said we could get inside with the wallet, then another man said we couldnt. We were finally told to put our bags back in the car or else we couldn’t enter the stadium. It was raining and they wouldn’t agree on their decisions

  • Great time!

by Mary on 10/29/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

This was a gift to my daughter for her birthday! It was 5 of us in total and we sat really high. I was afraid we weren't going to be able to see but I was wrong. The views were great with the help of the jumbotron. It was her and her two friends 1st time going to an NBA game and we all had a good time!

An Awesome experience and a great thing what the Charlotte Hornets Do for the community. The kids love it and the Adults do as well, to get a chance to meet players and interact in a national basketball environment is the most exhilarating experience that anyone can ever have. So I give it a true thumbs up for the kids and the parents great time loved it, it was awesome!
