Charlotte Hornets History
The original Charlotte Hornets franchise joined the NBA in 1988 and, thanks to players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Kendall Gill (and later, Glen Rice, Anthony Mason and Jamal Mashburn), enjoyed substantial success in the 1990s, starting with the 1992–93 season. Owner George Shinn moved the franchise to New Orleans in 2002.
But the NBA returned to Charlotte for the 2004–05 season with the expansion Bobcats, led by owner Robert L. Johnson, the first African-American majority owner of a team in one of the four major sports. In 2010, Michael Jordan took over majority ownership of the franchise, and in 2014, Jordan's team re-adopted the Charlotte Hornets name after the previous New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans.
During the 2017–18 season, four-time All-Star Kemba Walker became Charlotte's all-time leading scorer, surpassing original Hornet Dell Curry.

I had a great time. Looking forward to going back again!
Seats were great and I was able to take my 12 yr old son to his first NBA game and he is officially a Hornets fan! Atmosphere was electric!
The game itself was great, not just because they won but because it was a real exciting ending! The stadium updates are very nice, well lit, good food choices, although I did miss Bojangles. The music and entertainment were great. The seats were cushioned and comfortable and a bit wider which made it not feel like you were sitting on top of the people next to you. The team store had nice items, lots of upscale brands. We will definitely be back.
Good game Appreciated the skill of the Basketball players enjoyed the time out events and halftime entertainment Fan contests were fun to watch Enjoyed the dance routines and cheerleaders
The view was great. Enjoyed the food and drinks plus double adult drinks were on point.
The Hornets have a good arena and friendly staff, but the seats were not good. We were located directly behind a handicap seating area that had chairs set up near the railing. Once people sat in those chairs nearly the whole bottom half of the court had an obstructed view. There was no way to see around the people sitting there.
The whole experience was amazing! First time ever at an actual Charlotte Hornets game or any basketball game and seeing all those players I was familiar with from watching games on tv was awesome and exciting! Charlotte Hornets vs NY Knicks what a thrill...it definitely won't be my last game 😆
From start to finish the game was electrifying! As a NYer it's always fun seeing my hometown team in Charlotte. The crowd really gets into the game. The food is good. Stadium is clean and extremely easy to get to, via light rails or car. Highly recommend
I had an exceptional experience at the Hornets vs. Knicks game on 11/26/25. The game was spectacular with an equal representation of fans for both teams. I had a great seat on the second level disabled section on my scooter. I must say that in addition to the riveting game the Spectrum Center staff are amazingly accommodating to the disabled. I sincerely appreciated the seamless direction through the crowd, security, ticketing and to the elevator to the second level. We purchased drinks and snacks then I only had roll right up to my seat. Also important to me was the large, clean bathroom that I was able to drive my scooter into with plenty of room to maneuver. I am pleasantly pleased that I now know that I can attend events at the Spectrum Center after this flawless experience. Everyone that I encountered was warm, friendly and supportive looking out for me like I was one of their family members. Spectrum Center is a top tier venue and I was treated like a VIP. Thank you for an awesome experience.
This was my second game this season and the experience spending quality time with my daughter was an experience!
