Charlotte Gainsbourg put on a very good performanc

by Anonymous on 4/19/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Charlotte was very good, had a great backup band. She was very lovely and professional, kept the songs coming, most from her recent album, IRM and some others, even one of her father's songs. She said she was a little nervous, it was her first tour. Well done. The Palace of Fine Arts was a good place to see Charlotte.

    Charlotte Live!

by alichan4 on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I was so excited to hear about this inaugural tour. For starters, the venue was perfect and set up the show with drinks, snacks and international music in the lobby prior to seating. I don't think there would have been a bad seat in the house since it is a relatively small venue. Charlotte came on stage and opened with the headline song IRM to grand fanfare. She did not do much in the way of speaking to the audience other than a polite 'thank you' after each number. I was impressed by the range of musical influences woven into the performance, everything from Brazilian and African rhythms to house dj and some serious rock. Midway through the performance she included one of her father's songs and a beautiful ballad in the infamous whispered tones. After a lengthy applause and cheering she and the band reappeared for an encore. This was the best portion of the show as the energy became more relaxed and her style seemed to become her own. Three great songs ending with Couleur Cafe during which everyone in the audience began moving to the infectious beats. Overall a fantastic performance not just musically but full of her amazing presence.

    Chere Charlotte

by olivealreadywroteanother on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Genuine, pretty voice, surely she'll become a more comfortable performer as the tours continues; she was quite stiff. Worth the experience for the iconic value.

    Simply Amazing

by DocHrm7 on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Charlotte Gainsbourg is not only an incredible actress, but she is also one of the best and unique female singers I've heard in my life time. I am grateful to her for coming to my neck of the woods and sharing with us her gifts. This was truly an experience I will not forget. Can't wait to see her again. The Palace of Fine Arts was an excellent choice of venue.

    Charlotte was adorable!

by frenchy2 on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

1st opening band was good. Second opening band was horrible. And who needs 2 opening bands?!?!?!?!?! Charlotte was charming and shy but good! She has a good voice but needs to work on her presence on stage. Her band was excellent, great musiciens. She has some great songs and some not so great. She sang two great songs from her father Serge Gainsbourg. She sang her father's songs extremely well. She needs to incorporate more of her father's repertoire in her concerts, the audience loved them. Well done Charlotte! Keep coming back and don' t be afraid to get out there we love you! Merci beaucoup.

    Charlotte is tone deaf

by Tangent123 on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

I was really disappointed. I thought she was uninspired, uninspiring, had little musical ability and should stick to acting. We couldn't take it and left a half hour into her show. Of course this is my opinion. I'm sure others enjoyed it.

Good- but sound system was off

by Rivet on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Poor opening bands- the audio feed was off-literally couldn't hear some instruments. Whatsup, Palace of FA?_ no fine art for them? There wasn't even person at the sound controls in Row.J. Charlotte has talent and the band was great! She was frozen with stage fright which is somewhat forgivable for her first tour. But she's a film actress, she should have studied lead singer performances and rehearsed. C'mon, girl! Even the great last three numbers had the audiences moving to the beat and she just stood there , hand in pocket, deer in headlights. Liked it overall, love the French songs, would see her again - after she's had a glass of wine..

    A Good Start

by Feitcerhina on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

If this was Charlotte Gainsbourg's first performance, by the end of the tour she'll be rollin'. Obvious from the start, the daughter of the French singing icon, Serge Gainsbourg, seemed uncomfortable and painfully shy. Her voice seemed tiny and hidden behind her band. Rockin' tunes like Master's Hands lacked a little punch. Things warmed up midway when she finally sang in French which is what a lot of concert goers seemed to be waiting for! Her encore of Couleur Cafe was brilliant. Despite her timidity the concert was entertaining, different and the venue was perfect . Words for Charlotte: we love you! Now relax and let yourself enjoy your own talent.

    Needs work

by DrJB on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Charlotte has a nice voice and a terrific band. Unfortunately her voice was no really audible except when she sang in French. Maybe she is more at ease or the sound technican decided we need to hear that. I think her voice is more suitable for bluesy or romantic songs and not some of the hard rock she is attempting. She also

Really hoped it would be better

by raggapants on 4/18/10Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Although Charlotte Gainsbourg's last two albums provide an excellent selection of songs, her stage presence leaves much to be desired. This is understandable, given that it's her first tour ever. We might expect some improvements in the future, but for the time being, her voice does not seem to be ready for live performance. Her live band, however, was more than excellent, and in many occasions was able to fill in on her faults.

    Charlotte was amazing!

by hawthornegirl on 4/16/10Wonder Ballroom - Portland

For her first tour ever, Charlotte was amazing. She seemed very nervous at first but after a few songs, relaxed and politely interacted with the audience. Her vocals ranged from soft and quiet to seriously rockin. She played most of the songs from IRM and two or three off of 5:55 which was a bonus. The highlight of the evening was when she dared to play Melody Nelson and did a fabulous job. She definitley inherited her father's music chops. Overall, it was a great show and one af my favorites so far. The Wonder was a great venue and there were just enough people there to enjoy the show, not too crowded. And oh yes, she is far more beautiful in person!

    Charlotte as Charlotte

by DUVATRON on 4/16/10Wonder Ballroom - Portland

What i love about Charlotte is that she' s herself. You can tell at first she's very shy, but as she warms up, she is heart felt in her thanks and her presence. Music was great as expected. Although the show started off a little slow it picked up and rocked by the end. She had the courage to rock 2 of her father's music which were rendered amazing by her obvious emotion to them. I hope she decides to tour again for her next album.

    Great band...

by Samspad on 4/16/10Wonder Ballroom - Portland

...but Charlotte was drowned out most of the time. Her voice, while quite evocative, does not seem robust enough to compete with the band, so she got lost. Her stage demeanor also lacked much color. She seemed mostly to be going through the motions with little regard for the audience. The exceptions, when she explained the background of a song, for example, were refreshing. I think she has the quality of voice, an attractiveness and a repertoire to be an excellent live performer, but this performance was only fair.

Charlotte Gainsbourg's performance was very moving, shy and intense at the same time. Musicians were excellent and gave a powerful show. She also did a couple of songs from her dad.
