About

CHARLEY PRIDE IN CONCERT:

As one of the most successful African-American country artists of all time, Charley Pride stands as a pioneer of the genre and an enduring icon of traditional country music. With more than half a century of recordings and performances under his belt, Pride is a seasoned veteran on the road, traversing his decade-spanning discography with a care and tenderness that underscores his passion for the stage. From the familiar twang of "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" to the lap steel-drenched lilt of "Just Between You and Me," Pride covered all his greatest hits at his 2013 shows, drumming up enthusiasm for more of the same on his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to poor Mississippi sharecroppers, Charley Pride had aspirations of being a major league baseball pitcher before an injury led him to invest in his other passion: music. After recording several demos in Memphis in the late '50s, pride signed with RCA, releasing his first single in 1966 with "The Snakes Crawl at Night." Pride's third single "Just Between You and Me" really broke things wide open, landing at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him a Grammy nomination. In 1967, he became the second black performer to ever take the stage at the famed Grand Ole Opry, paving the way for an astonishing chart run that saw him score eight No. 1 records between 1969-1971. Pride has continued to record and tour over the decades, racking up an impressive array of country hits and proving himself an indefatigable performer with his continued showmanship on tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Great show and he sounded as good as back in the '70s. He went through his entire portfolio and some songs I hadn't heard before."

"Close your eyes and you'd never imagine it's a 74 year old man up on the stage belting out one classic country hit after another for a solid 90 minute set. Charley Pride sounds every bit as good today as he did 30 years ago."

"It was all I expected & then some. Charlie played to the crowd & didn't limit himself to the main stage, instead moving to the side stages to interact with the entire crowd, making them feel more a part of the show."

    Charley still has it!

by acofan on 9/3/10Colorado State Fair - Pueblo

Great show. Very entertaining and Charley sounds as good as ever. We really enjoyed ourselves. My husband and I saw Charley either before we were married or just after we where married in a small town in Wyoming in 1966 or 1967. I think it was in a high school auditorium! We have not seen him again until this performance and are really glad we went.

    Charley Pride remarkable entertainer

by OceanSpringFan on 6/7/10Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

My mother is one of Charley Pride's BIGGEST FANS! I was honored to share this experience with her and my husband. This is the 4th time that she has seen him in concert and it was a first for me and my husband. The first venue was at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and her ticket stub indicated a ticket price of $7 (imagine that!) His gospel music and mentioning his mother and her influence on his life was heartfealt. I hope that he continues to tour and pay tribute to those who gave him a chance in his early years of his profession. I'm in the proceess of reading his new book and am enjoying it.

    Charley Pride Biloxi Ms 6-5-10

by RSpring361 on 6/6/10Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

In a word : incredible. My 18 year old son and I had a nice bite at the Hard Rock Cafe and then settled into our row 4 floor seat and had a great time. Charley was charming and witty and sounded great while he touched everybody with his long list of hits. His version of Mountain of Love was my personal favorite. My son really liked Where the Eagles Fly. Of course his classics were excellent as expected. A real nice time.

    Charley Pride was absolutely wonderful

by chba on 6/6/10Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

I took my mother to the concert as part of her Mother's Day present, and was so impressed with Mr. Pride's performance. I enjoy classic country and was flabergasted when the concert came to a conclusion. He sang most of the evening with very few breaks, he had a great sense of humor, and my mother said that it was the best concert that she had ever seen. I would definitely recommend going to see Mr. Pride, and I would love to attend another one of his concerts.

    Great show

by GeorgeK on 6/6/10Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Just right. Charley seems still enthused to be performing as opposed to the latest Wille Nelson show we attended. Just the right balance. Odd that we did not see a single non-white in the audience.

    Charley Pride is Amazing

by Anonymous on 5/7/10Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

He is one of the most amazing, down to earth entertainers that lives. Just true to his upbringing and true to his friends as he talks about his Mom, his tribute song to her and the way he speaks of his friends. In no way is he above anyone else, just wish other up and coming entertainers could learn something from a man that has made it to such great status in the entertainment industry. I am so proud to walk among so many people that share such a love for this person and his music. I grew up listening to this man all my life, I took my Mom to see him and the memories that his music brings, I relive my childhood all over again. Thank you Charley for allowing me to relive the best years of my life

The concert was great. Charley pride has lost some of his step but still works to put on a great show. My only problem with the show was that we went to see him in early 2009 in North Bay, Ontario and this was the same show. No real changes in the performance. It would have been nice to see him sing some of his other hits as well.

The Charlie Pride event was excellent. I was disappointed that the shuttle service did not run that night from our hotel so we had to drive. I would reccommend that concert for sure. Sure hope you bring in more events like it for the older folk.
