Hailed as a "must-see live performer" by Rolling Stone, and a "force to be reckoned with" by CMT, Charley Crockett crafts his singular "Gulf & Western" sound -- described as "very 21st century and very vintage" by NPR Music -- by synthesizing country, blues, soul, Cajun, R&B and other pieces of American Roots music. And when his voice comes out of your speakers, there is no confusing him for any other artist. As the Wall Street Journal writes, "Mr. Crockett's unique vocal style is one third Ernest Tubb honky-tonk with clipped-word diction, one third Bill Withers low-key, soulful crooning, and one third jazzy French Quarter second-line swagger."
With his latest album $10 Cowboy, Crockett didn't set out to make a themed record. He had released a concept album in 2022, the critically acclaimed The Man From Waco, propelling Crockett to new heights and establishing him as one of the leaders of a sparkling revival of traditional country and folk music.
For the follow up album, Crockett wrote freely, over a two-month period, as he wound his way across the United States on the back of a tour bus. The resulting songs--raw, personal, vivid portraits of a country in transition--ended up being connected after all.
"This material is written at truck stops, it's written at casinos, it's written in the alleys behind the venues, it's written in my truck parked up on South Congress in Austin," explains Crockett. "A ramblin' man like me, a genuine transient, is in a pretty damn good position to have something to say about America."
The album begins with the title track, a personal song that also offers a provocative idea about America. "A $10 Cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America," Crockett says. "But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, that applies to anyone who doesn't feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something."
As the album unfolds, you begin to understand that a $10 Cowboy is anyone who has hustled to get by, who didn't fit in, who has slept on other people's couches, or the street, who has fallen down, gotten up, and ventured from home chasing a paying gig, or a new start.
The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin, produced by Crockett and his long-time collaborator Billy Horton. It was recorded live to tape, with anywhere from 6-12 musicians on each track, giving the songs the feel of a live performance. It's a sound Crockett has been after for years. "The reason I cut it on tape is, when you get the right folks in the room, great players rise to the occasion. When that red light is on and the tape is rolling, you get the magic of a performance."
Crockett released his last full-length album The Man From Waco - which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year - in 2022, and the momentum he built continued into 2023. Crockett made his NPR Tiny Desk debut, was a guest on The Daily Show, and appeared on the June 2023 cover of Texas Monthly. Crockett performed at both nights of Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2023, and made his Bonnaroo debut last summer. Crockett also released The Man From Waco Redux, a companion to The Man From Waco featuring alternate versions of five songs, and Live from the Ryman, which documented Crockett's sold out November 2022 debut at the Mother Church of Country Music.

Exceeded expectations. Charley Crockett is the real deal of bluesy country. Phenomenal voice and a showman. This band is a must see at a smaller venue before they sell out a big place. Loved it!
Good turnout and great performance. Will see again.
The great depression public works Iroquois Amphitheater is a great venue for a show, even if parking is a bit of an adventure. Great places to eat in the vicinity for all tastes and a beautiful park to spend time before the show. Charley Crockett, willing to sacrifice and free to pursue his dream, was superb!! Spectacular retro show which included an amazing band that wore stage costumes for an even greater effect, provided one memorable evening for sure!! Oh yeah, Nat Myers was one of those opening acts that sets the stage for your headliner by his excellent performance. His future looks very bright, amazing voice!! If you missed it, I'd suggest sorting your life out. That is what I "REALLY"thought of the show.
Great concert at great venue. Wonderful to see a performer enjoying himself on stage
Great venue , great music Charlie Crockett is very talented musician who absolutely killed it.... Definitely will see him again anytime and everytime he comes back .
Show started late and then had to be interrupted due to thunderstorm. Everyone knew the weather was coming, it would have been easy to move up the starting time and get show in before storm.
What a fantastic show!! Loved Charley Crockett already and now I love him more. Had to take a break for lightning and could easily have canceled but he came back and put on a terrific show with amazing energy. Three song encore. He sounded great and his band was spot on. See him live if you can!! Great venue with well organized parking, plentiful concessions, clean bathrooms.
About 30 minutes into his set, it began to thunder and lightning. They paused the show for 30 minutes. Our seats were not under cover so we chose to leave before the rain started. What I did see I enjoyed! I don’t even know if they resumed the show!
Great show. Fun crowd. Got delayed by lightning but they came back on and finished.
Even with a stoppage for lightning half way through, Charley came back with an amazing set!!! He is the best live performer going today!!
This is the third show with Charley and he did not disappoint, he is an exceptional artist with an incredible voice and stage presence. The Brooklyn Paramount was a wonderful place, great sound and visually stunning.
What is the point of paying extra for ticket insurance if the insurance doesn’t do anything? I got Covid the day of this show and couldn’t go for the safety of my fellow concert goers. I was so excited to see this show and have followed this artist for a while. After accepting the disappointment of missing the show I tried to reach out to Live Nation or whoever runs this ticket selling racket and they told me that the organizers are not accepting refunds. If that is a real option organizers can opt into (which is silly) then Live Nation should never sell ticket insurance. I paid extra for this insurance and lost even more money when I had to make the difficult decision to skip the show.
Charley was great but it would have been nice to know in advance that the "VIP Balcony seats"were not really seats at all. We were early and still got stuck behind 2-3 rows of people with standing room only, had to watch the whole show between people and constant shuffling to have a decent view. Other patrons didn't seem to appreciate it either. I would have just saved money and gotten the regular GA tickets had I known there was nothing "VIP"about these tickets other than no line and a separate bar.
Love Charley Crockett. Great sound live. So many good songs-there is always some disappointment over songs he doesn't play. Missing "Trinity River"and other favorites. I will say, on a tour, the setlist does not seem to change very much from show to show. We saw him in Harrisburg, and then a week later in Philadelphia. The shows were mostly the same setlist, including the encore. Still both great shows, very entertaining. Lee Fields was the supporting artist in Philadelphia. He was fabulous. I am so very glad we got to see him live. Consider us fans now. We will be on the lookout for when he comes through again next time.
This was my third time at the Fillmore. The show was absolutely INCREDIBLE, both the opening and Charley Crockett are true entertainers. However, a group in my area were incredibly unruly, and I had to leave early because it became overwhelming. I get that people drink and have fun at shows, but these folks were way out of line. I don't know if there's any way for the venue to prevent stuff like rude behavior, but it ruined a good time for people in the area we were standing in.
Nevertheless, the 930 Club is far too crowded! Without a doubt, they should limit the number of people they allow inside. I will not be going back...
That is one of the best venues I’ve ever been to. This is the first time seeing Charlie Crocket and I will go see him every time he is in my area. If I had one complaint I think the vocals could have been turned up a little. It was a great weekend though. Thank you.
Charley Crockett is so good I last saw him 7 or so years ago as an opener for JD McPherson. I knew there was something special about Charley. Since then, he has blossomed into a wonderful entertainer. He sounds just like he does on his records when seeing him live. He had an amazing set list full of old and new tracks. He even played my favorite song as an encore. If you can manage to get tickets to Charley, 10/10 recommend his style and unique music will not disappoint.
the concert was great, sang his heart out for almost two hours, no breaks and an encore. band was fantastic.
