Hailed as a "must-see live performer" by Rolling Stone, and a "force to be reckoned with" by CMT, Charley Crockett crafts his singular "Gulf & Western" sound -- described as "very 21st century and very vintage" by NPR Music -- by synthesizing country, blues, soul, Cajun, R&B and other pieces of American Roots music. And when his voice comes out of your speakers, there is no confusing him for any other artist. As the Wall Street Journal writes, "Mr. Crockett's unique vocal style is one third Ernest Tubb honky-tonk with clipped-word diction, one third Bill Withers low-key, soulful crooning, and one third jazzy French Quarter second-line swagger."
With his latest album $10 Cowboy, Crockett didn't set out to make a themed record. He had released a concept album in 2022, the critically acclaimed The Man From Waco, propelling Crockett to new heights and establishing him as one of the leaders of a sparkling revival of traditional country and folk music.
For the follow up album, Crockett wrote freely, over a two-month period, as he wound his way across the United States on the back of a tour bus. The resulting songs--raw, personal, vivid portraits of a country in transition--ended up being connected after all.
"This material is written at truck stops, it's written at casinos, it's written in the alleys behind the venues, it's written in my truck parked up on South Congress in Austin," explains Crockett. "A ramblin' man like me, a genuine transient, is in a pretty damn good position to have something to say about America."
The album begins with the title track, a personal song that also offers a provocative idea about America. "A $10 Cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America," Crockett says. "But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, that applies to anyone who doesn't feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something."
As the album unfolds, you begin to understand that a $10 Cowboy is anyone who has hustled to get by, who didn't fit in, who has slept on other people's couches, or the street, who has fallen down, gotten up, and ventured from home chasing a paying gig, or a new start.
The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin, produced by Crockett and his long-time collaborator Billy Horton. It was recorded live to tape, with anywhere from 6-12 musicians on each track, giving the songs the feel of a live performance. It's a sound Crockett has been after for years. "The reason I cut it on tape is, when you get the right folks in the room, great players rise to the occasion. When that red light is on and the tape is rolling, you get the magic of a performance."
Crockett released his last full-length album The Man From Waco - which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year - in 2022, and the momentum he built continued into 2023. Crockett made his NPR Tiny Desk debut, was a guest on The Daily Show, and appeared on the June 2023 cover of Texas Monthly. Crockett performed at both nights of Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2023, and made his Bonnaroo debut last summer. Crockett also released The Man From Waco Redux, a companion to The Man From Waco featuring alternate versions of five songs, and Live from the Ryman, which documented Crockett's sold out November 2022 debut at the Mother Church of Country Music.

I have never been to a better concert. Not only was Charley and his band entertaining, but they were lively and fun! I enjoyed how quickly the songs moved and the way that he engaged with the crowd. He was humble and friendly; which is exactly what an artist should be! I would absolutely recommend this talented artist and his band to anyone and everyone. Great time and even better music!
Charley was super-high energy, the band was killing it, the auditorium was rocking! One of the best shows I've ever attended. While Charley belted out his hits mixed in with new stuff, he jived across the stage drawing roars from the nearly full-attendance crowd. The guy is an amazing musician, but even more than that, he's a performer. Will Rogers Auditorium was a great venue for the show, although there were only three concession stands and so lines before the show were a bit long. A minor complaint. I would definitely see a show there again.

Charlie Crockett was amazing. Opener was very good too. Loved the show. Acoustics not too bad, parking was fast and easy, no traffic jams in or out, entry to the venue was no problem. Now for the bad. Finding your seats for the first time when the lights are down is impossible without an attendant. The seats are very very cramped both width of the seat and depth of the row. The grade of the rows is such a slight angle that it is very hard to see over someone in front of you. For reference for both complaints, I’m 5’9” so not tall enough to be that cramped nor short enough to have that much difficulty seeing around people in front of me. People don’t stand up to let you by, the whole row has to exit the row to let people in and out. Finally, there is no excuse for the concessions. The bartenders were molasses slow, and to get a drink one would have to stand in line for at least 45 minutes. I did stand in the line for about 30 and gave up because the headliner was starting. I can’t wait to see Charlie Crockett again, but I have very little interest in going back to Will Rogers Auditorium.
Sounds just like it was recorded in the studio. Charlie is the best performer I’ve seen in years. His sound of the old country that I grew up with is still alive with him. I can’t get enough of it. Gets better with every song.

Charley and Lucas are top notch original country. The wife and I had a great time and they have fans forever.

Charley Crockett is a showman, and one of the best country music artist's today. He doesn't play bubblegum radio country. He plays the real stuff.
Great concert. His show is to what I’d imagine you’d get if a Chuck Berry concert and a Hank Williams concert had a little concert baby. Maybe a splash of James Brown on the dance moves. My musical taste is all over the board, and I had as good of a time as I’ve had at Iron Maiden, Garth Brooks or Red Hot Chili Peppers show. No joke.
You can't go wrong with Charley Crockett and Vincent Neil Emerson!! I love the Knit bc it's smaller and the drinks are strong.

The Knitting Factory is dirty, claustrophobic and feels like a fire hazard. That being said they have great music and love that they are using paper straws.
If you like Charley Crockett his concerts are a must! His music is even better in person and he loves to have fun. His band and opener were also amazing. Best concert I’ve been too!
