Hailed as a "must-see live performer" by Rolling Stone, and a "force to be reckoned with" by CMT, Charley Crockett crafts his singular "Gulf & Western" sound -- described as "very 21st century and very vintage" by NPR Music -- by synthesizing country, blues, soul, Cajun, R&B and other pieces of American Roots music. And when his voice comes out of your speakers, there is no confusing him for any other artist. As the Wall Street Journal writes, "Mr. Crockett's unique vocal style is one third Ernest Tubb honky-tonk with clipped-word diction, one third Bill Withers low-key, soulful crooning, and one third jazzy French Quarter second-line swagger."
With his latest album $10 Cowboy, Crockett didn't set out to make a themed record. He had released a concept album in 2022, the critically acclaimed The Man From Waco, propelling Crockett to new heights and establishing him as one of the leaders of a sparkling revival of traditional country and folk music.
For the follow up album, Crockett wrote freely, over a two-month period, as he wound his way across the United States on the back of a tour bus. The resulting songs--raw, personal, vivid portraits of a country in transition--ended up being connected after all.
"This material is written at truck stops, it's written at casinos, it's written in the alleys behind the venues, it's written in my truck parked up on South Congress in Austin," explains Crockett. "A ramblin' man like me, a genuine transient, is in a pretty damn good position to have something to say about America."
The album begins with the title track, a personal song that also offers a provocative idea about America. "A $10 Cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America," Crockett says. "But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, that applies to anyone who doesn't feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something."
As the album unfolds, you begin to understand that a $10 Cowboy is anyone who has hustled to get by, who didn't fit in, who has slept on other people's couches, or the street, who has fallen down, gotten up, and ventured from home chasing a paying gig, or a new start.
The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin, produced by Crockett and his long-time collaborator Billy Horton. It was recorded live to tape, with anywhere from 6-12 musicians on each track, giving the songs the feel of a live performance. It's a sound Crockett has been after for years. "The reason I cut it on tape is, when you get the right folks in the room, great players rise to the occasion. When that red light is on and the tape is rolling, you get the magic of a performance."
Crockett released his last full-length album The Man From Waco - which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year - in 2022, and the momentum he built continued into 2023. Crockett made his NPR Tiny Desk debut, was a guest on The Daily Show, and appeared on the June 2023 cover of Texas Monthly. Crockett performed at both nights of Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2023, and made his Bonnaroo debut last summer. Crockett also released The Man From Waco Redux, a companion to The Man From Waco featuring alternate versions of five songs, and Live from the Ryman, which documented Crockett's sold out November 2022 debut at the Mother Church of Country Music.

Phenomenal all-around show. Charley is a superb showman and entertainer. He played for a full hour and a half including a four-song encore- and that was going straight from song-to-song, no waiting. The energy in the room by the end was palpable. Colby T. Helms was a great opener also!

I had never seen Charley Crockett in concert and he was such a phenomenal performer. I love that there were so many different aspects, including the trumpet player from New Orleans. He is AMAZING!!!!
Charley’s voice is the best. He put on an amazing show. He’s got so much talent, I do not understand how he isn’t more mainstream, so underrated!!!
The concert hall was GREAT!! I bet there is not a bad seat in the house! The sound was GREAT!! The video screens where GREAT!! And, of course, Charley Crocket was GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!! My one complaint: This was my first time at Choctaw. Prior to going, I had studied a satellite image and decided I wanted to park in a surface lot. But, when we got there, it looked like the surface lots were caged off (maybe only for employees??). Prior to the event, I had found a map of the Choctaw interior, and I made a print copy of it. But, once inside, it was like the map did me NO good! And, I thought the signage within the casino was terrible. We had to ask employees 3 different times how to get to the Grand Theater.
If there is a better touring act right now I cannot imagine who it could be! Charley is just so talented.
I liked the whole venue!! The acoustics were amazing!! Great seating to be able to see well!! Only complaints would be around finding the parking lot for The Grand Theatre plus signage as to where the entrance was!!!!
Charley Crocket has an amazingly unique voice!! His cadence is generally slow and my old ears can understand what he’s singing! When talking to the audience between some songs, he seemed genuinely humble and happy to be where he is in his career. I would DEFINITELY recommend everyone see CC live!
Tickets were too high. Seats were terribly cramped and uncomfortable for as much as tickets were for second row. Show and performance was top notch
Second time to see in concert; longtime follower. Always exceeds expectations!! Charlie works hard to deliver; not many do anymore. And his fusion blend of blues, folk, and country is absolutely unique!! There's only one Charlie Crockett!!
Charlie Crockett is a great show. You can tell he loves what he does and is going to do everything he can so that you do as well.
Everything about the experience was fantastic! The opening band was equally amazing. So many talented musicians with great music. I love Charley’s sound - the blend of classic country, Texas Swing, and blues.
Charley puts on an amazing show. He has a great voice, interacts great with the crowd, and has an amazing band that he’s touring with currently. When was the last time you saw the piano/keyboard player playing trumpet with one hand and keys with the other? The bass player alternates between stand up bass and electric bass. The drummer is fantastic, and the pedal steel player is top notch. Charley May have sold out the show in Kansas City as I haven’t see. The Uptown Theatre that packed for years. Go see Charley Crocket while he’s still playing theatres!
Charlie was GREAT! Opening act was way better than expected. Crowd was enthusiastic and of course the venue was spectacular. Great singer, great material. Could never t I f asked from r a better show!

Charley never disappoints! He puts on a show and you can tell he loves what he does. Will see him as many times as possible! Got there early and was right in the front where I wanted to be. Venue was great - first time there. I am happy people out there are finally getting to hear this great artist - Mr Charley may you have a career like not other...you deserve it!
I am not one for reviews, but this show just completely blew us out of the water. Charley is an absolute showman and will give you the absolute time of your life during his concerts. We felt so fortunate to be in his midst. The music. The comradery. The effects. The heart and the LOVE. Incredible incredible show and we can't wait to attend the next one.
