Hailed as a "must-see live performer" by Rolling Stone, and a "force to be reckoned with" by CMT, Charley Crockett crafts his singular "Gulf & Western" sound -- described as "very 21st century and very vintage" by NPR Music -- by synthesizing country, blues, soul, Cajun, R&B and other pieces of American Roots music. And when his voice comes out of your speakers, there is no confusing him for any other artist. As the Wall Street Journal writes, "Mr. Crockett's unique vocal style is one third Ernest Tubb honky-tonk with clipped-word diction, one third Bill Withers low-key, soulful crooning, and one third jazzy French Quarter second-line swagger."
With his latest album $10 Cowboy, Crockett didn't set out to make a themed record. He had released a concept album in 2022, the critically acclaimed The Man From Waco, propelling Crockett to new heights and establishing him as one of the leaders of a sparkling revival of traditional country and folk music.
For the follow up album, Crockett wrote freely, over a two-month period, as he wound his way across the United States on the back of a tour bus. The resulting songs--raw, personal, vivid portraits of a country in transition--ended up being connected after all.
"This material is written at truck stops, it's written at casinos, it's written in the alleys behind the venues, it's written in my truck parked up on South Congress in Austin," explains Crockett. "A ramblin' man like me, a genuine transient, is in a pretty damn good position to have something to say about America."
The album begins with the title track, a personal song that also offers a provocative idea about America. "A $10 Cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America," Crockett says. "But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, that applies to anyone who doesn't feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something."
As the album unfolds, you begin to understand that a $10 Cowboy is anyone who has hustled to get by, who didn't fit in, who has slept on other people's couches, or the street, who has fallen down, gotten up, and ventured from home chasing a paying gig, or a new start.
The album was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin, produced by Crockett and his long-time collaborator Billy Horton. It was recorded live to tape, with anywhere from 6-12 musicians on each track, giving the songs the feel of a live performance. It's a sound Crockett has been after for years. "The reason I cut it on tape is, when you get the right folks in the room, great players rise to the occasion. When that red light is on and the tape is rolling, you get the magic of a performance."
Crockett released his last full-length album The Man From Waco - which Rolling Stone named the #2 best Country album of the year - in 2022, and the momentum he built continued into 2023. Crockett made his NPR Tiny Desk debut, was a guest on The Daily Show, and appeared on the June 2023 cover of Texas Monthly. Crockett performed at both nights of Willie Nelson's 90th birthday celebration at the Hollywood Bowl in April 2023, and made his Bonnaroo debut last summer. Crockett also released The Man From Waco Redux, a companion to The Man From Waco featuring alternate versions of five songs, and Live from the Ryman, which documented Crockett's sold out November 2022 debut at the Mother Church of Country Music.

Best concert I’ve been to. Charley Crockett is a great performer and his band is amazing. Fox Theater was a great venue for his concert as well. I look forward to seeing Charley Crockett again and again.

Bottom line is that Charley has a tremendous stage presence with a super-tight band and attention to detail. The first half of his show was old-school country. Charley plays guitar and banjo, and performs without an instrument. Again the band was tight! Great lead guitar, steel guitar, piano (and trumpet), and country bass. Despite his way-south San Bentio, TX-country bonafides, Charley considers himself a bluesman, and the second half of the show was rollicking and icing on the cake to this Mississippi boy who traveled to Idaho (in part) to see Charley Crockett. His live shows had been highly recommended to me but I'd missed him three times before (twice his shows opening for Willie had been rescheduled then cancelled). I'm happy to have finally caught him & encourage others to see him live as many others had encouraged me.
First time seeing a show at the Botanical Gardens and it won’t be our last. Lots of room to spread out, got to hang by the stage and despite the heat, it was a 5 star experience!
Charley Crockett and his band were spot on from first note until the end of the set. As the sun went down and the temps began to dip, the crown swayed and sung along to the lyrics in the beautiful scenic setting of the Idaho Botanical gardens. Definitely worth the price of admission. Molly Tuttle did well as the opener as well.
We always love a good show at the Idaho Botanical Gardens and this was one of the best! The venue is roomy enough to spread out with friends and still get close to the action when you want. Charley Crockett was sooo good too! His voice is soulful and takes you back to the old days of country. Loved him so much!
Was a really great show, big fan of Charley Crockett and he did not disappoint, sounds even better in person. The Danforth Hall was a good venue, had a lot of fun.

Saw Drayton Farley and his band first. They were much like Jason Isbell and the 400 unit, which was to say- fantastic. Had a lightning delay for roughly 1 hour. Charley and his band came out after the delay and put on one of the best live performances ever. Seriously- figure out a way to get tickets to see them live. Phenomenal.
Charles Crockett killed it despite the horrendous accoustics at The Ritz. It’s widely know that you can’t understand anything even though the volume is loud. The venue is Live Nation owned, so nothing will ever change. Garbage venue whose sound setup is an insult to the amazingly talented artists who are forced to play there.
Charley Crockett is amazing in concert. The music was great and he is quite a show man. Would definitely love to see him perform again.
Saw him play last 2 shows at Saturn. Seeing him at Avondale with so many more fans was amazing! Avondale is always a great venue and the people are always great.
Great show- my only regret was not grabbing the balcony seats. Me and my lady are on the shorter side and there were just way too many cowboy hats to see much!
Layout and sound of the venue isn’t great. Outdoor space is cool, but not good speakers to hear the music if you step out.

Crockett delivered a fantastic show. The process, staff, and ability to get a drink quickly at The Ritz is great. The acoustics in that building absolutely suck, though. Every band I've ever seen there, the quality of the sound is just not right.

The opener was very fun and entertaining and it was cool seeing how he was connected to Charley. And when Charley came out it was amazing. The atmosphere and vibe of the venue mixed with his style of performance was amazing. I wish I could have stayed all night!
