by SeanEdward on 1/18/20Rating: 5 out of 5I just saw Champions of Magic, in Saskatoon, and wanted to take a moment to provide a review...what a fabulous show ! All of the performers are very good...truly captivating to watch individually, but the way in which they interact with one another, is also quite wonderful. All of them demonstrate skill and talent in their particular genre of magic...whether mentalism, escapes, sleight of hand, or grand illusion. Each of them are also funny and charming, as they talk and engage with the audience, while in the midst of their perfomance. Being a life-long fan of magic and magicians, I've seen a fair number of shows, both large and small, from Doug Henning and David Copperfield, to smaller "local" performances. One particular show I saw a few years ago, "The Illusionists"....was a huge disappointment....lots of talk used as "filler", with very little magic thrown in. Rest assured, "Champions of Magic" is sooooo much better, in every respect. Even when it comes to one of the performers, lovely young lady named "Kayla", so capably demonstrating close-up magic. The use of a live cameraman on stage, and a large viewscreen suspended above the stage, allows for a good view, even from a seated position in the audience. The comedic interplay of the duo "Young and Strange" adds a whole other layer of entertainment, which really caught me by surprise....magic doesn't have to be all serious ! Their on-stage production of a "tiger" is hilarious ! The feats of mentalism, were truly astounding...leaves one feeling bewildered, at times a little freaked out, in a very good way ! The "death defying escapes" were absolutely breathtaking, and the grand illusions towards the end of the show were stunning. All topped off with an homage to magic legends, Siegfried and Roy....accompanied by requiste pop music of the era. An absolutely wonderful show, which I would strongly recommend. After the show, all of the performers were put in the lobby area, to meet fans, young and not-so-young, who wanted to say hello, or have a picture taken with them. My kids, who are 22 and 24 years old, have never had much of an interest in magic, and yet they came to see the show with me, and they loved it as much as I did ! If you get the opprtunity to see this show, I strongly recommend that you do so....you'llbe glad that you did !
