Celtic Thunder in Concert

Seeing Irish musical phenomenon Celtic Thunder in person offers more than you might expect from a typical concert. The settings and showmanship are akin to a Broadway theatrical production, with a wealth of musical talent at the center of it. The five singers who make up Celtic Thunder are all enormously gifted vocalists, and their blend of Irish folk flavors with pop is a carefully concocted brew. But you get something extra when you see them live in concert. The elaborate stage visuals that accompany Celtic Thunder's performances are an essential part of the proceedings, leading the group to capture many past productions on CD and DVD. The combination of musicality and theatricality has made the group an international sensation since their start in the late 2000s. Every tour is a unique production unto itself: from 2008's The Show to 2012's Voyage, 2013's Mythology, and now their 2018 tour, X.

Celtic Thunder Background

The foresight of producer Sharon Browne first brought Celtic Thunder together. Browne’s vision combines the talents of five young, world-class Irish vocalists for a project that is as much about live performance as recordings, and creating a sound that keeps traditional Irish music at its core, while opening itself up to other influences—including contemporary pop/rock, spirituals, and holiday music. Ryan Kelly, Damian McGinty, Paul Byron, George Donaldson, and Keith Harkin made up the original quintet that formed in Ireland in 2007. On early albums like ‘Celtic Thunder: The Show’ and ‘Celtic Thunder: Act Two,’ they established an approach that appealed to a broad cross section of music fans, and they performed concerts that brought elaborate visuals and bold theatricality into the mix. Today only Kelly and McGinty remain from the original lineup, but Celtic Thunder continues to be an international sensation, and the group's peerless vocals and unbridled showmanship remain on point.

    Excellent

by CJ on 11/15/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Loved the whole concert and fantastic songs. I’ve been watching them since Damian was 14 on PBS. Glad he’s still with the group. Loved them all. Come back and Boston is waiting for their first live video or CD

    Fabulous Show

by Pauline on 11/15/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Celtic Thunder performed a fabulous show at the Chevalier Theater. The only drawback was that we could not see them on stage from row M in the balcony. Thank goodness there was the video of them above the stage.

    Amazing Once Again

    by K&M on 11/15/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

As always, Celtic Thunder does not disappoint. The show is fast moving yet timed to fully enjoy the fast fun Irish songs as well as the soft Irish ballads. Look forward to seeing this group whenever the opportunity arises.

    Enjoyable but not the best.

    by Grampy1948 on 11/14/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Enjoyable show but I guess I'm spoiled by memories of the original singers with their individual styles that also were also able to work well with the rest of their group.

Accessibility is an issue at Chevalier

by AMD on 11/14/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

The Celtic Thunder show was wonderful but the Chevalier Theater is not equipped to handle more than a few people with mobility issues. There were multiple people with mobility issues attending the show and consequently there was an approximately 20 minute wait (standing in the freezing parking lot) to access the theater’s single elevator. I was not sure my 91 year old mother would make it through the line. Fortunately she did and the show was great but I would think twice about attending another show at Chevalier

    Celtic Thunder

by irish on 11/14/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

The performance was very good, the venue needs improvement on how they manage patrons. The management could consider letting people enter the theater earlier especially people using canes and walkers.

    Terrific performance! Terrible venue !

by Patti L on 11/14/23Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Celtic Thunder was so fantastic and delightful! They have beautiful voices and wonderful personalities. The show was so good! Everyone who has the opportunity to see them should go for it! The Chevalier Theater had good acoustics but did not feel like a venue that complied with safety and fire regulations! Celtic Thunder please come back to another place!

    Always a good time!

by AnneS on 11/14/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

Seeing Celtic Thunder is a joy! Regardless of the size of venue, Celtic Thunder always manages to make the audience feel like a close group. Old favorites and new songs keep the show from being something you've heard before. Volume was slightly loud, and it was a shame Ryan wasn't singing that night, but neither of these keep me from attending.

    DISAPPOINTING

    by S. G. on 11/13/23

The first four songs they looked like they were going to fall asleep on their feet, there was no stage presence, Emmett looked like he was going to pass out from exhaustion, there were no Celtic women in dresses, the drummer was out of view by a tambourine, and I was in the tenth row. I paid close to $1000 and would not pay 20. Damian was the only one who looked like he was having fun. I was expecting Celtic Thunder that I fell in love with on YouTube. These guys were good but they were not Celtic Thunder. So sad!! So disappointed. Really was expecting so much more.

Celtic Thunder never disappoints. This show is among their very best. The songs, arrangements and the entire production is top-notch. Could not have asked for more (except Ryan Kelly! We missed him and send him lots of love!)
