Celtic Thunder in Concert

Seeing Irish musical phenomenon Celtic Thunder in person offers more than you might expect from a typical concert. The settings and showmanship are akin to a Broadway theatrical production, with a wealth of musical talent at the center of it. The five singers who make up Celtic Thunder are all enormously gifted vocalists, and their blend of Irish folk flavors with pop is a carefully concocted brew. But you get something extra when you see them live in concert. The elaborate stage visuals that accompany Celtic Thunder's performances are an essential part of the proceedings, leading the group to capture many past productions on CD and DVD. The combination of musicality and theatricality has made the group an international sensation since their start in the late 2000s. Every tour is a unique production unto itself: from 2008's The Show to 2012's Voyage, 2013's Mythology, and now their 2018 tour, X.

Celtic Thunder Background

The foresight of producer Sharon Browne first brought Celtic Thunder together. Browne’s vision combines the talents of five young, world-class Irish vocalists for a project that is as much about live performance as recordings, and creating a sound that keeps traditional Irish music at its core, while opening itself up to other influences—including contemporary pop/rock, spirituals, and holiday music. Ryan Kelly, Damian McGinty, Paul Byron, George Donaldson, and Keith Harkin made up the original quintet that formed in Ireland in 2007. On early albums like ‘Celtic Thunder: The Show’ and ‘Celtic Thunder: Act Two,’ they established an approach that appealed to a broad cross section of music fans, and they performed concerts that brought elaborate visuals and bold theatricality into the mix. Today only Kelly and McGinty remain from the original lineup, but Celtic Thunder continues to be an international sensation, and the group's peerless vocals and unbridled showmanship remain on point.

by wolfpackangel99 on 9/6/09US Bank Theatre (Target Center) - Minneapolis

I saw this magnificent group on PBS..I had only caught the tail end of young Damian's performance of "Puppy Love"... I waited for the next airing on TPT(here in MPLS-St. Paul) and I was blown away!!(I also bought the DVD!) I decided that I wanted to see this group live.... I bought my tickets, the night of the concert at Target Center....(I was supposed to be working in St. Paul at the Xcel Energy Center for KDWB'S Jingleball...) I took my friend Christine with me.. had SO MUCH FUN!!!! I spent SO MUCH money, but it was worth it! I can't wait to see these awesome gentlemen in MPLS, again on Oct. 29th!! It's going to be awesome!!!!

    Awesome!

by KelleyU on 8/17/09St. Pete Forum - Tampa

I was fortunate to see them on WSFU - public TV; and then they came into town (Tampa, Florida) almost a year later - I can't tell you how beautiful the experience it was - you root for IRELAND when they sing "brother's in arms"; you cry; and feel overwhelmingly the love they have for thier homeland, they truely are a blessing for any age to listen too. I went and saw the "Celtic Women" and although they sing beautifully they didn't move me and my husband, or son as I expected them too. So now I am taking my son to see them for his 29th birthday; Culture in today's times is important to cultivate with beautiful music and wonderful entertainer's and they are all this and much more! Please come back to Tampa soon! But until then I will go to St. Petersburg, Florida to see you again.

Saw them on PBS then in person last December in Mpls. FANTASTIIC!! I have been playing the cd over and over and was overjoyed to hear they are going to be in Mpls, again this October. I saw a few minutes of the new show on PBS (would have watched it all if I had known it was on at that time) and can't wait to go again. Damian has grown so much since the first show but his singing is still great!

CELTIC THUNDER JUST TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY!

by neenypooh on 8/6/09Chicago Gaelic Park - Chicago

We were very lucky to be at an event that they were at in 2008 & I had only seen the PBS show at that time once. They were better (which I couldn't believe could be possible) in person!!!! Their voices are remarkable & showmanship is fantastic. They kid around with each other which makes it even more appealing! Sharon & Phil, you've certainly outdown yourselves this time! I can't get enough of them! I have the DVD & both CD's & watch & listen whenever I can. My 3 grandsons who are 6,5 & 4 pretend they're the guys & know every word & action. They even talked me into getting them a Bodhran (small) so they can be the Bodran guy. They're so cute to watch. The 6 year old is taking drum lessons & knows every beat for the 2 drummers for "Heartland", "Irelands Call" & "Raggle Taggle Gyspy". He loves Phil Coulter & has me watch him as Phil conduting the orchestra. I did buy them the DVD, & their parents are watching them at home with it. I cannot say enough about what great joy these wonderful young entertainers have brought into our lives. Thank you so very much!

    Celtic Thunder touches your heart.....

by gsm1124 on 8/4/09Denver Wells Fargo Theater - Denver

I was lucky enough to see Celtic Thunder twice in the Fall of 2008 - in Kansas City at the Sprint Center and in Denver at the Wells Fargo theatre. The music and the lads are absolutely amazing. I started following them in April 2008 when I first saw them on PBS - now I am a confirmed "Thunderhead" and anxiously await any news and new recording. I am hoping to see the Fall 2009 show in Denver. The music touches you in a very special way - and the men are "REAL" - as we have come to know them, they are great friends. Definately - I reommend Celtic Thunder "Take Me Home".

The Most Uplifting Event I Have Seen!!!!!

by NaninCO on 7/30/09Wells Fargo Center - Denver

I saw Celtic Thunder when they came to Denver, CO and it was amazing. By the time I saw them in person I already knew all the songs and who sang them. I had been by introduced to this production by PBS and have become a "Thunderhead" and then some. I have just seen the "Take Me Home" preview and once again they have produced a fantastic event. I think they provide wholesome, uplifting music that should put a smile on everyone's face and a jig in everyone's feet. THEY ARE THE BEST!!! Would recommend this to everyone.

    Celtic Thunder''s First Tour

by JuliaS on 7/27/09Comcast Spectrum - Philadelphia

This is simply one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is very family friendly, so those of you who would like to expose your children to the musical arts, this is a great place to do so. With original songs and covers that we all know and love there is truly something for everyone. I do not think there is an other show with as much diversity in the music being presented at this show either. there is folk, classical, and modern music all brought to one stage. I would recommend anyone of any age or taste in music giving this group a try, you will be surprised.
