Cavetown Live in Concert

Born Robin Skinner in Oxford, United Kingdom, Cavetown is a project of the classically trained, Cambridge-based musician. Skinner rose to prominence in the music scene in the mid-2000s by developing a popular YouTube channel with ukulele-infused covers of pop music icons like Elvis Presley, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, and Twenty-One Pilots. However, music was a crucial part of Skinner's life from the outset. By the age of 8, Skinner's father was named the Director of Music at Cambridge University. Skinner began recording original music in 2013 and founded the project Cavetown a year later, releasing self-written, self-recorded singles and albums almost immediately. Cavetown's first taste of commercial success came in 2015 with the hit single "This is Home." Cavetown went on to release their self-titled debut album later that year. Recently, Cavetown paired up with singer/songwriter and guitarist beabadoobee to create the recently released "Fall in Love with a Girl," which Cavetown described in a statement as being "about someone who's struggling with their sexuality and how that affects their happiness.

    Great show but bad start

    by kaspian on 8/7/23

I got to the venue at around five, and although I was about an HOUR early, I still ended up waiting in line past 6 pm, and missed the entirety of grent perez, and one of Ricky’s songs. Very sad for me. The show itself was very good, although a bit hard to see because all of the dads managed to stand directly in front of me, haha. But that’s not really an issue.

    Best show in Central Park

    by Ed M. on 8/6/23

Cavetown and friends played a big show outdoors in Central Park. It was a very calming experience. I took my teenage daughter to see this four-hour show. The music was happy and soothing. Many in the audience had rainbow flags. I am grateful to Cavetown for playing this show. Based on the turnout, the next tour will probably be in arenas

    Performers were awesome...

    by JM on 8/6/23

Everyone that performed was wonderful they seem kind and they are very talented and the crowd really responded to them. The venue however Has some issues first of all there is no clear sign adjust to where people are supposed to lineup to get in so there was a lot of confusion about that the line was very long but that was to be expected however they didn't even start letting us in until after one of the performers had already started and that is not okay. If you pay money first show you should get to see the whole thing. The EMTs at the event were very kind and conscientious.

    Amazing performances, terrible venue

    by Saz on 8/6/23

The original sets for all artists were cut shorter. They let people in as Grent was performing so a majority of ticket holders missed an entire set list. Everyone was great but idk why we paid to see 4 performances and only got to see 3.

    It was an experience.

    by Vincia on 8/6/23

The event doors opened at 6pm. The opening act started preforming at 6pm, so a lot of people missed the first performance. There was only one tent with Cavetown merchandise. I waited on line for 56 minutes for that, then had to go wait at a separate tent to purchase merchandise from the other artists.

Great show but open the venue earlier!!!

    by Liz on 8/6/23

The concert itself was great, but I don't understand why they didn't let people in the venue earlier. We got to the concert venue a little after 4 PM, and there was already a pretty long line ahead of us, but that was nothing compared to the line that started forming behind us. It was sprawling all around the parc, in every direction we looked we could see tons of people waiting for the concert. We thought the venue would start letting people in at least an hour early, but the line didn't start moving until 6, and as we got closer we could hear that the first artist had already started performing. We finally got in the venue at 6:16, and the first set was already over, we completely missed it! And we were not that far back in line! And considering how long it was, so many people must have missed the second set as well. This is of course in no way the performers' fault, they gave a great show (at least the 3 that I managed to see), but it boggles my mind that Grent Perez had to go up there and start performing for basically an empty crowd and that barely anyone got to see his set. It would have been so much better for everybody if people were let in to the venue an hour early!! I still can't believe they didn't do that!!!! The rest of the show was definitely worth it though, but I guess it was kind of a ////bittersweet//// experience because of how poorly the line was handled.

Overall good, but missed one of openers

    by Gianna on 8/6/23

Concert was at Summerstage in Central Park and the line was ridiculously long. There was no indication of whether the doors opened at 6 or the show started at 6. My friends and I got at the back of the very long line at about 5:15, and the line did not start moving until about 6. However, we could hear that the first opener had already starting playing. We were able to make it in time for the second opener and the show was great, but it was frustrating that we didn’t get to see 100% of the show we paid for

Community and caring + great show

    by KCO on 8/6/23

I had the most amazing time connecting with fans of Cavetown and singing along to my favorite songs. Cavetown was an absolute delight to see live, he was truly compassionate towards the well-being of his fans and spoke words of comfort and wisdom regarding some of his harder-hitting songs. Very fun lights show too, no sound hiccups. The queer energy all around was unparalleled. Not sure if this is also a review for the accompanying acts Mxmtoon and Ricky Montgomery but they were also fantastic. Thrilled they had a joint song. Only downside - Central Park Summerstage venue didn't do the greatest job with line management and didn't let people in until last minute, so most attendees missed Grent Perez's music and I didn't want to wait in line for merch while songs I liked were already playing.

    Very Caring

    by JJ on 8/2/23

The concert was wonderful, however it was incredibly hot outside. The bands and the venue were both incredibly caring and worked very hard to make sure everyone stayed safe from the heat. When someone passed out from the heat the artists would stop the show to get them help. The entire time, the venue was passing out free waters for anyone who needed it. Overall a very good experience.

    BEST CONCERT EVER.

    by Percy on 8/1/23

Literal queer joy in a concert. All the artists were so lovely and every song was amazing. The crowd was awesome, the merch was cheap, there were cool down rooms and water stations, and there were indoor bathrooms that were clean!! I could not have imagined a better experience. And the tickets weren’t expensive!
