About

Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer - living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end...and finds something he never expected. This delightfully entertaining musical has been created by a Tony Award®-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), a swinging score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).

This musical is not nearly as good as the movie. If the movie did not exist I would give this musical 3.5 stars. The lead looked the part but vocially was disappointing.

We really enjoyed the performance and highly recommend seeing it!

Saw this on Broadway so was a little disappointed with the Chicago production. Didn't have the energy or the strong cast of the New York show. The sound was so low that it was difficult to hear what they were saying/singing.

  • A musical men will enjoy as well!

My dad likes live music so I thought this would be fun for his birthday. He thoroughly enjoyed the show as did my husband, myself and my mom. The music is great, humor is tasteful and storyline compelling. Highly recommended. We talked them into Book of Mormon now!

From beginning to end I didn't want to miss a beat. It was dramatic, comedic and suspenseful. Truly for all ages. My 16 year old daughter enjoyed it just as much.

We really enjoyed the show - the singing and dancing were fantastic.

My husband and I went to see the show for my birthday. We were unsure what to expect, but so pleasantly surprised, it was excellent! Our seats were great, dress circle row B centre stage. The theatre was absolutely beautiful, very special. The row in front of us A had a spectacular view -will book this one next time. The show was humorous, colourful, slick, great songs and fast faced, and 2 1/2 hours long!! The crowd went wild at the end, they just loved it and so did we!!

The acting was great and singing was on-par with that of new york.

  • Did not have that magical feel

I feel the show would be hard to follow for anyone who has not seen the movie or read the book. The amount of props are minimal and the play relies heavily on a video screen for backdrops. Brought my girlfriend here for a long over due "date night", what a bust.

It was great. The lead made the show! I would certainly recommend this to anyone.

Teenage daughter and I thorougly enjoyed this show. Don't expect fancy sets - this one is a story told through song and dance. I saw the movie, my daughter did not. I told her just the basics before. She LOVES musicals, and really enjoyed this one. Watching clips from YouTube to showher sister, who couldn't joint us.

  • Not as good as the movie

by aausterm on 4/7/13Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 3 out of 5

I thought the show was well done but just didn't like how music was added to the story. The songs didn't really seem to fit and the show had more than a few slow points. I appreciated the use of an older style of theater to help set the time and produced some really great dance numbers. In the end I am glad I saw it but don't think I would go again and wouldn't recommend to others unless there is a good deal on tickets.

  • Fun

It was a fun show. Not great or memorable, but a pleasant way to pass a couple of hours. The kid who played Frank was really good.

  • Catch me if you can was enjoyable

Good fun and entertaining, specially the first act. Unfortunately the second act was weak by comparison and therefore brought the rating down to what could have been a 4 or 5 star play. I still enjoyed the evening and would recommend this play to my friends.

  • Catch Me was mesmerizing

I was absolutely thrilled with the performance. I could hear all the performers sing clearly except for 1 song (Doctor Paging). The dancing was enchanting. Awesome show

  • Had It's Moments .....But Not Enough of Them.

Subject matter would probably work better as a purely dramatic work rather than the musical stage play as presented being that the music itself left a lot to be desired -- here I speak of the material rather than the actual performers. Staging was quite unique with the orchestra seated behind the action on stage. Dancers were in touch with each other in entreating routines but I have to wonder........what happened to those glorious tap dancers of years past? To Note: Hidden amongst the rather large cast were some impressive performers. PS: Do the balcony ushers have to shout out "NO PICTURES IN THE AUDITORIUM" ???

  • Catch Me If You Can (Chicago) was a delight

by Cartone on 4/6/13Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We came to the show with a certain curiosity about how they would pull off such a complex story-line. The first Act was delightful; leaving us wondering about the ending. The writers did a great job tying things together. The Orchestra was "right on" and the music/songs were original and well written. And what about that cast? Great Singing, Great Dancing and Great Acting!

  • An adventure packed into a musical.

by AndradeA on 4/6/13Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Followed the movie well. Not a big fan of musicals, but I liked this show. Liked that it was not a chick show given it was about Frank's life.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed "Catch Me If You Can"!

by Anonymous on 4/6/13Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing "Catch Me If You Can"! Stephen Anthony's incredible voice range, the digital backdrop, the fabulous (on stage!) musicians, and the talented (and extremely energetic) ensemble combined to make a very entertaining performance. As it was impossible to portray all of the story events on stage, it helped that we knew the story (had seen the movie numerous times).

  • Don't Catch This if You Can

by ConcernedCritic on 4/6/13Cadillac Palace - ChicagoRating: 1 out of 5

With a few exceptions, weak voices with more strained screaming than singing. A script that failed to generate audience empathy for characters with what should have been exceptional stories.
