Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer - living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end...and finds something he never expected. This delightfully entertaining musical has been created by a Tony Award®-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), a swinging score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).
A musical,.....seriously. Songs were not memorable and story line weak at best even though it followed the movie.
It was a very fast moving play a few slow spots but over all very good performances!
My wife and I really enjoyed the show. It was fast paced with great action and singing. I would recommend this play to anyone looking for a good show.
This musical did not have a very long run on Broadway but should have as it is very engaging throughout...and this tour production is terrific with a great cast. Some of the songs are great though a few are not(and don't belong with the rest of them...too rock and roll and not Bway..) Overall though a great evening. You will want to rent the film afterwards if you've never seen it. This is also a non-Equity tour but the voices are as good or better than a recent Equity tour of something else that I saw which shows you talent is talent
A genuinely spirited and "slick" production with truly talented voices throughout. Practically notable is Stephen Anthony in the lead role of Frank Abagnale who carries the show with his engaging persona and superior acting ability. He is given ample support by a very versatile cast all of whom have excellent voices and dancing ability. Combine the staging, lighting, and orchestra situated up stage, you experience a very up close and personal connection with the show. I was genuinely surprised by the extensive choreography in the production and which gives the show a gorgeous sense of color. Be prepared to be entertained by a very classy touring company which will keep you highly entertained for the duration.
Lack of scenery (they used a digital screen in the back of the stage), lack of familiar songs. Tickets went 1/2 price right after I bought mine. Fees of $18 for one ticket is outrageous. I am not going to plays for awhile. Theatre was 1/2 empty on Wed. afternoon. Lead was excellent. All actors were good. Story was ok, I read the book and saw the movie. Play was lacking. It was good, but not great like I expected. Rather rent a movie for $1 than pay $96 for the play.
This musical was very enjoyable. Though none of the songs were familiar, there were several that were quite lovely and could be memorable if heard again. The lead character, Frank, was exceptional-energetic & talented. His leading lady also had a lovely voice and I especially liked her rendition of the song "Fly" (I'm not sure if that is the title). The other song I particularly liked was the one about Home --again I don't remember the title --I don't have the playbook. I would hightly recommend this play if you want a light-hearted entertaining experience
The show marginally held my interest, it felt forced.
So much better then the movie. The young man who played Frank Jr was great. His timing was perfect. The guy who played Agent Handratty was hiliarous, just a great person to watch. The girls were fun, The guys were energentic, and the music and staging were first rate.
good music, entertaining, well acted; tight orchestra, interesting set, good costumes
Amazing life, great book, awesome movie, fantastic musical!
Wasn't sure if we would enjoy it as much as others but we thought it was right up there with Book of Mormons. Fantastic voices!
At intermission I was unimpressed with the performance and would have left, if someone in my party had been willing, for an earlier dinner. I must say that the 2nd half was much better and more entertaining. Unfortunately, overall, I can't recommend the show and wish that we had chosen another show.
As one of the few in Chicago who follows Smash, I was pleased to discover that Marc Shaiman, who writes lyrics for the TV show, wrote the lyricsfor this musical. Recently, Smash has explored whether a musical should be fluffy or thought-provoking. Catch Me If You Can is a fun musical with a few serious songs that Smash's fictional lyricist Julia would have fought to keep in the show. After the events that lead Frank to leave home and assume new identities, there is very little to explore. Although Frank claims that he's searching for a new home, he doesn't make strong connections nor does he attempt to put down roots. Consequently, the other characters have little to contribute to the telling of Frank's story. They don't know him well enough. Not even Frank's "nemesis" FBI agent Carl Hanratty can match Frank in regards to interest. Very little is revealed about his background. As a result , it's hard to root for anyone in this show. However, one must admire the energy of Stephen Anthony, who plays Frank Abagnale, Jr., he participates in much of the dancing while singing. It's quite a feat!
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN WAS WONDERFUL, EXCITING AND VERY ENTERTAINING ! THANKS TO ALL THE TALENTED PEOPLE WHO WORKED ON THIS. WE WOULD SEE IT AGAIN :-)
Cute story. Enjoyed ACT II better than ACT I. The choreography was sloppy when I saw it and the ensemble vocals did not seem that strong. Amy playing the role of "Carol Strong" stole the show for me. The man playing "Frank A" has a FIERCE belting voice in his goodbye song in ACT II. I didn't dislike the show, but I didn't love it. I wish the ensemble had more energy when I saw the show (granted I do understand it's a Sunday @ 7:30pm performance). They came out for the dance for the bows and just gave it their all with energy! It really showed and I wish they would have done that the whole show.
I saw the movie back when , and was overwhelmed with how the play handled the story. The music and singing was wonderful but a little loud at times . The dancing was amazing . The band was outstanding , I would put this play as highly recmmended .
The MUSIC is magnificent. The STORYLINE is creative, fun, and keeps you interested the entire show. The LEADING MAN is a star. Stephen Anthony is so enjoyable to watch on stage. He plays the role with such innocence and honesty. His singing is glorious and can literally hit every note on any scale. He captures the audience from the moment he is first seen on the stage. The ENSEMBLE has such a large contribution to the performance and they knocked it out of the ballpark in every scene they appeared. I enjoyed every minute of the performance and I will be there again before the tour departs from Chicago.
Had a great time watching Catch Me If You Can. It told a much better story than I expected, music was solid, singing was good and loved the dancing. Very enjoyable evening.
Very entertaining, I enjoyed the show! High-energy and fun to watch!
