Carolina Hurricanes History
The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs ten times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.
The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at PNC Arena, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.
The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

The arena has hosted several NHL Stanley Cup Playoff and Final games, including on June 19, 2006, when the Hurricanes had the home advantage and won the Stanley Cup Final in game seven, deviating the Edmonton Oilers 3-1, bringing the Hurricanes their first Stanley Cup and the first major professional sports championship for North Carolina.
In 2019, the arena hosted the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 10 years and set a single-game record with 19,495 fans in attendance. That record was further extended on May 14, 2022, when the Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 before 19,513 fans. PNC Arena welcomes more than 1.5 million guests every year.
The Carolina Hurricanes’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Hurricanes face off against the Ottawa Senators. I always enjoy Canes games - especially playoffs...just wish the outcome had been a little different.
I've been to a few Carolina Hurricanes games, and this wasn't different from any of them, except that it was playoff season. The only bad thing was that there were SO many Pittsburgh Penguins fans there, but that can't be helped. And we lost. ^_^;; Oh well. You win some, you lose some. But, it didn't take away from the game experience itself. I always recommend going to NHL games, they're fabulous. :D
Hockey is a great sport. Those who think it is lame, must be those who have only seen it on TV. You have to come to a game and see the ENTIRE event before you can really understand what athletes these guys are. And to totally get into the CANES, you and to be there for the pre game skate and you can't miss the singing of the Star Spankled Banner by that incrediable 10 year old. so as the song goes to start the 3rd period................Lets go Canes!
Overall during the playoffs, I would have to say that the Carolina Hurricanes rocked. They had all the heart, passion, and desire that makes a team go to the top of the pack. I felt sorry for them only because they did not win the cup, but I felt that they had done their best and gave it their all. At the beginning of the season, I would have never dreamed the outcome would have been going to the playoffs, but I am very proud of the effort the CANES gave at the end of the season!! Go CANES!
It was an absolutely amazing feeling to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins win the Eastern Conference Championship at my first hockey game!!! The whole experience was unforgettable!!!
Pens fan since 1973, Canes fan since Greensboro. Rooted for both.
As a first time hockey attendee, I was instantly energized by the crowd's enthusiasm. Although I am unfamiliar with the rules of the game, the fast-paced action brought me to my feet numerous times. This was such a positive experience for me, I plan to attend several games next season. I am now tuned in to hockey Carolina style!
The game was everything i expected from the CAROLINA HURRICANES Ijust wished they could have got a win at home against those pesty Penquins . It was the only playoff game i got to attend and i was hoping for a WIN. Over all as a season ticket holder i enjoyed the season play and the playoffs as well . Cant wait for next season . GO CANES!!!!!!
Awesome Venue recently voted the #2 sports ticket in all of sports by ESPN. I recommend everyone go see at least 1 Hurricanes game at the RBC Center. You'll Know When You Go!!!!!!
Awesome seeing the Pens crush the Canes in the final game of the series sweep. It was cool to see a decent presence of Pens fans in the Triangle too! The lowlight was seeing Cowher in the stands cheering for the Canes. As one fan put it, "Seeing Cowher cheeing for the Canes was like finding out your dad had another family."
The Hurricane vs. Penguins game was great at the RBC Center. The vibe & energy of the game was amazing. The music was pumping and the stands were rocking. It was cold but with all the people up & cheering it felt wonderful.
I love going to see the Hurricanes at the RBC... It is the loudest house in the NHL for a reason.
The Canes lost but the atmosphere at the RBC Center is amazing. I would never want to miss another playoff game there!
This was my first playoff game of any pro sport. Even though the Hurricanes lost, I still had a great time. Canes fans are the best and the Pittsburgh fans weren't too obnoxious, despite winning the series in our hometown. The RBC center was fantastic as usual. The only thing I didn't like is that part of the club level is closed off and you can't walk all the way around. I would also like to see more seating at restaurant-type establishments in the RBC center, you know, for the non-exclusive club attendees. i've seen this at some arenas and i like it.
Even though the outcome was not what I wanted, the game was still a great game to see. The Canes gave it their all, but simply ran out of gas from playing back-to-back tough 7 game series.
Pens dominate Canes! Win series in four games! Pens 2009 Stanley Cup Champions!!!
I think it was a great series and it is a great team to support. Some of the penguins fans were a little inappropriate with their comments/cheering. I would not bring young children to this event.
NHL Playoffs are unbelievable in person. Wish the Canes would have won, but it was a great time and great atmosphere!
I love going to the Carolina Hurricanes games, but the Stanley Cup run is even better. I bought a ticket to 2 games against the Devils, 1 against Boston and 1 against Pittsburgh. It was the best money I have spent in a long time....Way to go CANES!!!!
The overall experience of attending a NHL playoff game was awesome. Definitely would attend again. Wish the tickets weren't so expensive but the convenience of the printable ticket stub was ideal!
