We are so fortunate to have Carolina Ballet in our city -- a first-class ballet company with an eye toward intriguing, expressive, and inventive choreography. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Ariel’s mother performs like a graceful prima ballerina. Her performance outshined the lead performers. I found myself watching the orchestra with the other parts. Also, no need for an all knowing eye on the set.
I took my daughter who has been a Little Mermaid fan for as long as she has been a dancer (18 years!). We loved the originality of the music, the beautiful scenery designs, and yes, the dancing! The theatre was quite comfortable; the Lounge and its staff were welcoming; and we loved the show! Encore!
I attended this ballet because I am a long time fan of Rebecca Rebouché, who made the artwork that was behind the dancers. I'm so glad I drove the 4 hours out from Asheville. I loved every minute of it. I haven't been to a ballet in years, but I loved the dancing paired with the paintings in the background. It was all so beautiful and mesmerizing. What a good idea for Carolina Ballet to hire Rebecca.
Truly an outstanding performance all around and an impressive interpretation of familiar George Gershwin songs. Everyone in our group enjoyed the show very much. The only recommendation would be to have Ticketmaster indicate that Box 6, Seat 1 has an obstructed view. When we booked the tickets, this information would have been helpful as the dancers were out of view at times when at the very back of the stage or off to one side.
Performance overall was excellent! Costumes were very becoming. Performers were well trained and in point. Excellent value
Gershwin’s music accompanied by a ballet was extraordinarily good. The only true disappointment was that the first row seats did not leave much room to stretch the feet. The coffee was also a disappointment. The next time around we are going to have a cocktail.
WOW. The Carolina Ballet's Nutcracker was not very good at all. I grew up going to see the Nutcracker at the Boston Ballet, so I know my standards are high. But this show felt like a dance school recital, not a performance by a professional company. There really wasn't any ballet for the first 30-40 minutes! The Nutcracker prince was a kid! Clara wasn't on pointe! Mother Ginger had a big skirt, but no kids came out from or went back underneath it, that really annoyed me!! The dancers in general did not have good precision or timing. Most of the choreography was very boring. I liked the pas de deux with the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince Coqueluche, that was lovely. But geez, what a disappointment. I can't see myself going back anytime soon.
Great show! Solid venue! Great music. Solid new family tradition
