Fabulous, frivilous, fantastic. What a creative bunch of folks who have the imagination to poke fun at everyone in DC.
very funny. non stop entertainment. equal treatment of both parties - lampooned both of them! will go again - the material was amazingly current, reflecting events that had only occured within the last week or so.
This is top-drawer, up-to-the-moment, first class political satire. It doesn't get any better than this.
My third Capitol Steps concert (May 2009) was the best yet. Outrageously funny, and not sparing a sole on the Hill--Democrat or Republican. Our group of six people ranged in their level of political awareness from "I don't really know anything" to political junkie--and everyone laughed and loved it. Definitely a trip-highlight for our out-of-town guests.
Great performance, intelligent, fun, and a fantastic date!
The Captiol Steps is a very clever comedy team that delivers incisive political satire. Both parties are skewered in equal measure. The sets and singing skills are borderline amateur, but the skits themselves can approach comic genius. While politicos will find the humor most enjoyable, the shows also makes fun of popular culture. The songs are a sendup of popular tunes with a funny twist. This show is perfect for political hounds, or tourists who want to round out their tour of the nation's captial with a light, clean show about the capital's principal industry. Like most comic reviews, there are hits and misses, but the former vastly outnumber the latter. The show is in the Ronald Reagan Building in the heart of the District. Parking can seem maze-like to out of towners. The theater is not far from Old Ebbit's Grill, and my family enjoyed a pre-theater dinner at this Washington landmark. As live comedy theater goes, the Capitol Steps is relatively affordable. The comedians are predominantly former congressional staff members, and their insider view of the politics of our nation's capital is obvious. A very enjoyable show.
I've been a fan for years; the Capitol Steps always deliver. Last night, they presented the usual mix of fresh new things (e.g., their take on the Sarah Palin resignation) and updates of classics (e.g., 40lk) refurbished to reflect the latest scandals. All were delightful. Moreover, they always look to be having more fun than anyone should be allowed to have while upright and fully dressed.
I have been to the Capitol Steps a couple of times in the last few months, April and then again in June. I was disappointed in the April visit - many of the skits were outdated. There were pieces on the Clinton and Obama campaigns from last year, for example. And one on the Olympics from last summer although the skit was hilarious. By June the campaign ones were gone and had been replaced with fresher material.
Funny from beginning to end. Very current. Love to go when I'm in the DC area. I would give it a 5, but the new Pres character is not quite there yet.
I have only visited DC twice. My youngest son now works there, so he shows me the town when I get to come. On my very first trip he took me to see Capitol Steps. On my second trip, I requested a trip back! There are so many wonderful sights to see in DC, but Capitol Steps is such a fun entertaining event I put it at the top of my "must do" list!
Having seen them before I was not surprised by how creative they can be. However, most of the numbers were old material and most of the new lyrics were to old songs. I'd recommend highly to those who have never seen or heard them before. I was in DC for meetings and took several Capitol Step "newby" friends who enjoyed them immensely.
This was a terrific show, a must for any visitor to our nation's capitol.
Overall very good. The spoof on Octomom fell short of this groups' usual high standard of performance. Octomom offers a lot for the show to work with, but the dropping of the 8th baby was tacky. The Palin resignation aired at 4 PM and was in the skit at the 7:30 PM show. We have seen this group perform before and really enjoy it! Recommend.
The show was spectacular! It was wonderful to meet the cast after the show and get autographs. The music and satire was phenominal. GREAT SHOW!
The Capitol Steps are provocative, relevant and hilarious. Their performance was well worth the price of admission.
Friday night's show took aim at both parties, various socio-political challenges as well as foriegn leaders. None were spared except by the time as the show had to end. I did not stop laughing and appreciated the wit, the creativity and insight of the troupe.
loved the show. Over the top funny. They were able ot do a bit based on the news of the day.
Excellent Show - many strong musical numbers with decent singing and a great accompianist. Cutting edge humor that cuts both ways, both liberal and conservative. Up-to-the-minute topics and highly recommended.
Skit after sidesplitting skit. Creative, inventive, and witty. A delightful way to spend an evening. Entertaining for family and friends of all ages. Just as good as when I first saw them in 1992.
