Disappointing Experience
by SW on 6/14/23Merriweather Post Pavilion - ColumbiaJazzfest 2023 was a little disappointing. This is our first year back to the the Jazzfest since the Pandemic and I'm glad to see that they took steps to rectify the mudpits by adding mulch and asphalt; however, it was disappointing how the talent lineup was set up. Theneed to schedule the performances to where one artist finshes on one stage before the next artist begins on the next stage, so Jazzfest goers can experience the full performances of all artists. The place is usually full of concert goers so it's not easy to move from one location to the other to see all performances. They would cut from the Symphony Woods stage to the Main Pavilion stage while the performance on the Symphony Woods stage was still going on. It was also somewhat disrespectful to The Isley Brothers to have them performing on the Symphony Woods stage and then in the middle of their performance, cut the sound and video to the Pavilion stage where Incognito was performing. Same goes for George Benson, someone of his years of musical talent should not have been cut over in the middle of his performance. There were so many people who tried to pack in at the Symphony Woods stage just to hear/see The Isley Brothers, because the video and sound cut to the Main Stage that it was impossible to enjoy, AND the sound from the Main stage made it impossible to hear The Isley Brothers. This year's Jazzfest only had a handful of great performers, where in previous years the lineup was much better. On a positive note, the event staff were some of the most friendly, helpful and accommodating people we've experienced.
