CABARET’s famed ‘Kit Kat Club’ is returning to Sydney for a strictly limited season! A new Australian revival of one of the world’s most beloved musicals, experience the decadence of CABARET at Hayes Theatre Co from 9 January 2017.
Starring the mesmerising Paul Capsis as Emcee; the leading lady of musical theatre Chelsea Gibb as Sally Bowles and the incredible Marcus Graham as Ernst Ludwig, CABARET’s much loved songs and piercing message will ensure a wonderful and meaningful night out at the theatre.
With the brilliant Kate Fitzpatrick as Fräulein Schneider, the eminent John O’May as Herr Schultz and the popular Debora Krizak as Fräulein Kost, the talented cast also includes Jason Kos as Clifford Bradshaw, Michelle Barr as Fritzi, Nick Jones as Victor, Matthew Manahan as Gottfried and Michelle Smitheram as Helga.
Winner of 12 Tony Awards, 8 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTA’s, CABARET wows audiences and critics alike time and time again. Fifty years ago the original Broadway production made a household name of Joel Grey while just two years later an unassuming Judi Dench stole the show on London’s West End. Arguably the most iconic movie musical of all time, renowned director Bob Fosse made Liza Minnelli a silver screen star.
Based on The Berlin Stories by renowned author Christopher Isherwood, CABARET celebrates the sexual freedom and social liberation of 1930s Berlin. CABARET, adapted into musical form by Kander and Ebb, became Isherwood’s semi-biographical portrait of life on the edge.
Everything about Cabaret was wonderful - the singing, dancing, acting, costumes!!!
Excellent cast Easy to follow story The scenery was perfect for a small stage.
Set was excellent - Liked Orchestra onstage - Particularly enjoyed the dancing - Appreciated the Director's Notes for those who need a better understanding of the time in which Cabaret is set
Not a dull moment. The casting was perfect. I loved the music. This is the best Cabaret I've seen.
It has been a long time since I have seen anything on stage. This was an excellent show to see. I would recommend this to anyone. Sally Bowles character was excellent, showing all emotions for every part of the show.
Didn't enjoy the homosexual scenes. The cast members did a tremendous job acting, especially the older couple.
The coordination between the dancing, singing and the orchestra were breathtaking, It seemed they were always in sync. It was very intense and realistic of that time.
The EmCee was fantastic! The second half in general was outstanding!
Unbelievable voices among the leads. Herr Schulz & Frau Schneider were totally into their parts. Never enjoyed those scenes until NOW! The Emcee....wow - he really turned it on. "Two Ladies" - best naughty version -EVER! Nice tap number as well. My only regret...Nazis were not menacing enough. In past versions I've seen, the Nazi threat sent chills through me. Would like that part to be more painful (I'm a history major).
Drury Lane's production of Cabaret was on a par with any downtown Chicago production. The set was amazing, the costumes were a colorful reflection of the times, and the performers were top-notch. The cast created a believable atmosphere that ran the gamut between humor and pathos. The contrast of the tragic times in the real world and the events within the Kit Kat Club were masterfully portrayed taking the audience on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Kander and Ebb's score is thoughtful as well as thought provoking.
The current company of 'Cabaret' is outstanding and the sets, music, and performances are not to be missed. My partner and I were absolutely enthralled by the characterizations and the music was excellently sung and played. The KitKat Club was a masterpiece in design and our attention never lagged. Drury Lane should win accolades for this production. I realize I sound over the top in my review, but we sincerely felt that our afternoon at Drury Lane al least equaled time spent at any national touring company presentation. The cast members were all memorable. The emcee was so versatile, seemingly innocent, but representing such evil. As we experience polarizing times today, this show gave us pause to consider what can happen when we accept less than the best from ourselves.
Cabaret was a great show. I have seen alot of the plays at Drury Lane and this was one of the best. I would recommend this to any adult, young or old. May not be a good show to take young people to.
Broadway-quality staging. The best production I've ever seen at Drury Lane.
Such a terrific production. Acting! Staging! Music! All transparent and artful. Within minutes of the performance there was no distraction from characters. We cared about these people. The haunting evolution of the Nazi experience proceeded from the subtle to the obvious. Masterful. Having known this work in its various incarnations, this production was the most compelling and had stylistic and historical integrity. I cannot say enough good things. I cannot think of a "downside" to the experience.
The production of Cabaret was every bit as good as any musical theater production we have seen in downtown Chicago in recent years. The staging, costumes, and especially the talent did not disappoint. Yet the reasonable ticket prices and ease of parking make a night at Drury Lane hassle-free. Especially if you are a suburbanite, you can't miss by taking advantage of professional theater in Oak Brook.
Not enough words to describe the amazing performance of Zarah Mahler as Sally, a complete musical actress. The nuances of Patrick Andrews as the MCwere riveting. The entire production--cast, staging, choreograhy, musical arrangement, costumes, lighting--made for one of the best professional productions I have seen.
I have been to over 50 shows this year in the Chicago area and this was one of the most enjoyable. The set was interesting, the lighting fabulous, costumes great, and the actors wonderful with strong dancing and singing. I would hightly recommend it. Drury Lane Oakbrook is getting better and better!! Doug Peck is great. Even my seats, acquired late, were excellent!!! Keep up the excellent productions
Performances were excellent. Staging and direction were very creative and put a fresh face on a familiar, beloved and legendary musical.
Excellent show but the dinner left a lot to be desired. If you go, dine in one of the nearby restaurants. Set was great but not memorable, cast was spectacular as well as the orchestra. Well worth the price of admission.
The costumes and dancing were spectacular. The actors really impressed me with their ability to make the characters take on a life of their own. The part that most dissapointed me was that the plot was confusing. There was some confusion as to who was the master of ceremonies and Max because they were played by the same person.
