Buffalo Sabres History

The Sabres joined the NHL in the 1970 expansion, and just two years later embarked on a streak that saw them reach the playoffs in 12 of the next 13 seasons. Leading the way were "The French Connection" line of Hall of Fame center Gilbert Perreault, left-wing Rick Martin, and right-wing René Robert. The Quebec-born trio was together in Buffalo from 1972 through 1979. Aided by Craig Ramsay, the Sabres and their French Connection advanced to the 1975 Stanley Cup Final in  their fifth season, though they fell in six games to the Philadelphia Flyers.

In the following 10 seasons, all of which resulted in playoff berths, the Sabres captured two division titles. Fueled by defenseman (and former U.S. Olympic star) Mike Ramsey, the Sabres made nine playoff appearances between the 1981–1982 and 1991–1992 seasons. Later, during goaltender Dominik Hasek's nine seasons, the Sabres continued to be a consistent playoff team. In 1999, they dispatched the Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs to again reach the Stanley Cup Finals, where they fell to the Dallas Stars in six games.

In 2006 and 2007 the Sabres made it as far as the conference finals before succumbing to the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, respectively. To date, the Sabres have been in the playoffs 29 times, winning six divisional championships and three conference titles.

    Overpriced Experience

by JS on 12/13/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

1 lower bowl ticket = $159 (inc tax and fees) Parking = $15 1 labatts blue light beer (can) = $14.25 $190 for one person!! Between Covid restrictions, a garbage team and an overall overpriced experience it was no wonder why there was barely 8700 people attending a friday night game!

    Worst Marketing Team

    by mnr601 on 11/28/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

They jumbotron skits with the players were unenthusiastic and obviously humiliating for them. Then went to restroom and ushers pulled curtains and wouldn't let us back to our seat because mascot was throwing tshirts. Said they didn't want him bothered by kids. Ummm what about the dozen adults who were there to watch game. Sabres your staff is forgetting the importance of the game

    Great Time!

by Wes F on 11/26/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Passing through Buffalo and stopped to watch the Sabres and Blue Jackets play last Monday. Entertaining game, reasonably priced tickets and beautiful arena. Had a great time! Sad to see only 8000 fans in attendance. The Sabres have some good young talent and will be a force in the NHL in a couple of years. Hopefully the fans will start supporting the team more.

    Arena is falling apart

by Nate on 11/25/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

The game was good, but the seats we were in were broken. The bottoms were missing the screws and there were no arm rests exposing the sharp metal. These were expensive glass seats. Unacceptable for the price I paid, in my opinion.

    food needs a reworking

by disappointed fan on 11/21/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Nerd Gone Wild played in the arena making it fun. Main issue i had was all the food prices were insane and what we got was stale or so bad we couldnt eat it. I will not be taking my kids to another game as i cannot afford all that money for garbage food.

Easy, quick entrance. Good seats. Sabres win. Concessions expensive. Drop them prices at least till they make playoffs.

by Captainluis on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Everything worked out O.K.. No Problems. Needed a bus after 9 P.M. back to Rochester, N.Y.. Hopefully that will change by the time the Leaf's return to Buffalo.

    Sonicness

by Pnina on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Somewhere in the bowels of KBC, there's a factotum DJ who reflexively thinks the louder, the better, because--you know, isn't it? I and my bestie went to game to see McDavid. Arena was half-empty. Game was acceptable--typical NHL: not enough talent or ice space to let game be captivating. But experience ruined by thundering rain of noise from arena sound system. No moment of silence was permissible. After all, you must pound sensory systems of attendees into submission, right? lest those persons realize that his/her money of $100+ per ticket was not requited by the product on the ice. Go ahead, pump up the music, cause I won't be back.

    Sabres-Leafs Game of 11–13-2022

by Shafrika on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Great game and timing. My husband and I had dinner at one of the Key Bank Center concessions, and we made it to our seats in time for the anthems and the start of the game. The 3rd period was a nail biter with the game tied at 4-4. The the Toronto Maple Leafs ended up winning the game with a final score of 5-4 after scoring an additional goal within the last few minutes of the game. All in all, a great night out! For the future games, I still say "go Sabres!"

    Decent hockey. Entertainment value... questionable

    by BSFan20 on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Game was reasonably entertaining. The team still has quite a way to go, but at least they compete hard.. The officiating was beyond bad but once the refs stopped inserting themselves unnecessarily, there was some good action. Concessions were brutal, actually inedible and it felt like everything was being done on the cheap in the arena. Between period entertainment was actually laughable... a sub-par cover band. I actually felt bad for them. The organist was good however.

    Great Experience

by TheyCallMeDrJ on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

We were lucky to have great seats. The experience from security to ushers to concessions were really good. The entertainers were good, it's too bad the arena was not at capacity. I'm sure the venue would've been rocking. Thanks Buffalo.

    Great service

by Doug on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

The event staff from the parking lot attendant to the ticket takers and ushers were incredibly friendly and helpful. My wife is confined to a scooter and they made her visit extra enjoyable… even though we were wearing our Leaf jerseys.

    Maple Leafs didnt disapoint

by Liz on 11/16/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

The event itself was memorable. However, putting barcodes on the tickets that are mailed out would make things easier for those who don't do electronic tickets.

Pay attention to details about covid

by Waterproofer on 11/9/21KeyBank Center - Buffalo

We traveled from Michigan through Canada took it to Buffalo to watch the Sabres and the Red Wings. What we weren’t prepared for was the stadium required vaccination records. Almost ruined our trip

by BoBender on 9/19/19Pegula Ice Arena - University Park

I'm not a big hockey fan but it was great the NHL came to Hockey Valley. It was fun to watch a pro game in a small atmosphere.

Penguins Sabres Event at Pegula arena

by Carol on 9/19/19Pegula Ice Arena - University Park

Tickets through ticketmaster was a breeze. Parked right at event through Parkmobile. Event staff and especially guest services staff were professional, respectful and courteous. Needed to change to handicap seating and process went fine. Event site was clean and most enjoyable. Cant wait to go back.
