Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

Bills Practice was nice family affair.

by BuckeyeDon on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Site at John Fisher was well orgainized and good spectator viewing. Bills ran a lot of plays to keep things interesting. Bus parking lots were too far away from St. John Fisher. Getting to practice was too slow in traffic and lines were too long. Need to move parking back to Nazareth or East Rochester High.

    Buffalo Bills Night Practice

by JaniceBillsFan on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

The part of training camp that we got to experience was excellent when we finally got there. The problem was that we didn't get to the camp until about 7:30. We started from our home in Penfield a little before 6:00 pm. Training camp is only a 15 min drive from our home. The problem is the remote parking lots and shuttle buses. There are no parking lots on the north, east or west sides of the training camp. The only lots are to the south of St. John Fisher. We went to the lot at Pittsford Sutherland School. Because it was the closest lot from Penfield. It seems like that's where most of the people went.. There was a very long line waiting for the buses and it seemed like they had only 2 busses running at a time. We waited for a very long time to get on the shuttle bus instead of being at training camp. Also, for the 2nd year they are using school buses. These buses don't hold as many people as the RTS buses. They also don't acomodate handicapped people. If they had the RTS buses there wouldn't have been as long a wait. They finally called for extra buses but that was after we waited for a long time. I have been going to training camp and night practices since the beginning of camp at St. John Fisher. This was the first time we have ever had to wait so long to get to camp on the shuttle buses. I think it was very poor planning hopefully they will be more prepared for the next night practice.

    too many people

by hockeyguy1056 on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

they allowed to many people in that there was no room for everyone so if you wernt there at 5 when the gates opened you were screwed. also i arrived and got there at 6 but after the 5 mile detour in gridlock traffic to a high school where they where shuttleing people to the stadium it was 7 15. even though there was plenty of parking avaliable on campus they wouldnt let anyone park there.

    Bills First Night Practice

by Jates on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Always love attending these every year. I was disappointed with the way the autographs were handled. I like the previous years of the team lining up along the fence before practice starts. I think this gives the fans a better opportunity of getting their favorite players autograph. Not the "hit and miss" method where you dont have any idea where the player is going to be. My son was disappointed. He was looking forward to the other night practices, but now could care less. Please change it back.

    Amazing look at the Bills

by GertF on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Such a great way to get close to your team if you are a Bills supporter. Under the lights made it more like a game day than practice. Just seeing all they go through to get ready for their season is amazing and such a trill to be so close up and personal. Getting the tickets on line is the best, fairest and easiest way for all.

Been a Bill's Fan for 50 years and NO AUTOGRAPHS!

by Rytron on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

I've been a Bill's Fan for 50 years, supported them through good and bad times and yet they were not able to sign autographs! Very disappointing to me, my kids and the fans.

    Bills Night Training Camp 7-28

by Cashman on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

It was fun but the 1/2 hour wait for the bus to take us there made us miss the beginning of the practice.

    Bills Nite Practice

by BuffaloChip81 on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Very exciting to watch them go in pads; lots of action, and TO was special. However, the Bills made too many tickets available for this event. It was too crowded.

    Buffalo Bills night practice

by kissapoo1 on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Crowd control excellent ! Crowd seemed very pleased with being able to see a NFL team in uniform & presenting a good practice ! ONE BIG DOWN SIDE _ auotograph tent closed ! this is important to kids who arn`t big enough to get an auotograph along the stadium because of adults who won`t let little kids have a place to get the signature from players , shame on the adults!!

    Enjoyable

by MMsTrip on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

It was nice enjoyable family night out for price. Everyone enjoyed the freebees, especially the snack section. Going in we knew it would be packed and trying to find seating was a little hard to locate but able to locate. The company around us was nice, we are all they doing the same thing and easy to see the practice when sitting in the stands. But the best part of the evening was when on our way out to catch the bus, young kids were handed free t-shirts. It was another nice bonus. By the end of the night my 5 year was stating she is now a Bills Fan. :-)

    Buffalo Bills Night Practice

by rushfan4ever on 7/29/09St. John Fisher College - Rochester

Overal experience was positive. LOTS of people turned out to see Terrell Owens. If you got there late you had to stand...............many were standing. One of those events where one time is enough............they're pretty mundane even for a huge fan.
