Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

    Could have been better

    by Jaybol81 on 8/7/23

The overall experience of the practice was good. I feel it should be later if it's on a Friday to let fans get there if they have to work. With the roadwork being done, many fans only got to see half of it or even less. I understand that that is not the responsibility of the team, but they could help alleviate some of these issues.

it was okay, i wouldn't come again

    by 1st timer on 8/7/23

As a first timer, I wasn't impressed at all. I think it could have been organized better with signs or people helping with questions. For example "defense is here from 10-10:30, we had to see them playing off to the side to know to walk over there. I guess you line up along a fence for the players that "may come out"for pics and to sign things. How would you know this as a first timer? Which players are coming out? Just alot of walking around to with no direction. No time on when things would happen. It appeared no plan. thats alot of fans walking around with no idea of whats happening "just following the person ahead of them"

Good way to spend the morning

    by Moderate fan on 8/6/23

Well, it was crowded. Getting there early was a good idea. The actual event was fun and watching the fans was equally enjoyable. They were really into the Bills and it was a very positive experience for young and old alike. The Bills opening training camp to the public is a great idea.

    Return of red and blue

    by Sportzofsortz on 8/5/23

It is a great event to have and with it being general admission it is sometimes chaotic. People push and crowd others to try to get to the front. I love that we can participate in this but maybe utilize security in each aisle that has an entrance to the field. With the mayhem of the night I would not object to even paying $5 or $10 to attend the event

    by Sportzofsortz on 8/4/23

Training camp has always been a great experience for kids who may never get to a game, but since the whole field is mostly vip tents it is disappointing.i understand bop are important, why can't you still make space for the rest of us

    Fans don't matter

    by Lucy on 8/3/23

After attending the Buffalo Bills camp this year I was disappointed to see the changes that had occurred since I last attended. There are less activities for the children; there used to be more freebies; more interaction with the players (autographs, kidding around, etc); and the ability to get closer to the fields without being a "VIP". It saddens me that the camp is now more focused on the businesses and VIP status than on the average fan. Many of the areas close to the field are now unaccessible to the average fan, there are security guards saying "no photos, no videos". My husband encountered one security/volunteer who kept telling everyone to stop taking videos when all they were trying to do was take photos. He was hyper focused on someone "stealing plays". I loved when the camp was more open to all and provided opportunities for children to throw footballs and move through blow-up activities. I was more casual and family oriented. Now it seems more focused on making money and honoring businesses.

    Good day-room for improvement

    by Bills Backer on 8/3/23

It was great to see players in person that I have only seen on TV before! A change I would recommend would be to have more bleachers or reduce the number of spectators. There should be a seat for each ticket holder. There needs to be an organized way to get autographs and pictures with the players. It was a fun day, but with these improvements, it could be even better.

Good time, like to see that everyone is all about the kids.

    by Jaci on 8/3/23

Easy to get to. Set up for kids, but there were adults standing at the fence , so we couldn’t see much of the field. Even with signs at the fence. Other than that it was a good experience and I will definitely go again next year.

    sad grandma

    by gamer on 8/2/23

I bought the (expensive) tickets for my grandson and I for his 13th birthday. He has been a Bills fan since he could walk & talk. We waited in line for quite some time to purchase a football in hopes of getting it signed before we weere told the power was out all over the campus. No big deal because he brought one of his many jersey's and could have that signed. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We had to walk quite a distance to go to the bathroom since they closed the one near the entrance. (Why???) I wish I had bought him the $250 sneakers he wanted instead.

    Restrooms

    by GoBills! on 8/2/23

There were not enough restrooms at training camp. The line extended from the visitor side of the practice field to the home side. Wait times made people miss out on watching the action.

Had a very good time just wish they would bring back the big store with AC. Just so we could take a short break from the heat.
