About

Buena Vista Social Club is a new Broadway musical based on the Cuban musical ensemble of the same name. Inspired by true events, the new musical brings the group’s Grammy-winning self-titled 1997 album to life and transports audiences to Old Havana, where a woman named Omara leaves a steady gig at the Tropicana to discover the music that will change her life forever. With development and direction by Saheem Ali, Buena Vista Social Club begins performances in late February 2025 at the Schoenfeld Theatre.

  • It was breathtaking, we came back a second time

    by Yessi B on 8/2/25Rating: 5 out of 5

Wow, I can’t decide what was better: the musicians, the dancers or the singers! We paid another $350 and watched it a second time!!! I noticed the dancers were all in the remake of West Side Story! Their skills were out of this world!! Inspiring as a dancer! Run to go see it!!

  • A Stunning Show That Forgets to Dance Cuban

by Nico Rojas on 7/26/25Rating: 3 out of 5

The production dazzles—not just with its story, comedy, and performances—but with a stunning integration of lighting, projections, and stage automation. It’s a bold demonstration that a mid-size theater can deliver visual and technical brilliance on par with Broadway’s most iconic shows. But… (Almost) no Cuban dancing. If you're hoping to see Son Cubano, Cuban Cha Cha Chá, or Rumba Cubana, I suggest looking them up on YouTube—because they’re nearly absent here. The dancers are phenomenal, no doubt—executing breathtaking movements inspired by Alvin Ailey, ballet, and acrobatics. But in doing so, Cuba’s distinctive dance traditions quietly fall through the cracks. And on a Broadway stage celebrating Cuban music, that absence is hard to ignore.

  • Incredible story NO Cuban dancing

by Nico Rojas on 7/26/25Rating: 3 out of 5

This is a definitely a fun and interesting musical to watch. The musical's visual storytelling is fascinating. A masterclass in Cuban music. They beautifully fragment pieces of Cuban history by blending comedy and sadness. ⭐BUT ⭐ the choreography is sadly (almost) not Cuban dancing. Go to YouTube look for Son Cubano, Cha Cha Cha or Rumba Cubana and you will most seen none of that. Dancing looks likes Alvin Ailey's (incredible) choreographies but do not reflect how Cuban dance. No tornillo, no paseo, no exhibela move, no basic Son step. Jumps and Ballet turn patterns. It's sad that this crucial piece of Cuban culture falls through the cracks and makes all these incredible dancers look as if they where doing ballet and a little bit of ballroom.

  • A Play to Remember

by Ridgefield Cubana on 7/20/25Rating: 5 out of 5

I had an amazing time at the Buena Vista Social Club performance! The music, dance, and performers were absolutely on point, creating an electric atmosphere that kept everyone engaged. I found myself wanting to get up and join in during the band performances! I can't wait to return with my Cuban dad; it will be a nostalgic experience for both of us. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a vibrant and unforgettable night!
