BRUNO MARS IN CONCERT
Classic showmanship in the vein of James Brown and Michael Jackson is alive and well, and Bruno Mars is here to prove it. Mars takes the stage with The Hooligans, a tightly choreographed nine-piece soul band that serves as the perfect representation of his commitment to the live experience – a commitment that led to his selection as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII. A classic song-and-dance man and multi-platinum selling pop star, Mars references everyone from Prince to The Police in both his image and sound, but the result is more than mere imitation; as a songwriter and producer, he has successfully combined the sounds of his pop idols with reggae and hip hop to create a new generation of genre-crossing hits. In anticipation of his Super Bowl performance, fans can get tickets to catch Bruno Mars in concert on 2013’s Moonshine Jungle Tour.
BRUNO MARS BACKGROUND
Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he gained his first exposure to music playing rock and Motown covers in his family’s band, The Love Notes. By age five, the Elvis Presley impersonations he performed with the band had gained him a reputation on the island and landed him a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. After high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, finding initial success as a member of The Smeezingtons, the writing and production team behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Right Round.” His first success as a solo artist came in 2010 with “Nothing On You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B. that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the duo several Grammy nominations. Mars’ debut album, 2010’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and contained two worldwide No. 1 hits with “Grenade” and feel-good ballad “Just The Way You Are,” which nabbed him his first Grammy (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance). Sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the ubiquitous hits “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man.”

Bruno Mars performs great live and really works the crowd!
The show was upbeat and energetic, and I found it really fun. My only complaint was that it didn't get to the headliners for a long time, and Janelle Monae's set was too long. I didn't get home until midnight--I would have preferred everything be moved up an hour.
Janelle Monae saved the night. Bruno Mars was running late and although Janelle was on stage for 2 hours- she rocked the house. Once Bruno Mars got to the stage the crowd was electrified. Amazing performance, though towards the end a lot of people were leaving, as it was a Sunday night- in comedic style Bruno Mars called those people out and dedicated a song to them- then after the show ended more people left- but Bruno came back onto the stage and sang one last song for the crowd who stuck around- the best part was those of us with seats in the back were allowed to get up closer to the stage. His performance was amazing and his grace (at being late, and being appreciative of the audience) as well as his fellow band members were second to none. Great show well worth 4 hours of pure entertainment!
Both of them are great entertainers. Will definately see them again.
Excellent show! Bruno Mars is such an exciting performer who knows how to work the audience and get people dancing!
he was so nice to all his fans and sang amazing. true talent. opening acts were funny and good too but Bruno was the best.
Bruno Mars was absolutely unbelievable. He engaged the crowd and played all the songs the audience wanted to hear. Janelle Monae was also a great singer with an incredible voice, but she is not as well-known so the audience didn't seem as engaged. The first opening act, Plan B, was awful and a pain to my ears.
Perfect! Amazing show! Bruno Mars is extremely talented!
We had an unbelievable time during Bruno Mars performance. His vocals were crystal clear and his band was outstanding. The only problem with the show was getting there. We tried to give Ms. Monae a chance. Her voice is fabulous and she can obviously sing with the best of them. But the musical style she brought to the stage was some sort of Art-Pop, impressionist - something. Not a great fit for Bruno Mars fans.
I am a 52 year lady you loved the Bruno Mars part of the concert. It was amazing and well worth the wait! I did not know the other singer at all, but did like some of her songs.
I think Bruno Mars was unbelievable in concert. He is excellent in performing and getting the audience involved. Not to mention he is incredibly hot. Also, as a broke college student, the price of the ticket wasnt bad. He deserves all the credit in the world for the amazing show he put on. I couldnt say the same for Janelle Monae. I felt like her show was like watching a really bad scary movie. If you happened to be tripping on anything, that show would mess you up with her people dressed up funny and backgrounds that could make you throw up. I wish there was a better act that went along with Bruno Mars becasue his show was amazing.
This concert was just plain awesome from beginning to end. The opening act of that beat-boxer was way cool. He blew my mind. I wanna know what his name is. Then Plan B was good too... not my favorite because his style isn't what I listen to but he was good. THEN Janelle Monae, she has converted me. I never listened to her before but she was great. She is like the female James Brown. She busted out some moves that were cool.. Only criticism I have is that she should have been on stage longer. BRUNO MARS omg I love him. I still need to find that song that he first wrote. It was beautiful, it should have been on his album. Speaking of albums I think he should come out with another one soon. They order that he played his songs was great and it flowed soo well. There is only 2 things that I feel that he should have done and they are that he should have played talking to the moon and performed longer. I want a copy of the show. I loved it.
Didn't really care for Janelle Monae but Bruno Mars was awesome!
Took my teenage daughter and two of her friends to see Bruno Mars on Mother's Day. Concert was fantastic. Bruno Mars is very talented. Can hardly wait until he does more music!
Janelle Monae was disappointing, but Bruno Mars was astonishingly great. The difference seemed to be that Monae made music for herself and was absorbed in her own world while performing, while Mars was a true crowed pleaser and a genuine showman. I had not realized how much I love his music until I saw him perform it live. As for Monae... I walked away confused, which is sad because she was the reason we bought the tickets. The arena was modern, large and carried sound well. The crowed was a diverse mix of ages and backgrounds and enthusiastic. They stood up during Monae's performance and tightrope and continued on their feet throughout Bruno Mars' full set.
My husband and I took our two children (Bruno Mars fans;) to see the show at Boston University. The show opened with two very bad acts-one English band and Janelle Monae...both acts had to be broken down and the next act set up too--which took a long time! Both acts also lost the crowd, which seemed more annoyed with them than anything. Bruno Mars did not come on until quarter past ten! He was great but had a very short show. We missed the last song, and any encore, because we wanted to leave before being stuck in a huge crowd! It was already extremely late! He was worth the money but, if you are not a fan of obnoxious music, skip the two first acts.!!
Janelle Monae was horrendous- the sound quality was poor, and there was a lot of screeching. Her music was not enjoyable! Bruno Mars was amazing though! I wish he had performed for longer, and Janelle would have only done a couple songs. Most people came to the show to see Bruno Mars, but he and Janelle performed for equal amounts of time!
The show started late and the music was loud to the point where my ears were ringing, but the Bruno Mar's event was very much worth it.
An amazing show! Great performers! Very interactive with the audience.
Bruno Mars was fantastic. Jenelle was just god awful and nothing but noise, rambling, and bizzarity.
