BRUNO MARS IN CONCERT

Classic showmanship in the vein of James Brown and Michael Jackson is alive and well, and Bruno Mars is here to prove it. Mars takes the stage with The Hooligans, a tightly choreographed nine-piece soul band that serves as the perfect representation of his commitment to the live experience – a commitment that led to his selection as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII. A classic song-and-dance man and multi-platinum selling pop star, Mars references everyone from Prince to The Police in both his image and sound, but the result is more than mere imitation; as a songwriter and producer, he has successfully combined the sounds of his pop idols with reggae and hip hop to create a new generation of genre-crossing hits. In anticipation of his Super Bowl performance, fans can get tickets to catch Bruno Mars in concert on 2013’s Moonshine Jungle Tour.

BRUNO MARS BACKGROUND

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he gained his first exposure to music playing rock and Motown covers in his family’s band, The Love Notes. By age five, the Elvis Presley impersonations he performed with the band had gained him a reputation on the island and landed him a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. After high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, finding initial success as a member of The Smeezingtons, the writing and production team behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit “Right Round.” His first success as a solo artist came in 2010 with “Nothing On You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B. that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the duo several Grammy nominations. Mars’ debut album, 2010’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and contained two worldwide No. 1  hits with “Grenade” and feel-good ballad “Just The Way You Are,” which nabbed him his first Grammy (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance). Sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 1  on the Billboard 200 and spawning the ubiquitous hits “Locked Out of Heaven” and “When I Was Your Man.”

SHE WAS AMAZING, unfortunately the guys behind the deck weren't, so the music was a noise, not a music, but I LOVE THIS CRAZY!!!!! I WANNA SEE YOU AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. Mars. Favourite of teens, but I'm not a teen anymore, otherwise that wasn't bad.

  • I've got the Mars SARS!

by KellyDrums on 5/12/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Bruno Mars is an incredible musician and he really portrayed that in his performance at the Fox Theatre. His charismatic self paired with his brilliant takes on each of his songs had te audience swooning for more. Him and his frontman Phillip Lawrence not only performed flawlessly but their high enthusiasm as well kept the audience engaged and energized. I would pay the same money to go see him again anytime. The beautiful venue paired with his beautiful music created a tasteful night for me.

  • True artists at WORK!

by Marsbound on 5/12/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The Fox Theatre in Atlanta was rockin! Janelle Monae and her peeps turned the house ON! Her lead guitarist, Kellindo Parker is a true talent; has a gift for guitar... the energy never ran out! Bruno Mars is SUPER SUAVE!!! His passion and grace left me speechless and I couldn't stop moving!!! His voice is AMAZING to hear LIVE! I thought they gave the tickets AWAY!!! (less than $50.00 for this show!?) I would've paid much more to see them! I hope they tour together again... I am there!

  • Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae

by LiveMusicGal on 5/12/11Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Bruno Mars was EXCELLENT. I love the fact that he is not about the spectacle, but more about the music. His voice was wonderful and I really enjoyed his show. Janelle Monae --- in my opinion was horrible. First, the music was so unbelievably loud you couldn't even understand what she was saying. Second, unlike Bruno Mars - she was about putting on some sort of theatric event. Which didn't make sense because you couldn't understand the words she was saying. Black cloaks and people laying on the floor ---- it was all just silly. I actually got up and left the theater. Primarily because the music was piercing and actually hurt my ears, but not far behind --- was I got ZERO entertainment out it. I got more entertainment by sitting in the lobby and watching people. That's pretty sad.

This concert was an absolute blast. I am so happy that this was my first ever real concert in Atlanta. I just wish it was on a weekend because I was so tired at work the next day,

Blown away. Had seen Janelle before, so I was aware of what she was capable of. Bruno, though, was excellent. I'll see him every time he comes here, if i can.

Really fun show, great seats. A lot of little girls there, but I'm pretty sure I screamed louder than them.

by jodyf on 5/11/11Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Very long show- Bruno Mars did not start until 10:30. Janelle Monae was ok- accoustics for her set were not that great. She is a good performer, though. Bruno Mars was great.

  • amazingly awesome

by GodSSs on 5/11/11Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

this show was totally awesome. the price on the tickets was definitly fair for the show. you definitly get your moneys worth. parking was ehhh.... pricey but if you get there early and find street parking than that ould be better. Janelle was an "interesting" performance. but worth seeing. I probably wouldn't go if it was just her though. just not exactly my style. and she was a little hard to understan. the opening act was awesome too. but to see Bruno come out....... amazing !!! he has such a positive energy. When he comes back I can definitly say I will be going again !! And he's all about the fans to which is great. Just a word of advice..... don't leave before it's truly over !! Be a real FAN !!!

  • Amazing

    by stephrw88 on 5/11/11Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Bruno Mars was amazing, so professional, true musician. Janelle could have sounded better, I think it was the sound people's fault, you can tell she would have been good otherwise.

  • Awesome Show
