Classic showmanship in the vein of James Brown and Michael Jackson is alive and well, and Bruno Mars is here to prove it. Mars takes the stage with The Hooligans, a tightly choreographed nine-piece soul band that serves as the perfect representation of his commitment to the live experience – a commitment that led to his selection as the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVIII. A classic song-and-dance man and multi-platinum selling pop star, Mars references everyone from Prince to The Police in both his image and sound, but the result is more than mere imitation; as a songwriter and producer, he has successfully combined the sounds of his pop idols with reggae and hip hop to create a new generation of genre-crossing hits. In anticipation of his Super Bowl performance, fans can get tickets to catch Bruno Mars in concert on 2013’s Moonshine Jungle Tour.

BRUNO MARS BACKGROUND

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he gained his first exposure to music playing rock and Motown covers in his family’s band, The Love Notes. By age five, the Elvis Presley impersonations he performed with the band had gained him a reputation on the island and landed him a cameo in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. After high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, finding initial success as a member of The Smeezingtons, the writing and production team behind Flo Rida’s 2009 hit β€œRight Round.” His first success as a solo artist came in 2010 with β€œNothing On You,” a collaboration with rapper B.o.B. that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the duo several Grammy nominations. Mars’ debut album, 2010’s Doo-Wops & Hooligans, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and contained two worldwide No. 1 Β hits with β€œGrenade” and feel-good ballad β€œJust The Way You Are,” which nabbed him his first Grammy (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance). Sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 1 Β on the Billboard 200 and spawning the ubiquitous hits β€œLocked Out of Heaven” and β€œWhen I Was Your Man.”

    Y'all I literally collapsed into my best friend's arms when he sang Just The Way You Are 😭😭 I've waited 6 years to hear it live and couldn't stop ugly crying! Had to reapply my mascara twice! Bruno pointed at our section during Treasure and I swear we made eye contact for 2.3 seconds. My makeup was DESTROYED but my soul has never been more alive! Thank you Bruno for giving me memories I'll cry about forever! πŸ’«βœ¨

    Teaching English in Kathmandu when I heard Bruno was touring. Immediately cashed in my savings for flights & tix! My students pitched in for a handmade Nepali vest as a gift for Bruno (security wouldn't let me give it to him πŸ˜…). 17-hour journey, 3 layovers, lost luggage - BUT when he performed 24K Magic in that gold jacket, I forgot every travel hassle. Even made friends with 6 other international fans who traveled solo for the show! Bruno's energy is universal, truly transcends borders.

We practiced our Uptown Funk dance routine for weeks and actually got featured on the big screen during Treasure! 😭 Security guard Steve was cracking up at our matching outfits and even took a selfie with us. Lost my voice from screaming but worth ittt. Our group chat is still exploding with memories from last night. When That's What I Like came on, we literally formed a conga line in the aisle!     Literally planned my entire Himalayan trek schedule around this show. Took 3 planes, a bus, and walked 2 miles in these ridiculous platform boots (had to dress the part!) to see Bruno in Vegas. When he performed 'Locked Out of Heaven' I forgot I'd been awake for 36 hours straight. Even made friends with a couple from Brazil who traveled just as far! Bruno's energy made me forget about my jet lag completely. The altitude here is nothing compared to Kathmandu, but this show took my breath away just the same! 🌏✈️

    After catching acts from Zeppelin to Prince to MJ, I know what makes a legendary show. Bruno's Vegas residency just joined that elite club. His James Brown-level showmanship mixed with Prince-worthy guitar solos and MJ-caliber dance moves - it's like watching all the greats rolled into one. The 24K Magic medley had better choreography than 90% of the arena shows I've seen in 49 years of concert-going. My weathered ears even appreciated the perfect sound mixing. Worth every penny of my social security check!

    As someone who's memorized every B-side and bonus track, I LOST IT when he pulled out 'Money Make Her Smile' from Unorthodox Jukebox. The transition from 'Calling All My Lovelies' to 'Perm' was GENIUS, and that extended bridge in 'After Last Night'? Pure heaven. Bruno even threw in that unreleased snippet from the 2010 demos! The band's horn arrangement on 'Too Good To Say Goodbye' literally gave me chills. Real ones know. 🎺✨

    Bruno absolutely killed it! Voice was perfect, dance moves were insane, band was tight. But I kept getting distracted by how reflective the stage floor was - my seat was up high and the glare from the lights was like staring into 24k Magic itself πŸ˜… Still giving 5 stars because I'm being ridiculous and everything else was beyond amazing. Just maybe wear sunglasses if you're in the upper level lol
