by Madds on 7/31/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

Bruce and the band is extremely talented. Loved the fact that Bruce took requests from the audience. The whole band played a very solid show. Would go back and see them again!!!! Can't wait to buy his new CD.

by CLMS on 7/31/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

Bruce is incredible on the piano!! I just wished he would have played more of his older hits. I didn't know a lot of the songs, but he was still great!

    Amazing!!

by RileyRose1 on 7/31/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

Bruce Hornsby is by far one of the best musicians. His concert was spectacular. He sounds the same as he did 20 years ago.

Bruce Hornsby - What a talent!

by btownsisters on 7/31/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

This concert was outstanding! Each song was pure enjoyment. The keyboarding skills of Bruce Hornsby are mind boggling - and the rest of the Noise Makers just blew us away.

Excellent playing, but obscure songs prevail

by BHGNY on 7/31/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

Hornsby is personable and an excellent musician. The band is all top notch as well. For the most part, Bruce plays audience requests that he has received before the show (as well as some shouted out at the shows). The only problem is that i the requests mainly come from rabid fans who requests songs that you've never heard of. I'm pretty familiar with Bruce's repertoire, but I didn't know more than a handful of songs. He really needs to play at least a few of his hits, not just the two he played. Overall, a great band, but it would have been nice to have known more of the songs

    Hornsby was amazing!

    by Jiggler on 7/28/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

I liked seeing him in the smaller setting. I have seen him at the Zoo and got soaked. It would have been cool if there was a shot of his fingers on a screen while he was playing so we could see the magic. I liked how he joked around and took requests.

    Hornsby is timeless

by scootergarcia on 7/27/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Great venue for this fabulous concert. Only got better as the evening went on and the sun came down. It became much more intimate and let Hornsby's personality take over the audience. And by the end of the night there was dancing as Hornsby's roots with the Dead showed thru. A great concert, a great artist with a great band and GREAT FUN!!

    bruce hornsby

by gblox on 7/26/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

I would first like to say great show Bruce you played my 3 request. The venue and the audience were lame never even stood and danced how lame. Then when a few people did get up to dance Bruce welcomed it and the crowd yelled sit down. Think that will be my last visit to the gardens. I wish he would have played at the fox. well Bruce and the boys were great to have no audience participation it was a bit comical. Thanks, gb

    Hornsby, Talented, Uninformed

by BrokerGM on 7/26/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

First, Atlanta Botanical Garden was a casual fit for Bruce. Maybe 1000 or so people mostly seated on the ground with little or no slope to the stage, decent view, if you're not vertically challenged. Note: My car wasn't GREEN enough to rate preferred parking, but my money was Green enough be accepted. Now about the Show, Bruce was his usual brilliant self, at least as far as the music is concerned. His liberal views, I'm sure are more favorably received in less concervative areas. Once during the show he remarked about the poor economy, meanwhile guest who paid over $50 to hear him sing, couldn't help noticing the hundreds of private aircraft continually flying overhead. The sound mixing was outstanding, the best I've seen at a Hornsby show. The set list was quite entertaining, Bruce could always do better, but I think he genuinely hates performing is hits, at least as they were originally recorded, even hits like "the way it is" are barely identifiable after he modifies them for live performance. Still, all things considered, enjoyable show .

We enjoyed the evening. Romantic. Good food, good weather, good music and wine under the stars. Couldn't really ask for much more.

    What a venue!

by Valfan on 7/26/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

First time attending a concert at the Atlanta Botanic Gardens, third time seeing Bruce in concert. I expected the great music, but was blown away by the setting. My view consisted of the branches of a huge oak tree over my head, the Atlanta Midtown skyline with a few puffy clouds, sunbeams streaming through them, and a sliver of a moon appearing later, the lawn, the stage, the lush green foliage and huge Moore sculptures all around. What a great place for a concert or any event. Will definitely return in the future. Of course Bruce and his band were amazing -- expected no less.

Bruce Hornsby, the best show going!

by MountainBreath on 7/25/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

The Noisemakers are so tight and Bruce is in his prime. The show was far from disappointing. The disparate crowd is always a bit of conundrum at Hornsby shows. The clash of the sit-on-my-fancy-tail crowd and the I-just-want-to-dance crowd will always be at odds. The venue needs some work on crowd management. People laid out big blankets all over the lawn-only venue and left to sip on their wine while everyone else was left to stand on the sides or haul it to the back while they abandoned their selfish claim. Then there was the second set, loud mouth, intoxicated individuals who really ruined the second set. I felt so bad for Bruce, they screamed out lame requests in the midst of the show and gave a bad rap to the others who preferred to stand and boogie to the irresistible licks being laid out by Bruce and the Noisemakers. The boogie section was overwhelmingly made up of responsible Hornsby fans who new every word to every song and listened with respect but the 4-5 assanine individuals cast a poor reputation on the entire section. Apologies to Bruce if the show in Atlanta was a bit nerve racking, Atlanta loves you Bruce!

Bruce Hornsby puts on a great show!

by Chordfan on 7/25/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

This was the first time we had the pleasure of seeing Bruce live. He and his band are incredible. They are all great musicians, and are very tight. Bruce seems to play in the moment, moving in any direction the music moves him to, and his band follows right along. The setlist was comprised of many audience requests, and old favorites. We'll definitely try to see him again next time he comes to town.

    Hornsby Rocks the Garden

by DickieB on 7/25/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Bruce Hornsby may be best known for his 80's hit "End of the Innocence" or his multi-year stint as the Grateful Dead's unofficial key boardist but his other work deserves a listen. Hornsby is an immensely talented pianist and keyboard player. His band "The Noise Makers" are all very talented as well and have been playing with Hornsby for over a decade. The band is tight yet jams like you would expect the Dead's keyboard player to jam. Bruce reworked most of his top 40 hits with artful jazzy segues that never failed to entertain or remind you of his talent. When donning the accordion, Hornsby speaks in his self deprecating way about how he can barely play the instrument and then rips into a delightful Zydigo like melody. The Botanical Garden only enhanced the quality of the music. Probably the best venue in Atlanta for a small, open air event. All in all, a delightful, relaxing show that kept you moving the whole time.

Bruce and this venue are a perfect match

by FlamingoKid51 on 7/25/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

What's not to like about great music suited for a beautiful outdoor setting in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Bruce and band appeared to be enjoying the evening as much as the audience.

Cool playing in a Cool place by a Cool guy

by GSFranz on 7/25/09Atlanta Botanical Garden - Atlanta

Hornsby is the real deal. So often today, we have people who sing and play an instrument. Hornsby is a true musician. Accompanied by the Noisemakers, the show at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens was an excellent display of their talents. The atmosphere was very laid back and unhurried. Hornsby was very warm and receptive to the audience. The Botanical Gardens is lovely cool spot for a concert. I highly recommend the musician and the venue

    Indulging at Our Expense

    by BrianU on 7/19/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Bruce Hornsby's concert and schtick was glib, sarcastic at times, and focused more on fooling around with aspects of technique than communicating musically. I've appreciated Bruce for many years, through many of his different musical phases, and really don't mind if he doesn't play his old soft-rock hits. But I do want to hear some depth of feeling in the music. Although this was supposedly an "all-request" setlist, he consistently rejected ballads in favor of percussive, semi-dissonant "piano clinic" pieces and glib, barely amusing songs like "What the Hell Happened to Me". I didn't come for Charles Ives, or to be mildly amused, or to watch him show off-- I came to be moved musically by a brilliant musician. At times he seemed like he really didn't want to be there, and at 75 bucks a ticket, neither did I.

Bruce Hornsby great - solo @ Snoqualmie

    by Lizbethup on 7/16/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Hornsby plays gigs with The Noisemakers, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and jazz with the Bruce Hornsby Trio of Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette; but my favorite are the solo gigs. You never know where the musical ride takes you at Hornsby gigs, but the rides are wilder when riding with just Hornsby and his Steinway. Old favorites of "Mandolin Rain" (minor key version), "Valley Road" and "The Way It Is" were interspersed with new songs from his soon to be released album, "Levitate". Boogie-woogie a la Leon Russel, Bach's Goldberg Variations, Danny Boy, Bill Evans - all join, transform. All become a Bruce Hornsby solo concert experience. Great!
