  • Disappointing

    by BayGirl1999 on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

Because of Bruce's beautiful piano playing in addition to collaborating with the talented YMusic group, the concert overall lacked Bruce's passion. All songs including some of his previous hits (unfortunately, not Valley Road), were played so slowly that they were hardly recognizable. I was falling asleep! If he only picked up the beat, it would have been fun. Instead, it was painful. As an artist, he has evolved and created new, whimsical music which he sings about platypus and plankton. A free CD is included. Maybe Bruce is spending more time at the sea. We sure do miss him on the range.

  • Raw Hornsby

by Big Whitey on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Well, anytime you get a chance to see this American Musical Treasure your are fortunate! Bruce improvising on his catalog of work during a set based on requests submitted by the audience, prior to his performance, is uniquely sublime, raw and unvarnished. Bruce is a true artist striving to create and has found like minded artists in BrhyM. I enjoyed BrhyM's set and their infusion into Bruce's music provides us a whole new way to feel his soul. Thanks to Another Planet Entertainment for presenting this unique performance at the intimate Herbst Theater here in San Francisco. Best, BW

  • Terrible

by William on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 1 out of 5

Like a anyone I thought it would be concert of old hits and some new music. But it was a new age type music that was just so awful unless I guess if you were into that type of music. I left in the second half after 2 songs.

  • Bruce a Hornsby and BrHyM show

by ReverencetoBruce on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

Bruce is an exceptional talent, generational talent on the piano. Chopin, Mozart level playing. His tone on the piano is like no other. His music has always lifted me spiritually. When i heard he was touring and coming to the west coast, I jumped and purchased tickets at both Herbst theatre in SF and bought 5 more to Luther Burbank I have deep respect for Bruce as an artist, one who seeks newness. Yet, I was hoping to hear more music in The Range style. I missed the band and band sound. Chamber music is not my jam and felt some of the music was hard to listen to. More about the artists than the audience. I wanted to dance at your show and didn’t really get this. The ways it is, the show must go on, age of innocence, mandolin rain were more melancholy vs uplifting. Again, the piano rift and the familiar beautiful melodic sounds of these songs live eternally in my life’s sound book. I am a forever fan! And was so happy to see you! And also stay loyal to the sounds I know and love about you.

  • One of the best!

by Rebyou on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

So fantastic to see Bruce and the other wonderful musicians. A feast for ears intellect and outlook on the world. Amazing combination of verbal and musical surprises creating sense of intimacy with personal and worldly subject matter. Great Venue size and sound production not distracted by smoke machines or fancy lighting.

  • Not my bag

by Rafi on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 1 out of 5

Bruce was magnificent at the piano, but he was accompanied by a group of musicians who played dissonant music. I expected to hear rock but got a big bowl of modern musical noise. I should have previewed the set list or gone on You Tube.

  • Not what we expected

by Bay Area Music Fan on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 1 out of 5

Hoping to hear Bruce plays his songs that created the majority of his fans and made him famous. The music was super eclectic and not anything like his classics. Sadly disappointed.

  • Interesting but Disappointing

by DDV2011 on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 2 out of 5

When artists have a new album & music, they play a few songs from it, not majority of the album. Instead of hearing the older songs we’ve come to know & love that stoke up memories, and finally be in the presence of Bruce, we got the opposite. Bruce is amazingly talented, but sadly the concert was a disappointment. We held on as long as we could but left at 10pm after hearing only 3 hit songs. Kudos to the weird album, but it’s not for us. Yes, all are talented musicians, but it was not enjoyable music to our ears. Sorry.

  • Never as good as the first time

by AnaH on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

Sadly, Bruce’s energy was low, and lowered further by his orchestral accompaniment. I understand that he’s a musician who experiments and grows, and loves jazzy, but I wish I’d stayed home. I have loved and followed him since his first album and have seen him three times before—last time in 2012-ish in Saratoga, CA. Now I have to remember past his Des Moines concert, which bums me out. Plus, a volunteer passed on to a friend of mine that Bruce said Hoyt Sherman Auditorium should be raised and leveled. Wha says that? Hope it’s a rumor.

  • Wish I could get my money back

by FunGuyIA on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

Only heard 2 of the songs that resembled the hits that made him rich and famous, and they were not good enough to make any money as played. Mr. Hornsby brought a sextet that played with him and without him. I'm sure that they might be accomplished individually on their own however together they did not sound like they were playing the same, some song at the same time. We took a 15-year-old grandson, and this was his 1st concert, I was so embarrassed. I hope that we did not put him off of live performances for life. We decided that it was not going to get any better and could not take any more of this abuse of our senses so all 4 of us left before the end of the show. Mr. Hornsby if you read this, I came to hear you perform your songs that made you, and that I listen to everyday. I wish I could get my money back.!

  • Disappointed

by Lisa on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

We were so excited to see Bruce for the first time and have our son and his wife join us- music is a huge part of our family and our love for all kinds of genres has definitely rubbed off on our kids. Sadly we were so disappointed in the concert, expecting to hear the version of Bruce’s classics that we know and loved. This concert was not marketed as a new venture for him with a totally different sound. This was not our cup of tea and such a bummer to all of us. Many of the songs we have loved for years were played in totally different rhythm and just so disappointing. The venue continues to be an amazing place to attend a concert, but it was so sad to not hear what we expected.

  • Not good at all

by Laura on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

This tour/show is really not for the typical Bruce Hornsby fan. Maybe you saw and loved him with the Dead? Or loved his Old Valley Road era? You will get nothing like that. Playing with yMusic - an eclectic NY based 6piece orchestra- each of his classic songs takes on a new life in which you need to struggle to find pieces of the original. Melodies are not even the same. It was horrible. The new songs with BH and yMusic suck. Its like listening to childrens songs and a combo of NPR. Rediculous lyrics and arrangements.

  • A disappointment

by Cory on 3/15/24Hoyt Sherman Place - Des MoinesRating: 1 out of 5

I walked away from the Des Moines performance feeling major disappointment. I was aware that he was going to be performing as much or more of his new material as he would his older songs. His support ensemble played very well, it just wasn't my cup of tea. The part of the performance that I didn't care for was when he played his old songs he didn't put any energy into them. It appeared as though he was doing the old material because he was obligated to include it. There were a couple times he put some energy and magic into the old material, and you could feel the crowd reacting, and then he would shut it down. As far as his new material, I'm not a fan. And that's fine, he can go wherever his urges take him. It just would have been nice if he had put some effort into the material that made him who he is.

  • Mesmerizing night with Bruce Hornsby!

by Jan on 12/18/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was our favorite & Bruce commented he loved it & their piano. Promised to return! Played many requests from audience & ones written before hand Improvised & introduced us to new & obscure composers which he worked into songs. He blew us away! As we exited we were given free 25th anniversary tour CD set! I’m loving it!! Thanks for a magical night✨

  • Wasted time and money

by I hear what I paid for, I heard what he wanted to play and it wasn't very good on 12/11/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 1 out of 5

He is very talented but don't expect to hear the stuff that made him great

  • Absolutely fantastic

by Brenda on 12/11/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

A man and his piano. WOW he's a great musician. Got to hear variations of his popular songs as well as classical renditions that he wrote. A one man show I could go to again.

Excellent show. Great venue. Talented Pianist. The only thing missing was some of his older music which everyone has enjoyed over the years. Still excellent show.

  • Great time!

Bruce was talking and joking with the credit he played and played. I highly recommend his show.

  • Sad, that's just the way it was!

by DJ the dj on 12/10/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

Extremely disappointing. Hardly any recognizable songs from his past. I appreciate improvisation but his was to the extreme. I have to live with the songs I know in the past and his style in that era. It will be very difficult for me to consider seeing him again.

  • Disappointing

Went with a lot of excitement. Got there an hour early, and enjoyed the first few minutes, but instead of hearing the songs the way they were recorded, it felt like Bruce was bored and wanted to show off his amazing piano skills. At times, it felt like a piano concertos. Wished he would have played his songs the way they were recorded. We left early, disappointed. :(
