  • Super Memorable Show!

by Janet on 5/5/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

It's incredible to have followed Bruce's work for nearly forty years and see what a dynamic, creative force he continues to be! The Paramount was the perfect venue for what felt like an intimate night of enjoying truly superb musicianship!!

  • As delightful as ever!

    by tallTomsM0m on 4/28/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Bruce Hornsby and his music have aged so very well. Bruce doesn’t miss a beat. His passion for his music resonated throughout the theater. So lovely to hear him incorporate the old with the new. Loved every single moment.

  • Musical brilliance that touched my soul. Intimate setting

by Kathiy on 4/27/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Beyond amazing musicianship. Bruce has not lost his touch on the keys. yMusic were indescribably excellent. Insanely good music. The Paramount is a bit worn, very clean, nice staff. Venue size & Bruce's personality allowed a connection with audience. Haven't seen a performance quite like this ever, nor enjoyed one so deeply in a long long time. Thank you

  • Eclectic

by ZRN on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Bruce Hornsby is one of a kind. Always gives the crowd new and innovative, mixed in with some old classic music. It’s obvious that he loves what he does. Really good show with some very talented musicians. Perfect venue with amazing acoustics

  • Another Great Graduate of The U

    by Steve S on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

We have been fans since his earliest days but the grew a bit when our daughter went to the Frost School of Music at The U. However this concert with the next generation WhyMusic was fantastic. The new stuff was wonderful and the new arrangements of old stuff just touched my musical heart and soul. Thanks Bruce!

  • Hmmmm

by Shyskey on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 2 out of 5

Bruce Hornsby is a great musician! He has written and recorded really good songs. He's maybe not the best performer for a live audience, I've never seen so many people walk out of a performance that was still going. We only enjoyed a few of the songs they played. Optimistically speaking, this show took the position of "Not the best we've seen". On the positive side they were all very talented musicians and played quite well. Perhaps the performance as a whole wasn't our kind of show.

  • Horrible show

by Disappointed on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 1 out of 5

I have never left a concert early but I did this one and we weren’t the only ones , I’m a huge Bruce fan from the old days but this concept doesn’t work , thumbs down , also most if the crowd was sitting on there hands , bored

  • A Little Surprised

by June on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Love Bruce Hornsby! Seen several of his concerts! This concert took us by surprise-wasn’t real into the little orchestra! Thought they were very talented and enjoyed it when they played along with his songs! But, on their own, a little on the weird side. Really enjoyed his playing at the beginning-so talented-hasn’t lost his piano playing!

  • Just ok

by Horns Bruceby on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

Bruce seems to be done with his most famous music. He opens with requests but plays them in any way but the way you’re used to. I’m sure being an artist is tough but when you have a wealth of brilliant music to draw from perhaps it would be wise to stick to that. Most of the show is dedicated to music no one will remember for anything other than that it was played by a group that could make their instruments sound like sea life. Not my thing…

  • Best artist of all time

by Rusty on 4/26/24Paramount Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Bruce is such a talented musician. So underrated and the best musician ever. So talented and just incredible.

If you’re like me who loves Bruce Hornsby’s old stuff you’ll be greatly disappointed. Not that the music playing was bad, but just not what I expected.

  • Disappointed

Didn't realize that he would be playing new music. Even though the group of musicians that he played with were very talented really wanted to hear him perform the songs that we know and love from listening to his past albums. The accoustics in the theater were wonderful and his piano sounded wonderful but was just disappointed that he didn't play the music that we came to hear. The person sitting next to me said to me as he was leaving early "this is just too painful to listen to"and I do have to agree with him.

  • Not what we expected

by BKF on 4/13/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 4 out of 5

Bruce Hornsby is still a talented Piano Player. This concert was far from what we expected.

  • Very Disappointed

by Old Guy on 4/11/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

I had enjoyed several of Bruce's concerts years ago and this was nothing like them. I admire an older musician continuing to expand his creativity and to collaborate with younger musicians, but this a bit strange and unexpected. I am older and was hoping to hear more familiar songs. I don't like writing unflattering reviews but I kind of wish I had stayed home and listened to one of his older cds.

  • Not What I Expected

by Tin Ear on 4/11/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

Bruce Hornsby is great. But for this concert he played new compositions which, frankly, were not very good. He was also reluctant to play any of his collaborations with "the Range"but he did play two after much pushing by the audience and they were excellent and a lot of fun.

  • Very disappointing

by Relliott on 4/10/24Rating: 2 out of 5

Took my grandson to his second concert last night, hoping it wasn’t his last. We spent some time reviewing his classics on YouTube with great anticipation of seeing this act. It wasn’t to be. I have been a musician almost my entire life. I approach music without any expectations but this was a mess. The Y group was an experimentation in modern chamber music. Good young musicians but very disorganized and not of any real entertainment value. They needed a band leader of which Hornsby fell short. Following the intermission, I think like many in the audience we were willing to give this another look and listen. When an entire row got up and left their seats, it wasn’t to get any better as things went from bad to worse. An artist should use his audience as an indication of how he is being received. When they applaud a classic tune, That’s the Way it Is, of which there were two (2) that I recognized, it might be an indication of what we were there to enjoy. When an audience leaves mid stream, and the performer dismisses his audience as he did several times, it’s time to reassess. Too bad as had he used the ensemble group which included horns, cello and violins to compliment his classic songs it could have been a great show. A band needs a leader and this fell short on so many levels.

  • Loved Hornsby, not so much ymusic

by Jon on 4/9/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

I’m a huge Bruce Hornsby fan and his style of playing and this was my first time seeing the maestro perform live. I give 5 stars for Hornsby. However this was co-show performance with a classical band of 6 people named Ymusic in which they created an album with Hornsby. I came in knowing that so I kind of knew what to expect as they were mainly playing songs from their new album. Frankly, I came only for Hornsby and he was spectacular but he only sang a few of his hits which was a tad disappointing. Furthermore there wasn’t a standard setlist for each show as I saw online so he plays the music he’s in the mood for which is fine as it keeps things a surprise but I wish he would’ve played more of his classics. The other half of the band and their music not so much. I never heard it and only one song really with Hornsby connected with me, the rest sounded like Hornsby and a high school band class. I decided to go only because Hornsby is on my Mount Rushmore of pianist and I didn’t know if I’d ever get the chance to see him again so I’m just glad I got to see him perform live. I should note I saw people leaving half way through the show as they were not expecting it to be this format.

  • strange 20th century music

by Bruce lover on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 3 out of 5

I love Bruce. I will allow an artist to explore. This was fun. We had good seats. BUT, even the familiar songs got all confusing with discordant and off-the-wall interpretations. He said he was doing requests, but that was just something you say to the crowd. Every piece with the orchestra was super rehearsed. So, you will probably enjoy the evening, we did, but be ready for some really strange modulations and off-the-wall interpretations of old classics. He's old, I would not expect him to need to build an audience. So, you get this.

  • Sadly, that’s just the way it was.

by BrianO on 4/8/24Rating: 2 out of 5

I attended the concert on 4/8 in San Francisco. I was more excited for this concert than any in recent memory. Sadly, Bruce played only three of the hits that I knew as a child, and they were greatly improvised. No disrespect for the other artists and the collab album, but it was nothing like classic Bruce Hornsby and it was not enjoyable at all. I hope one day Bruce will do a performance with all of the original hits!

  • Touching, interesting, mesmerizing, jaw drop moments

by Neuroman on 4/8/24Herbst Theatre - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

The quality of musicians comprising YMusic was mind blowing. The individual voicing and interweaving articulation and arranging was brilliant. Whimsical to ominous and every emotion between. Bruce’s creative and versatile artistry is a perfect match for this collaboration. Although the sumptuous arrangements of Bruce’s three familiar anchor songs were spine tingling enticement into the beauty of music soothing the human soul. My goodness those tasteful creative arrangements excited and soothed every synapse in a way that one rarely experiences. Such a gift. And that cello. My goodness.
