About Bristol Motor Speedway
You can tell a lot about the character of Bristol Motor Speedway from the nicknames assigned to the venue by racing fans. There are four in wide circulation: "The Last Great Colosseum" and "The Bullring" for the track's shape; "The World's Fastest Half-Mile" for its speed (cars complete laps in about 15 seconds); and "Thunder Valley" for its noise. The track is steeply banked and ringed with stadium-style seating. With a capacity of 162,000, it is the third-largest sports venue in the United States and the seventh-largest in the world.
Bristol Motor Speedway History
Bristol Motor Speedway, located in the northeast corner of Tennessee, opened in 1961. It was built by Carl Moore, Larry Carrier, and R.G. Pope on the site of a former dairy farm. They drew their inspiration from a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway, but the $600,000 Bristol track was a more intimate (and noisier) venue, and in 1969 the track was reconfigured with its signature steep banks. In 1992, BMS replaced its asphalt surface with a concrete surface that is now its other hallmark. It is something of a celebrity, having served as the basis for the fictional Motor Speedway of the South in the Disney/Pixar film Cars.
The speedway is home to races in the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series East, and the NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series. In the Cup Series, racing great Richard Petty holds the track record for most Top 10 finishes (with 37) and most starts (with 60). Darrell Waltrip leads with 12 all-time wins. The all-time winningest car owner at BMS is the legendary Junior Johnson, with 21 victories. Over the course of a week in 2010, Kyle Busch made history by winning three NASCAR national series races in a single race meeting: the Truck Series race on a Wednesday, then the Nationwide Series race, and the Spring Cup Series race.

Its bristol
by joker69 on 8/29/12Bristol Motor Speedway - BristolRating: 5 out of 5The night race at Bristol motor speedway is one of the top ten motor sports events. The prerace activities were entertaining. The flag parachuting and the flyover were awesome. The prerace concert was ok but the sound quality was not so good from our seats. My motel was in Wytheville Va about 75 miles away. If had booked earlier I might have found something closer. I used a route across back roads to get to and from the track and encountered no traffic tieups. The route was recommended on the Bristol website. The race was awesome and I will definitely be there again next year,
Follow the leader is back in style.
by SuperDaveT1 on 8/29/12Bristol Motor Speedway - BristolRating: 3 out of 5Racing at this track is ruined. I have been going to Bristol for years and have seen a lot of action. Most people blame it on the track, but it is not as much the track as the tire that Nascar has been running over the last few years. The harder compound has taken grip off the bottom of the track. Changing tires does not pick up much speed anymore. The tires will run too long and not fall off in speed. This takes a lot of the mechanical grip out of the equation and allows teams with inferior setups to still compete by running on the top groove of the track. (follow the leader). When the tire doesn't fall off after 20 or 30 laps, then handling does not become as much of an issue. The fact is that the track record was set many years ago with less horsepower, but a tire that had much more grip and fell off a lot more on longer runs. We saw cars gambling on 2 tires, but at a price. This created much more disparity between the cars, with cars taking 4 tires and losing track position, but able to pass cars with only 2 tires. Cars with bad setups could not run 100 laps and still be competetive. Now its all about track position and not tires. Putting cars back on the bottom of the track can only be done with the right tire.
Bristol Night is a must for every race fan.
by 88moojuice on 8/28/12Bristol Motor Speedway - BristolRating: 5 out of 5Bristol track is tucked in the mountains of Tennessee. You don't see it until your right next to it. There it is sitting on top of the hill. WOW! Go early. Visit the trailers. Be in your seat by 6. Driver intros are a must. Prerace was great. Sat in row 20. Don't sit any lower if you want a great view of the whole track. Take earplugs but listen to the cars without them for the first couple of laps, unbelieveable.
GREAT!!! time racing

Another wish off the bucket list!
by Clark7766 on 8/28/12Bristol Motor Speedway - BristolRating: 5 out of 5I really don't know where to start. This trip was something that a friendship of 30 years has waited on for a very long time. It was everything we thought it would be and more. On top of getting the tickets we also did the "Half Mile Club", Track Tour, and Victory Celebration. There really isn't anything bad to say about our experience. The entire day was phenomenal. The only complaints I have is that when renewing the tickets through Bristol's ticket office over the phone to get the Victory Celebration passes they had a hard time verifying my ticket purchase because they were bought through Ticketmaster and not the track. But they got it figured out. Then once at the track when I went to pick up the Victory Celebration passes they had a hard time finding them on the computer as well. But after 15 minutes they figured it out. Will we be back? As long as our health and our bank accounts let us we will be.
