About

Bright Eyes is the musical project of singer-songwriter Conor Oberst--an Omaha native who many have dubbed "rock's boy genius." And when one considers his prolific musical output; the ease at which he writes complex, poetic lyrics that accurately sum up many facets of the American experience; that he has been recording music since 13 and, by 24, has recorded over a dozen albums (not to mention a few EPs) and mans his own enormously successful indie record label, Saddle Creek--they may just be right. Oberst, with his trembling voice and fragile appearance, looks every bit the passionate, sensitive artist reluctantly thrust into the spotlight--something which undoubtedly lends to his massive appeal. In 1998, Bright Eyes released two albums, A Collection of Songs written and recorded between 1995-1997 and Letting Off the Happiness. Every Day and Every Night, an EP, was released in 1999 followed by Fevers and Mirrors in 2001 and then Oh Holy Fools in 2002. After taking a break to record an album for another project, Desparacidos, Bright Eyes released the much acclaimed Lifted or The Story is in the Soil. Keep Your Ear to the Ground in 2002. Several EPs were recorded and released in 2004, as well as two full length albums released on the same day--the folk/country influenced I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning featuring guest vocals by Emmylou Harris and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, a pop-electronic album featuring a full-band and "bigger" production than the former. The albums hit Billboard's Top Independent Charts at spots 2 and 3, respectively. Many of Oberst's works have been hailed as veritable masterpieces and several critics (as well as a legion of fans) already consider him to hold a place among the great American songwriters.

    Great show, great time

    by 413dreaming on 7/28/22

Saw the show at the Filmore in Charlotte end of May and I thought the show was really good. A lot of my favorite songs were played and I danced my butt off to Jejune Stars. This is my 4th Bright Eyes show and I saw Conor Oberst solo at the Orange Peel in Asheville several years back. I will always come to see them when they are in the Carolinas! My husband is a huge Bright Eyes fan and this was his first show. He hasn't stopped listening to BE since. We both had a great time. Someone else said that Conor was trashed during the show.....I thought he sounded sober and music/vocals were on point.

I had a great time at this show. The band was great, the sound quality was awesome, and the venue was really nice. It couldn’t have gone better.

Bright Eyes @ Masonic in SF

by Snoop Ral on 6/23/22The Masonic - San Francisco

Fantastic show. I have seen Conor & Bright eyes in several forms & at various venues. I think these guys can do no wrong. The music was great. And it was nice to hear several tunes off the new record. This show had like 13 people on stage. So, the sound was rich & full. He also had some over dubbed audio which was cool. The venue has a nice speaker system & pretty great lights to help tie it all together. They just present themselves as normal musicians. Nothing pretentious or over the top. Conor was in a white t-shirt & black hoodie. Nothing flashy. Their unique style of music paired nicely with the opening act Horray for the Riff Raff. Overall, just a really enjoyable performance!

Bright Eyes was amazing, sound was so-so

by Tina L on 6/20/22Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Bright Eyes put on a great show, as did their opener (Hurray for the Riff Raff), but the sound left a bit to be desired. The opener, especially, was just so loud you couldn't understand much of anything and it wasn't that much better for Bright Eyes, we just knew the songs they were singing, so it was easier. I don't know if the goal for the bigger venues is just to be as loud as possible, but simply being loud does not mean it sounds good.

    Eclectic Colin Obeurst

by Jewels on 6/19/22Knitting Factory Concert House - Spokane - Spokane

Loved this show. Each moment had a new and interesting, dancy and poetic spin. I felt so much passion pouring through from Oberst, loved the horns, the strings, the keys and other dynamic instruments that busted. I think he played a Theremin at some point! I hope Bright Eyes keeps touring. Thank You!

    No #1 hit?

by Eh on 6/19/22Knitting Factory Concert House - Spokane - Spokane

I was excited to finally see Conor Oberst in concert. He has the musicality and talent he’s always had, but he seemed intoxicated. They also skipped “First Day of My Life” from the set list, which seemed like a crap move for fans. It was a good performance, but I expected more.

Bright Eyes @ Andrew J Brady Cincinnati, Ohio

by RPDad2022 on 6/9/22The Andrew J Brady Music Center - Cincinnati

Unbelievable. This was my first time at this venue - it was superb. Plenty of space, plenty of concession - no long lines. The performance was amazing. I am a lifelong Bright Eyes fan and this is only the second time I've seen him live. I would go see BE any chance I got and I would definitely go see a show at AJ Brady venue again.

    Unimpressed

by X on 6/4/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Conor Oberst was trashed. I'm not a big Bright Eyes fan at the best of times, I went for my friends, but it was a truly terrible performance. The only enjoyable parts were when he wasn't singing and there was a horn solo or something. I've heard their recorded songs and they're much better than whatever mess he was putting on. I don't think he remembered the words to his own songs. I hope the guy gets the help he needs.

    Strings were over powered

by Groovy Phil on 6/4/22The Andrew J Brady Music Center - Cincinnati

The songs were good. The band performed well. I enjoyed the show, but it could have been better. The mix wasn’t very good. The string section and back up singers often could not be heard. The rest of the band was mixed too loud. The high mids were too loud and fatiguing. Conor Oberest’s lyrics are good, but they were muddied by the mix also. Why put all the money and effort into having a nice arrangement with a bigger band, and not get the mix right?

    Best venue in the world

by J. A. on 6/1/22The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

The Amp is a model for how all venues should be. Amazing experience from beginning to end. The staff are so friendly and obviously love their jobs. I'll never go to Orlando for a show again. The Amp is clean and easy to get around. The grounds are beautiful. Love the green initiatives!

    Great venue, fun concert!

by MamaG on 5/31/22The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St Augustine

I was impressed by the 10 person band and their versatility in playing multiple instruments! My on my negative would be that the sound levels were not great. Sometimes the treble was uncomfortably shrill and the vocals could have been bumped up. Other than that, it was a beautiful night and we all had a great experience.

    Blown Away

by KPH on 5/31/22The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

I have been a Bright Eyes fan for pretty much my whole life. Grew up with my dad playing their music constantly, as well as some other stuff of Conor’s, and now I listen religiously. I was so pumped to see them live and I had extremely high expectations, which were by far surpassed. Bright eyes knows how to rock, and Conor is such a good performer. There was so much energy, and the band is so cool in person. I loved every minute. Opener “Hooray for the Riff Raff” was great, too. I can’t say enough about what good a time this was.

    A Blast

by Gn@rzB@rz on 5/31/22The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

we will all die one day. and if this is the only Bright Eyes live performance I ever got to see, then during the replay that is my "life flashing before my eyes," this show will be a pleasant recollection in my highlights reel. never got to see Bright Eyes when I was first introduced as a rowdy young turk (apologies for the dated - and hopefully not - but perhaps - in this more enlightened day and age - insensitive ancient colloquialism [please enlighten me if I lack proper enlightenment]). but I feel cured of the agony of looking back and regretting never having done so. even if the most hardcore of fans spelled out to me exactly why I should [still feel bad], my absolution feels absolute. instead, I look forward to ideally making my way out to (wherever is left) and hitting another city on this tour, at best. or never missing the next at worst. Conor, sir. please keep south florida on your list of places to tour. i understand - rather well, in fact - that it south florida is annoyingly out of the way. but damn if it wasn't nice to see you so close to where i now live. til next time.

    Seats sucked

by SadGetHappy on 5/29/22Hard Rock Live Orlando - Orlando

First - The bands were fantastic! I purchased balcony level seats for my littlest ones first concert. Having not been in the balcony area specifically, it should have better spelled out the very bright bar directly in front of us that created a queue that completely blocked our view. It was absolutely awful and those seats should not even be an option. I decided to just take my daughter down to general admission and put her on my shoulders for the while thing. I paid a premium for the seats. I should get the difference credited to me. Also, the mix was poor. Way too much low end. Hard to make out a lot of the dynamics these acts are capable of. Consult your front of house. It was easy to get in. The venue was very clean. The atmosphere is good. The lighting was great. The staff was friendly. I felt safe.

    Bad sound
