About

Bright Eyes is the musical project of singer-songwriter Conor Oberst--an Omaha native who many have dubbed "rock's boy genius." And when one considers his prolific musical output; the ease at which he writes complex, poetic lyrics that accurately sum up many facets of the American experience; that he has been recording music since 13 and, by 24, has recorded over a dozen albums (not to mention a few EPs) and mans his own enormously successful indie record label, Saddle Creek--they may just be right. Oberst, with his trembling voice and fragile appearance, looks every bit the passionate, sensitive artist reluctantly thrust into the spotlight--something which undoubtedly lends to his massive appeal. In 1998, Bright Eyes released two albums, A Collection of Songs written and recorded between 1995-1997 and Letting Off the Happiness. Every Day and Every Night, an EP, was released in 1999 followed by Fevers and Mirrors in 2001 and then Oh Holy Fools in 2002. After taking a break to record an album for another project, Desparacidos, Bright Eyes released the much acclaimed Lifted or The Story is in the Soil. Keep Your Ear to the Ground in 2002. Several EPs were recorded and released in 2004, as well as two full length albums released on the same day--the folk/country influenced I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning featuring guest vocals by Emmylou Harris and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, a pop-electronic album featuring a full-band and "bigger" production than the former. The albums hit Billboard's Top Independent Charts at spots 2 and 3, respectively. Many of Oberst's works have been hailed as veritable masterpieces and several critics (as well as a legion of fans) already consider him to hold a place among the great American songwriters.

Oh Connor...I've been a fan for decades...

by Kelli on 5/15/23The Salt Shed - Chicago

I have been a fan of Bright Eye's for decades now, First Day of my Life was played at my wedding for our first dance, this show was the first time I ever saw them live... I ate a little Psilocybin for an enhanced experience and then..... OH LORD!!! Bright Eyes came out and thanks to the mushrooms I picked up on the tension immediately, it took a while to convince the people around me this was going to be a disaster and then it all started to unravel. Don't get me wrong the moments Connor sang his heart out, was everything I wanted and it was beautiful. But his sadness and anger was palpable, his bandmates eventually walked off and the last straw when he was like, lets get this show over with! You are loved Connor, we know you through your music and fell in love with you because of it, but man, please heal yourself. we are older now and wiser, so many people around you care. Please care for yourself.

    This was a great show

Bright eyes put on a real good show. The state theater had really great acoustics and the bar was able to keep up with the crowd

    Bummer

by Kate on 11/16/22State Theatre - Portland

Oberst appeared intoxicated and sloppy. He would often forget words to songs and was spitting on the stage (and on his own equipment). The band seemed to watch him like a hawk, waiting for something bad to happen. Overall a sad show for any long-time fans.

    Terrible acoustics, boring show

by Alyssa on 11/15/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

The theater was beautiful but the sound was bad. The band played barely any old songs and was boring. Would not recommend.

    Beyond Belief

by Atom Jackson on 11/15/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

This show was incredible. The band was rockin. The violinist and the horn players provided vibes with mastership. Conner was on! The whole experience was unreal. People hating on bright eyes are delusional. This show was the best live act I've seen in years. Kings theater was also snazzy as all get out. Thank you to Mr. Oberst and the whole ensemble 🙏

    Best I've seen them!

by Alex Wozniak on 11/15/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Bright Eyes were on point at Kings Theatre! I've seen them about ten times now and this was the best they ever sounded. Their energy was amazing. Also, shout out to hurray for the riff raff! I had never heard them before and they were really great too! Lot's of musical talent in one night and I was so happy to be there. Thanks!

Too Loud to Hear the Music

by VA Thompson on 10/31/22Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

I really love this band- have for years and I was super-stoked to see them live. However, the sound level was WAY TOO LOUD to enjoy the music. I’ve been to this venue many times (The Rialto in Tucson) and have never had this problem before. I ended up having to plug my ears so I wouldn’t get a headache, and I was standing pretty far back from the stage too- right next to the tech booth.

    Best concert ever!

    by khb on 10/31/22Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

I have been to 6 other Bright Eyes shows and this has been by far the best. Great place, makes it feel more intimate and the band really talked a lot to the public, which is not normal. They played songs the public asked for and extended the show for like a half more hour. It was perfect!!! The Rialto is the best place to see your favorite band!

    Good

    by Jerry on 10/30/22Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

Played everything I was expecting. The sound was a bit too loud, as in, couldn't distinguish individual notes (all blended together due to volume). Since I was familiar with the songs it was bearable. I've been to many loud concerts and on most bands you would expect it. I saw Conor (solo tour) a few years ago and it was a more even blend between volume and sound for the more mellow songs. That being said, I would see them again anytime they come to town.

    Too drunk but not bad

by Evan on 10/29/22The Observatory - Santa Ana

Conor was very drunk and it showed. He was slurring and unable to finish his thoughts but nailed the songs except the awful encore of boys don't cry which he did not know the words for.

    Amazing concert!

by Jeffrey Diller on 10/29/22The Observatory - Santa Ana

Bright Eyes played quite a different set list than their concert at the Greek Theatre earlier this year, and it was equally memorable and impressive! Hats off to Conor Oberst and the band!

    Always a pleasure

by Alejandra on 10/28/22The Observatory - Santa Ana

I had such an amazing time seeing bright eyes at the observatory! The band was spectacular, great set list. I also really enjoyed Lala Papa’s set, and the song that they came out to sing with bright eyes during their set. The staff at the club was very friendly and also firm with some people behind me that were causing a ruckus. The person at the merch table had great energy also.

    Amazing Show!!

by Kevin S on 8/29/22The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

Hands down, one of (if not THE) best "unknown" bands out there. Yes, they have a large fan base, but they still don't get the recognition they deserve. One of the best shows I've seen in years from a gifted lyricist and his band of endlessly talented musicians.
