Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL(Opens in new tab). They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

  • Bruins Beat Leafs!

    by SBR8 on 12/6/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The game was wonderful. I took my 9 year old son and we sat in what was supposed to be the "Tufts Family section" unfortunately we had a few drunken fools who should have sat elsewhere. Lots of profanity and rude drunken behavior.

  • Bruins Rocked!

by KrissyKoz on 12/6/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We won, do I need to say more. The fights were great too! I don't think I have seen a live game with that many fights. Of course, I don't get to go too often to the Garden. Over all I have a great time. However, the drive home was bad! Of course winter decided to start the night I decide to go a live game. But that is New England. Go Bruins!!!

23 seconds left in the game, Thomas lets the tyeing shot get by him. But Thomas proves himself in the shoot out. Makes the save and we win the game! Awesome job Thomas!

by sydbarrett on 11/28/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The Bruins game on Black Friday was great. The game was a lot of fun, my daughter had a great time cheering for the Bruins. The only thing that would have made it better is if the Bruins had won!

  • by JB22RN on 11/15/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Game was great, even though Pitt lost. My seat was good, upper level, blue line. My husbands was ok, cause he was behind the net. Luckily, the person next to me had an extra seat and offered it to me for my husband. Very nice gesture. Got some autographs after the game too.

  • Game was great, venue was not worth the price

by FranklinJim on 11/11/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

Premium tickets ought to grant you access to something better than a bland utilitarian cafeteria. The food was concession stand quality at best and the ambience was non-existent. It was nice to see the wall hanging of the Bruins and Celtics from days gone by. My beef: That an evening out with the wife totals over $700 doesn't faze me, what struck me about the Premium access was how cheap and value less it was. When I go out I want top quality. My tickets cost $275.50 each for Club 113 seats and my estimation of their real value $95 each. I have tickets to an upcoming game and I'll go to that, but beyond that I'll only go to the Bruins or Celtic on company tickets given to me.

  • by hockeymom1 on 11/11/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

It was a really good game, but you never would of known that our seats were in the family section. The majority were young guys who were drinking, swearing, and being obnoxious all night. A few got kicked out of the section (a little too late, they should of been kicked out earlier). Felt like I was at a rowdy bar.

  • Go B's!!!!!!!!!!

    by hummingbird777 on 11/11/09TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say? They won! Garden concessions prices are outrageous! $8 for a beer?

My son is a huge Boston Bruins fan. Due to a special prcing promotion, my husband and I were able to get him and my husband tickets to the game for his 13th birthday. They had an amazing time. The club seats were great, the game was fantastic and my son even caught a t-shirt. Thank you so much!!
