Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL(Opens in new tab). They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

That was the most pathetic, gutless performance for a home playoff game in a series clinching scenario. Completely pathetic!

I've been going to Bruins games & playoff games for 30-years. By far, the most dissapointing home game I've seen- EVER! The B's better wake up or they'll be watching the next round on TV.

  • Bruins Flyers game 5

THEY SUCKED! What a waste of a couple hundred dollars! They get one star because the system won't let me give zero. Only reason we stayed to the end was to boo them off the ice. The way they played there's going to be a game 7 and it'll be ugly. No way we're buying tickets for another game after last nights train wreck... No, wait... a train wreck would have been interesting and entertaining.

  • The TD Garden was ROCKIN

    by BigD02536 on 5/6/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The air was electric, and the home team felt it from the start! The cheering of the fans was so loud and so raucous you couldnt hear yourself think. Strangers became friends for a few short hours, and you just knew that despite the attempted comeback by the visitors, the bruins were feeding off the energy and support of the home crowd!

It wasn't the greatest game ever played but, the Bruins won & are keeping our Cup hopes alive! If they can just stop giving up such cheap goals.

I went to the B's game with my 2 - 30 year old sons and my 30 year old son in law . It would be hard to imagine being able to have more fun than we did last night. Up and down action with a one goal win for the home team . Yes AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was an experience of a lifetime! There is nothing like being right there at a Bruins playoff game. The seats were awesome. The Bruins won! They gave us free Bruins towels, free Bruins scratch tickets and my son caught a free T-Shirt. It couldn't have been a better experience! Just awesome!

  • Great Bruins...not great towel distribution

    by JB74 on 5/4/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Dont think the staff handled getting the Bruins towel handed out to everyone very well on the way in! About every 7th person got one because there was not enough people handing them out. Might of added to the atmosphere if everybody had them! Otherwise great game.....go B's

  • Bruins all the way!!

    by Shea2 on 5/4/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

First playoff game my husband and I ever went to. The fans were great. The game was exciting and full of energy. The Boston Garden keeps the fans involved. I really enjoyed watching everyone's reaction to themselves on the jumbotron. We had seats right behind the goalie where all the action was. I look forward to seeing the Bruins go all the way. We need another banner hanging.
