Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL(Opens in new tab). They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

  • Unforgettable game

    by Jpavlick23 on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I went with my fiance and our daughter both of whom have never been to a NHL hockey game before in their lives. While my daughter plays tots my fiance never really watched hockey a day in her life and well they both were hooked and now we are looking at packages for this season and for the future. The game was action packed with goals, hard hitting, fights and blood what more could you want in a game than that. The players were great my daughter was able to get a few laughs out of Alexandrov and Spooner when they skated by the glass and she acted like a bear growling. I think she may have scared Tarasux on the Islanders dude ran from teh glass really quickly.

  • Good Game, Great Price

by TeslaRocks on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

For the $5 ticket price, I was able to bring the whole family to take in a Bruins game at the Garden. Both teams played well. Food and drink prices were jacked up.......they said the prices were still reflecting the Summer Music Concert series rates. They have to get you somehow.

  • These guys have heart!!

by crazyhockeymom on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the most exciting games I have ever been to- these guys play balls to the wall because they are fighting for a spot on the team, or to keep a spot on the team, and its just an awesome energy to be around. I wished I could have made it to both rookie games, but this is something I will look forward to making an annual tradition! $5 tickets& general admission, can't beat it!!

  • Great Rookie Game!

    by iluvnomar05 on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome Rookie Game! Loved that it was general admision so we got to sit close to the action! Plus with all the proceeds going to charity it was definitely worth going to see!

I love the Ticketmaster web site. It only takes a matter of minutes and you receive your tickets instantly; no more waiting for the mail or standing at Will Call Windows.

  • Rookie game far exceeded my expectations!

    by Lyss86 on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

When we bought the Bruins Rookie Game tickets for $5, we just figured it would be some cheap fun and a great way to start the hockey season. We've been impatiently awaiting the Bruins season, along with the arrival of Tyler Seguin. The game was AWESOME! So exciting and SO physical! These rookies know how to play a game that you just can't take your eyes off of! They're young and chomping at the bit for a spot on the regular season roster. I highly recommend attending this next year and plan on going every year from now on! Great fun!

  • Great time for a great price:)

by Aquaticashark on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

My son and I attended the game, we had a great time. You could not beat the price especially in these difficult economic times an entire family could afford to go to a game without hitting the college savings account. Never a bad seat in there. Just as exciting as a season game, the players are awesome!

Great event, awesome price was able to bring the whole family....the rookies were great to watch...

  • awesome

by abrandnewsunday on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

it was a great event crowd wasn't to huge so its not your usual mob scene. i would highly recommend it for families who don't want to bring their kids to a game because there are to many people. Also, there were no commercial time outs so the game moved along quickly which is also great for kids.

  • Great Game

    by Rubix603 on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Went to Wednesday nights Rookie game and had a great time, what more could you ask for from a hockey game. A 5-2 Bruins win, a hat trick, a handful of fights, and a very entertaining game. The young Bruins look good and I look forward to seeing them skate with the big club in the next few years.

  • Bruins Rookie Game was a great sucess!

    by skateguy50 on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Can't beat $5 ticket for getting to sit right up next to the glass at a Bruins game, who care if they where rookies. They played hard and fought harder, these kids are out to earn a spot on the roster and brought a lot of energy to the ice. I hope they do this every year to kick off the season, great way to take the kids to a hockey game and not break the bank.

  • by BruinsC on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The game was a bargain at $5. Though only rookies played, players like Seguin, Colborne, and Caron surely have NHL talent. In fact, the game was played like a professional game. There were plenty of big hits and even a handful of fights. All in all, for the small price, the game was certainly a steal.

  • by Anonymous on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great opportunity to see the real baby Bruins play in the Garden!

  • Physical Game!

by DannyBoyQ on 9/17/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I thought for $5 it would be an excuse to get out and get to the Garden, but these kids were there to play. Lots of hussle, lots of hitting, lots of fighting. We had a blast! I'd definitely recommend it!

  • Bruins Cruise

    by Phoenix71 on 7/15/10Baystate Cruise - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

since it was promoted as having B's alumni players, it would've been nicer to have them greet the guests rather than stay in background or at least be more visible as a whole. Also, I heard that only Sweeney was there along with a Pats player, but didn't see either....so to only have one to two players on board was a bit disappointing. Could maybe next year's cruise have more players including maybe a couple from the last roster?

  • Cruise

by slickee on 7/15/10Baystate Cruise - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The cruise was a little late shoving off, but once out in the harbor it was nice. I thought the music was too loud, and the food was ordinary and a little overpriced.

  • Bruins Harbor Cruise

by Anonymous on 7/15/10Baystate Cruise - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Cruise was fun. Too bad the weather didn't cooperate. Hopefully next year the weather will be better

  • Not impressed

by Razzarita on 7/15/10Baystate Cruise - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Although cruising Boston Harbor was awesome the event itself was not very fun. The beer cost too much and the food did not look very appetizing. The music was not very good either. Although it seemed like a lot of people enjoyed it.
