Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL(Opens in new tab). They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

  • Bruins rookie game 2

    by BigD02536 on 9/22/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Hockey is finally back! Yes, its not a preseason game, but watching all the bruins rookies taking the ice in a game against the islanders was a great way to ease back into hockey season mode. It was so much fun to see these kids out there playing hard, trying to impress the parent club and play with so much passion. and for only $5 a ticket, how could you go wrong?? a perfect night out for the family!

We saw a great game, and saw some great new talent - can't wait for the 2010-2011 season! Seguin and Spooner look like the Bruins stars of the future.

This was such a great deal...plenty of good seats for general admission, good game to watch, and $5 to boot!! I will do this every year from now on...didn't know this existed until the day before the game. Awesome evening at my favorite sport, lots of action, didn't break the bank, and will bring the kids next year, plan ahead. My new favorite event of the fall!!!

  • Bruins Rookie Games

by dabroons on 9/20/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is an incredible idea to have the Rookie Games at the Gahden (not a typo just the Bostonian pronounciation). It gives the fans a chance to see the future players for the Bruins (Seguin, Caron, Knight, Spooner, Colborne, etc). Fans have an opportunity to sit in seats that could be out of their normal game price range or simply not available to the general public. At a cost of only $5 per ticket entire families are able to afford to go to a "Bruins" hockey game. All the money raised goes to charity. The chance to watch Ryan Spooner not only tie the game but to win the game in overtime the whole time we were actually sitting with his family to enjoy THEIR moment of pride and excitement. To feel the electricity in the air of the upcoming Bruins season and to feel the expectations of what WILL be a very successful season and future for the great tradition of Boston Bruins Hockey. My favorite colors may be red, white & blue but I will always bleed Black & Gold.

  • Suspension at its best

    by Nancy42898 on 9/19/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The game was very exciting. It was poking, pushing every little second and then the big fights would happen. That really got the crowd into it even more. The rookies played just like the pros great game. I'm glad the Bruins won.

  • OMG FANtastic

by KDortona on 9/19/10TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The Bruins Org should be proud of what they accomplished. This was a great time for families that can not afford to take more than 1 child at a time to reg season games. My Boys and I loved every minute of the game. I wish there were more times like this. As my boys said, " It was the best day of their lives".

  • the fights are great to watch
