About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

What can be better than Taj and Bonnie! I have seen Taj Mahal many times, but this was my first time seeing Bonnie Raitt. What a wonderful night. (Even being a Tuesday.) We had great seats, surrounded by great people. We had a great spread of food and a great bottle of wine. The weather couldn't have been better. I could have listened to those two rock all night! One of many GREAT shows I've seen.

Emotive melodies on a southern breeze

by REALTORDebbie on 8/22/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Rather blindly, we made reservations to see the BonTaj Roulet show in Atlanta. We're from Naples, FL and had little understanding of what we were about to experience. Let me set the stage. Imagine a structure: the Chastain Amphitheatre, built into a natural bowl shaped spot in Atlanta's Buckhead community. This structure was built in 1944 by our citizens for the public good - and brothers and sisters: public good was done! The site's policies allow its guests to come: picnic baskets in hand. Oh heck, bring silver and tray tables, wine glasses and libations. Fill the night with sounds of wine glasses toasting good times, fill the air with the sumptuous aromas of lots of Mamas' home cooking! Now add the inimitable Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raitt: alone and together, as the play bill boasts. Hear our nations' most appreciated blues chanteuse, Bonnie Railtt reminisce of the days when "Outside Man" was written and produced and know you're welcoming old friends who are visiting, bringing the best gifts of their harvests! Thanks to Bonnie, Taj and their combined musical associates. Darned if a nice couple of horns didn't just make things perfect!

Bonnie was as good as ever!

by shesgotlegs on 8/21/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Taj Mahal was great too. Perfect setting at Chastain. I was surprised that the venue was about 75% full, but the extra space to spread out was great!

    BonTaj Roulet - great matchup!

by shambles on 8/21/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Taj Mahal and Bonnie Rait are two of the biggest names in modern blues, and they really hit it off well. I had seen Taj Mahal perform at a very small private party before and that was one of my first introductions to blues, at that time I thought he was simply a very talented musician, but being at Chastain Amphitheater - he really played to the scale of the venue. Taj really livened-up the audience with his uptempo songs and showed his multi-instrumental excellence on some of the bluesier pieces. He played a song or two from his grammy winning album too. Bonnie Rait came on next and totally stole the show. She played a couple bluesy pieces, showing her skills with the slide guitar - before busting out "Something to talk about" and "Thing called Love". She brought Taj out to do some combined pieces which showed just how similar and co-influenced the two musicians pallettes are. Her rendition of "I can't make you love me" was chilling in it's simplicity with great silhouetted lighting and spirited solos from her bands keyboardist. A great performance all around and you know Bonnie is telling the truth when she says "I've been meaning to do this tour for decades".

    Bontaj Roule was fantastic

by jatnob on 8/20/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

I loved the interplay of both bands. They brought out the best in each other and appeared to enjoy the event. They melded well and performed much of their own material at the same event. It was always energized!

    Far beyond anticipation!

by MeNow on 8/20/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Same genre but from different points of interpretation. Bonnie Raitt has long been on my list of must do's and Chastain Park and Taj Mahal were the prefect mix. Even if you do not think you would prefer some vintage blues artist...think again. Excellent show and playlist from both artist and the climaxxx of the stage filled combo was an unexpected finale.

Bonnie Raitt & Taj - an incredible show!

by jimc0923 on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

I've been attending concerts for over 40 years. Bon Taj Roulet was the best! I also have to say the venue (Chastain Ampitheatre in Atlanta) was the most enjoyable I've ever attended.

BonTaj Roulet: Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal

by Ronsphoto on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

The best event we have seen at Chastain Park. Bonnie and Taj were great seperately, but really brought us to our feet when they played together. All the supporting musicians were exceptional and added an additional dimension to the event.

    BonTaj

by ltusmc on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Unlike most people who came to the show, I came to see Taj Mahal. I was disappointd, Taj was either not happy or he knows that he can't do what he used to do so he is going thru the motions for the money. Personally, I think he has lost his voice and ability to play. I was hurt. Bonnie, on the other hand, was Awesome and so was her band.
