About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

by FANtastical on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

The two of them together was even better than expected. Both bands were superb. Chastain is such a fantastic venue. Wish we had something similar in Charlotte.

by Joyflower on 8/19/09Chastain Park - Atlanta

I've been Bonnie fan for more than 35 years. I expected to love her. Have every time I've seen her! The combined effort of her & Taj surprised me. They were AWESOME alone & together!!! Saw them in Atlanta and it was the best concert I have ever seen. At my age and having grown up in the 70s that is saying something!

    BonTaj Roulet was a classic!

by fan1010101 on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

This was one of the best concerts I've been to in years. The depth of musical talent was amazing. Bonnie was so in command of the stage, and still the beautiful woman that she is.

Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal Together

by jc3333 on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Really great! Two favorites together. Doesn't get any better than that. Lots of 2 generation concert goers - daughter treating Mom to a favorite or parent bringing child to introduce favorite artist, etc. Catch it if you can. Tour is ~ 1/4 over.

Fun Night with Fun and Talented Folks

by Retrac on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

It's clear that both Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal love what they do and I greatly appreciate the interaction with the audience, particularly after having recently seen Bob Dylan where there was NONE. I thought both artists gave a really good performance. There could have been a bit more umph or "attitude" on some of Bonnie's numbers such as Let's Give Them Something To Talk About, but she is gracious, funny and wonderfully talented. Wish she would do more acapella to showcase her incredible voice. I Can't Make You Love Me was outstanding.

Bontaj can't get enough of that sound.!!!

by Bluesbabygirl on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Bonnie plays a slid guitar like no one else. Her sultry wraspy voice was the perfect combination with Taj Mahal's deep southern blusey voice. It was great to see them together. Loved the horns, who can get enough of a sax. Both bands playing together was hot. Could have listened all night. Chastain Park is the perfect venue for a concert, food, drink, good company and fantastic music.....what more is there?

Classic BR-Stronger than ever! Taj kicks da blues!

by flexman99 on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Taj Mahal and his band opened the night with a set that included some terrific old style Mississippi blues. Bonnie Raitt was as strong vocally as I have ever heard her. She is one of only a handful of performers that sounds the same onstage as she does on her recordings. She had her sass, smile, vocals, and some kickass slide guitar playing . . . what else could you ask for?! My wife wished she had sung some more of her ballads, such as "Dimming of the Day" and "Storm Warning," but I came for the old Bonnie, playing hard licks and sliding up and down the guitar neck with a sound that only she provides. At the end of her regular set, she invited Taj and his band back onstage and they just played . . . and played. It was almost like a private jam, but not so private. They were definitely having a good time . . . which gave cause for everyone there to have a good time. In summary, I wanna go back again tonight!!!!

    Bonnie + Taj Rock

by gamegrrrl on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

I saw Bonnie in San Antonio back in May and it was fantastic. She is totally in her prime. She plays, sings and looks better than ever, and her stage presence and sense of humor remind us why we go to live performances in the first place. The addition of Taj Mahal really emphasizes Bonnie's blues roots (she is easily on par with him as both a performer and a musician) and the energy and rapport between the two made this a lovefest not to be missed. Grab it when it's in your town.

    One of the best!!!

by decaturbubba on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

These two blues greats were absolutely terrific together! This wasn't just "two great artists playing on the same ticket," but a blending of two great individual sounds coming together to make a great package. They played off each other well, and the Taj Mahal horns accented Bonnie's band wonderfully, adding soooo much to the total event. It's obvious that both artists feel deeply for the blues and its continued vibrancy, and their love of the art came through loud and clear. What a finale, too!! See it!!!

    Bonnie has never disappointed me

by MMLaw on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

I do not think Bonnie Raitt has gotten nearly the criticial acclaim she deserves. And, teaming up with Taj Mahal made for a super-charged night of blues.

    Great Show - Great venue!

by Waker on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

We went to see BonTaj last night at Chastain in Atlanta. It was a hot - gross - nasty humid night - but the show was fantastic. I loved the old time favorites, the covers, the combo set, the whole night. It was just a great evening!

Bonnie & Taj Rocked the Stars

by trbryrap on 8/19/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre Peter Conlon Presents - Atlanta

Everything was perfect - Bonnie and Taj groove in perfect rhythm. They lit up the night, individually and together. Bonnie is the essential Blues Woman to the very soul. Her slide guitar brought tears to my eyes. And her Angel from Montgomery stole the night air right from the sky. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is due to the length of the show - ended way too early. Probably due to the venue (Chastain has noise ordinances) - and who could help but want more of perfection!

    roll on blues!

by capeNana on 8/18/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

a tour not to be missed, this concert from the hearts of two soulful giants was more than we expected. the bands, especially the horns from Phantom could not be stopped. Bonnie's vocals put her recorded versions to shame, she's absolutely electric. We wanted to dance with Taj all night long. We've been Taj fans for thirty years or more and this is the showcase he and his band deserve. Go Go Go!!!
