  • The Bodeans were terrific!

    by jennifer53 on 10/7/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Even though they were playing with a couple of last-minute replacements, they sounded just as good as when we heard the original band intact in Nashville 10 years ago. They did not play one of our favorites, Naked, but we enjoyed many of our favorites throughout their performance.

  • Great Show

    by Mooreae100 on 10/5/13Birchmere Music Hall - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen the Bodeans a couple times. The last time I saw them was a few years ago at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. At that time Sammy Llamas (founding member) was still with the band. This time I saw them at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. Not having Sammy is an obvious hole in the band (even though they did have a very good guy playing acoustic guitar that pretty much did the harmonizing that Sammy did). I respected the fact that they didn't sing many songs that were Sammy's lead (i.e. "I'm in Trouble Again," "Far Far Away From My Heart," etc.). I guess my one and only complaint would be that they didn't do my favorite Bodeans song, "It's Only Love." Kurt mentioned that they had a number of new people in the band and that they had not learned all the songs yet, but I play guitar and "It's Only Love" is a pretty easy song to play...three chords (A, D, E). Kurt plays the guitar and has been playing it for the past 25 years or so...he could have played it solo. Anyway, other than that the show was great!!! The Birchmere was the usual (I live within a couple miles of the venue)...great seats no matter where you sit with pricey food that is marginal at best and expensive beer. But no one forces you to eat or drink. They used to put pitchers of water on the table but then realized that they could really screw you and charge you like $5 for a 12 oz. bottle of Deer Creek water. Hope this helps.

  • Bodeans go through the motions

by dleehamp on 10/5/13Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 2 out of 5

A lackluster performance by the Bodeans at the Birchmere in Alexandria on 2 Oct, 13. Kurt Neumann and some backing muscians calling themselves the Bodeans plodded through a 90 minute set with an apparent eagerness to just finish the show and get off the stage. The harmonies that make the Bodeans so strong were non-existent. The current rhythm guitar player, Sam Something or other, is a mere shadow of Sam Llanos; and Kurt must think so as well because his mike was so low you could barely hear him on most of the songs. There also appeared to be little chemistry on stage between the two. Although the sound was mostly good, on the cover of Springsteen's I'm of Fire the sound was awful, but the guy snoozing at the sound board attempted to make no corrections or improvements. It encapsulated the whole night, they just did not seem to care. At the end of the show Neumann mentioned something about two new band members and no time for rehearsal. It showed. They ended the night with the song that played as the opening song for the TV series Party of Five back in 1990-something. It was devoid of energy and seemed to be played as a bone to the crowd with Neumann thinking maybe people wanted to hear it. What the crowd wanted was some energy, harmonies, and passion. Sorry, but not available from the Bodeans at the Birchmere.

Been a fan for 20 years and never saw them live...sorry I waited so long. Kurt sounds great, the band was "on" and it was a great show. First time at Birchmere...will def return!

  • great show

fun, food was as mediocre as everyone says on YELP but the music & the sound & the audience were all great. a fun time, even though i was on my own.

  • BoDeans fueled by Kenny Aranoff

by Jmb2424 on 9/24/13B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

roots rock and a great show in a medium sized club. Songs we remember and love. We missed Sammy's vocals but the BoDeans were in good form with an excellent mix of old and new. Who's that on the trap set? It looks like Kenny Aranoff! Naw, it can't be. Holy crap, it is! What a genuine treat to see Mr. Aranoff, Mellencamp, Etheridge, Seger drummer, drummer at Kennedy Center Honors, and so much more, power the BoDeans. Made a good show amazing.

  • A really nice show

by Jeknickfan on 9/24/13B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Great to hear Kurt and his super band (especially Kenny on drums) playing an awesome set of many favorite BoDeans tunes. Really fun show, honest rock and roll. Without Sammy though I believe it's misleading to call it the BoDeans. To me their sound is defined by the combination of their two voices and how incredibly well they fit together. The whole show I was thinking about how much more I would have enjoyed it if Sammy were there (I never caught a show of theirs). Nevertheless I was very glad to catch the show and really enjoyed it.

  • Bodeans are better than ever!

by LongtimeBodeansFan on 8/7/13Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best Bodeans concerts I've seen, and I've been seeing them for 15 years. Although I miss Sammy's unique voice, Kurt has added some great musicians to the group, and the added instruments (keyboard, fiddle, bongos, accordion) make the songs sound even better. I brought my boyfriend, who was not familiar with their music, and he was very impressed. A must see!

  • Bodeans awesome

Great show. Slick guitar riffs with a very tight ensemble.

  • First time seeing a show at this venue...

by RAZEDINSCOTTSDALE on 7/30/13Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 4 out of 5

The Bodeans were as good as ever, even without Sammy lending his vocals to the mix. This was our first time at this venue and I have to say that both my wife and myself were pleasantly surprised. No seat was very far from the stage, the sound was good, it wasn't oversold. Only drawback was in between songs when the band was talking it was hard to understand them given the loud buzz of conversations from the rear of the showroom where the bar was located.

  • Bodean's Rocked It!

by RetiredChick on 7/29/13Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Up close and personal seats at the Talking Stick resort were perfect for a night of fun. Haven't seen the Bodeans since Sam left the group, but Kurt and his band did not dissapoint. Familiar songs and sounds from days gone by. Fiddler Warren Hood was perfect addition to their bluesie rock sound.

  • Bodeans still fun after all these years

    by Lfgbear2 on 7/29/13Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 4 out of 5

A good, rollicking time with the Bodeans. Concert was welll paced, played all the old hits with some of the newer stuff mixed in. Only issue I would say is the sound wasnt equalized well, as it was really hard to pick up the keyboard, fiddle and accordion sounds on some of the songs.

  • Benatar like fine wine, Cheap Trick just Rocked

by anouther on 7/11/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

Missed first show no loss. Pat Bentar just keeps getting better seamed to bring me back 25 years, never sat down. Cheap trick was equally as impressive. The venue was hands down the best in the twin cities, to bad its so small .I feel the rest of the state was cheated

  • Bodeans are great

by Anonymous on 6/23/13Weesner Family Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

Because of the storm, Bodeans could only play for 1 hour. NOT LONG ENOUGH.Most concerts are up to 2 hours. Dissapointed and not happy about The Zoo putting alot of people in possible harm with the unpredictable storm.

  • Burnsville PAC last year - Bodeans - After Sammy

    by Mac79 on 4/18/13Burnsville PAC - BurnsvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Went to one of the first shows after their split, this is NOT the same band without BOTH of them in it. To continue to parade yourself as The Bodeans when 1/2 the group is missing is beyond sad and tragic it borders on fraudulent. I left after 4 songs feeling very depressed that one of my favorite bands of all time was continuing on at half speed.

  • BoDeans blow the roof off in Kansas City

by jcbmtn on 2/12/13Knuckleheads - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

What an awesome concert this was, absolutely mindblowing. Kurt Neumann and company were on fire all night, playing to an overflowing sold out crowd. The place was going wild, dancing, jumping up and down, singing along, and having a blast the entire night. The new songs off "American Made" were the best new BoDeans songs in many years. Flyaway, Absolutely, American, and Shake The Fever were fantastic. And of course they played all of Kurt's anthems he wrote in the past like Idaho, Fadeaway, You Don't Get Much, Good Work, Dreams, Angels etc.. they were extremly powerful and Kurts guitar work is incendiary. Those who are complaining Sam Llanas left the band, so what, he was never the leader of this band, and is not missed in the least. Certainly wasn't missed at this concert, the crowd was TOTALLY into it big time. The BoDeans are in fact better than they have ever been, and the "newer" more rugged sound is awesome. Neumann's guitar playing has never been better, he was mindblowing, creating a huge wall of sound that was crisp and powerful but not overbearing. The addition of Warren Hood on fiddle, with regulars Bukka Allen on accordian / keyboards and Noah Levy on drums is indeed the "real" band, and the new songs are some of the best BoDeans music ever put on an album by this incredible band.

  • BODEANS WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING :(

    by bling92 on 1/8/13Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 2 out of 5

Nothing against the Rialto, SEATS WERE AWESOME!! 3rd row, what was so heartbreaking was the Bodeans are not the same without both of them singing. I hope to GOD they mend their differences and really look back at all they have accomplished together and get back together because we will not see them if they don't. They are a GREAT band together bottom line. 30+ years and then split? Come on??

  • BoDeans Rocked in the New Year

    by drbvh99 on 1/3/13Potawatomi Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Expo Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

The "new" BoDeans have a much deeper sound - love the addition of the violin, etc. Very intimate setting!
