Over the past several months, Bobcat Goldthwait has been on the creative fast track. As one of the most recognizable comedians in show business, Goldthwait unleashed his one of a kind brand of comedy in his new Showtime one hour special entitled “You Don’t Look the Same Either.”
Since his first appearance on David Letterman at the age of 20, Bobcat has expanded his resume, directing movies and sharing his behind the camera talents on shows such as; “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “The Demetri Martin show,” “The Chappelle Show,” “The Man Show,” and “Crank Yankers.” Best known for his unforgettable movies that were huge in the 80's, Bobcat has also starred in several HBO specials and a slew of television appearances to numerous to mention. Bob continues to push the envelope with his unique brand of humor headlining major comedy clubs across the country.
Wits was so much fun! Would do it again in a heartbeat.
Steven and Bobcat stole the show! Well produced. Great date night!
It was a genuine pleasure to see Bobcat in this phase of his career. And by phase, I don't mean "the washed up 80's comedian does a great job considering...". This show was not Bobcat as a nostalgia act, although he did do a few trademark screams to placate the people who were expecting just that. What made this performance truly great is that this was Bobcat as a humble, introspective human being, without sacrificing any of the dark, outsider wit. When he noted that current media darling Betty White is an awful person, or that people who vote for American Idol have nothing to truly to share with him, or even dared to tell a joke that involved the Special Olympics, he actually took the time to explain himself. Not to coddle the people who might be easily offended, but to tune the audience in on his perspective, while still managing to make it funny. This is the first time I've seen Bobcat's stand-up live since the early 90's, and after seeing this performance, I truly understand why his newer films like "World's Greatest Dad" are amongst some of my all-time favorites. The Bobcat that we have now is an evolution of the zanyness of his earlier work, only slightly tempered by an obvious need for growth and reflection. Maybe I'm overstating this a bit, but to compare the Bobcat that I experienced as a kid in the 80's, to what he is now, is bordering on re-invention. So, please welcome: Bobcat Goldthwait mark II.....
The show was a little under sold, but that did not deter Bobcat, it became part of his show! A bit of the old material, some new, and a typical hap-hazard string of whatever goes!!! Since he was from Syracuse (Go Orange!) there were some local bits, and he even delved into audience participation which made it feel very personable. It was a pleasure to see as he is more known for his directing now. Look forward to the musical! Thanks Bob!
Sevens at Casino Queen was not a good venue. Also, the opening act I rate 3 out of 10 and Bobcat I rate 6 out of 10. Bobcat looked angry or upset during the show. Including the opening act, total show was below 1.5 hours. Bobcat left the stage when the show was over as well. No goodbyes, nothing.
Absolutely hilarious. I laughed until I cried - a few times. Much funnier than I ever expected. Would gladly see again.
Bobcat was the funniest comedian I've ever seen and the venue was very nice and had cheap drinks.
ive been trying to catch his standup act for years but due to work never could make it while there wasnt a big crowd, i enjoyed every minute of it he was hysterical pulling no punches on anyone after the show he was readily available to meet fans sign autographs and take pictures with fans truly a class act in the entertainment business if he ever comes thru st louis again i will gladly buy tickets and be there again and again!
I felt so bad for Bobcat. The first show only had 29 people there due to poor parking. The second show was sold out. Even though the small crowd my have knocked him for a loop he still gave us a great show. If you haven't seen Bobcat since the 80's you are missing out on a brilliant and insightful comedian.
Bobcat veered off track purposely after sizing up the smattering of patrons. He went into story telling mode and had us begging for other 'Bobcat true encounters.' His regular routine was very funny, too. Good interaction with the audience. The opening act was very good, also.
