BOB MOULD IN CONCERT:

Legendary former Hüsker Dü and Sugar frontman Bob Mould continues to bring inimitable energy to every stage he plays on tour. Whether he’s performing his solo material or favorites from his classic bands, Mould combines catchy power-pop hooks with the intensity of hardcore punk to deliver punchy fun. On standouts like “Celebrated Summer”, “In a Free Land”, and “It’s Too Late”, his plaintive vocals and heartfelt lyrics connect directly with audiences. But he’s also not afraid to kick out a wall of guitar distortion, running around the stage with abandon during his ferocious and freewheeling solos. With a tight rhythm section backing him up, Bob Mould still packs the same powerful punch that has made him a favorite among hard rocking ticket buyers for decades.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Bob Mould rose to prominence in the Twin Cities hardcore scene when he founded Hüsker Dü in 1979. Together with drummer/vocalist Grant Hart and bassist Greg Norton, Mould and the group would go on to transcend punk and play a crucial role in the development of alternative rock. After releasing several albums on independent label SST (including 1985’s New Day Rising, which was ranked as one of the best albums of all time by Rolling Stone) the group broke new ground for punk bands by signing with major label Warner Bros. Records. After the band split in 1988 Mould decided to make a drastic change for his 1989 solo debut album Workbook, which featured cleaner guitars and unique touches like cello. The singer-songwriter then formed Sugar in 1992 and released Copper Blue, which venerable British music magazine NME named Album of the Year. Despite the band's success Mould decided to go solo again in 1995, returning with a critically acclaimed self-titled album the following year. Over the course of more than 35 years of both underground toil and mainstream success, Bob Mould has never lost his zest for live performance or knack for endearing songwriting, which he proved on 2016’s Patch the Sky.

    Bob Mould 9/22/21

by The Mighty Zero on 9/25/21Saint Andrew's Hall - Detroit

Bob was in rare form that night, he and the band sounded excellent! Myself and several of my friends were in attendance and we all had a great time. I was really happy that Bob had sent out a message asking everyone to mask up for the show, and everyone for the most part honored his request. I've seen a lot of shows at Saint Andrew's over the years, but this one will be in my memory for many years to come!

    Blew the doors off!

by Dennis on 9/19/21Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

Barn-burning set, Bob and the band blew the doors off the 'dise! New tunes, and songs that stretched across his entire career going back to Sugar and Hüsker Dü. Also enjoyed the openers, Kestrels, quite a bit. Pleased to see that almost everyone was following along with the COVID restrictions so we can all get back out and enjoy live music again!

    Great show!

by Rik on 9/19/21Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

Bob Mould always puts on an excellent show and this was now exception. He and the band came 100% ready to rock and they did just that. Super-tight and played lots of hits. The sound was great too. Just can’t say enough. Thanks Bob!

    Bob Mould- Powerful Solo Concert

by Music Fan on 2/3/20The Queen - Wilmington

Bob played an electric guitar solo for over an hour and it was great... I first heard Bob back in the early 1990's when he formed the band SUGAR. He played a powerful show, jamming on the guitar across the entire stage and hit solid vocals... Even after all these years, he hasn't lost a note... Simply a Great Show... wish it could have gone another hour.

    Great setlist, but...

by Edge on 1/31/20The Queen - Wilmington

The setlist was great, but I'm not sure about the solo electric show. Just Bob, his guitar, an amp & a smoke machine. Really could have used a complete band to make it rock. However, he had great energy on stage.

    High Octane experience

by Scrap King on 1/31/20The Queen - Wilmington

Mould delivered an un-corked wall of sound that sounded like two and often three musicians at once. His command as a frontman, and his capability on electric rhythm guitar really is its own thing. Why not 5 star is only that he might have brought down that dynamic and played something like “Heartbreak a Stranger” than just stay cranked up. But in some ways, why slow the horse down when it is at a gallup. I think other than Pete Townsend and Billy Bragg, Mould has the ability to be a fully-fledged band in one man. It reminds you what a deep well he draws from as a songwriter, and that isn’t common. Don’t miss him, it’s a memorable musical moment, but faaaaaaar from unplugged, it roars like a hungry lion!

But he was especially good at the Teragram! If you’ve never seen Bob, it’s loud, but sooooo amazing!!

    Very energetic show

    by D. B. on 3/5/19The Fillmore - San Francisco

High energy, speed-gun versions of Bob songs. While they may not sound quite the same as the studio recordings, there was an energy to them that made the show a blast. The one thing I'll say about the Fillmore though: the stage is too low. I'm not a short person and it's still hard to see over everybody there.

He’s older than me, and I was the one who needed to sit down and take a breather after his show. Band was super tight

Bob Mould/Sugar saved Rock & Roll

by irksome on 9/22/14Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Saw his Workbook tour, witnessed the glory that was Sugar (major contributor to my current hearing loss), and was at a Nightstage solo show where, when the crowd suggested he stand up, he suggested we all sit on the floor instead. But I digress. This show was a sonic onslaught, shimmering guitar over a steady driving beat. "Come Around" took me far, far away. "I Apologize" in all its majesty. New stuff from Beauty and Ruin fit right in. I'm a big fan, maybe you can tell. If you're reading this because you're wondering if you should attend, yes you should beg steal or borrow for a ticket and a means of transportation. No regrets.

    Awful!

by GGman on 9/16/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I'm a big Mould fan, love his solo stuff, Sugar, Husker Du, seen him about 5 times, always been great, but this show sounded awful, couldnt hear anything he was singing, the guitars drowned out everything, i even tried moving around, but still sounded bad. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend it.

    Bob Mould was superb!

by JimK5 on 9/16/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Bob and his band were a juggernaut, ripping through new "Beauty and Ruin" material and throwing in several old favorites during their set. Bob's one of the few artists whose shows I will attend until my dying breath...

    Can't rate it highly enough

by MarktheDog on 9/16/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

One of the best shows I've seen in years. From start to finish, Bob Mould played through his vast library of songs with power and energy. He blended in the Husker Du and Sugar between songs from his new album. Tremendous show.
