About

Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in New York in 1967. The group is well known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin, and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres . The band is a pioneer in heavy metal music both for its hard-edged musical assault and its use of sci-fi and occult imagery.

BOC rules! The songs are classic and the band pulls you into them like they are fresh vinyl. The concert experience will make you a believer - On your feet or on your knees! Radino on drums kicked ass, and kept the monster machine at high energy - from a very subtle background to full out solos! The addition of Rudy added a sweetness in bass playing that you have not heard in many years and many bands! What a treat! Castellano on guitar and keyboards could have his own band that kicks as much ass as godzilla! BD - guitar mastery beyond belief! Not of this world, how can you pull those licks off with only 10 fingers? Bloom is the ring leader who takes you along to the stairway to the stars! Laser beams, monsters, leather, kick ass musicianship - nothing but good clean fun!

  • BOC the Standard

by Chezcuttings on 7/25/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen BOC many, many times over the years; starting in '75, through their 'popular' years, to today. The new line-up provides some depth, options and really helps to fill in some voids that may be a result of the aging rock star syndrome. Buck and Eric rocked. You have to keep these pioneers in high regard for their metal and mettle. No disappointments with theses guys, they have consistently delivered their standards and slightly twisted material time and again. The crowd was generally older, with many vintage BOC t-shirts being sported. There were a few other songs I would have liked to hear (E.T.I., Astronomy, Flaming Telepaths, The Seige of Baron Von Frankensein, etc.), but they made good selections

From opener "The Red And The Black" to the double encore "Golden Age Of Leather/Hot Rails To Hell" New York's finest were in rare form. A packed house got the hits "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", "Burnin' For You"; old favorites "Then Came The Last Days Of May", "Godzilla"; and rarities "Stone Of Love", "Black Blade". No sour notes from these veteran rockers. It's no surprise METAL MANIACS magazine called them the "greatest live band ever"! Buck Dharma is one of the greatest guitarists of all time and Eric Bloom sounds as good as ever. Richie Castellano (guitar, keyboards), Jules Radino (Drums), and Rudy Sarzo round out this stellar act that blends old-school metal, sci-fi rock, and smarter lyrics than one finds in today's market. If these guys come to your area, do not miss it. If not, hey, we flew from Houston to LA for this gig!

  • Sound guy for The Grove needs new ears

by edpont on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

The band was AWESOME!! Though this is the 2nd show I've been to in recent history at the Grove where the sound was not as good as it has been in the past. Bass guitar and bass drum were WAY too loud. The rythym guitars were drowned out.

  • Blue Oyster Cult still rocks!

by Backspacer on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Great performance by a band I listened to a lot in the 70's and 80's. I never get tired of hearing their hits, as well as some of the other album tracks that didn't get the radio play. Saw them in '86 at a club under the alias "Soft White Underbelly", but last night's show was much better. Great venue with good acoustics, good food and a lot of fun people!

  • BOC

by actionace on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Old school rockin' like it should be. Loved the show, guys lotsa energy from my generation. Only gripe is maybe a little longer show, with a nod to more of your hits. Woulda loved to hear a jammed out Nosferatu for example... I kept thinkin the next song will be it... OK the next one will... kinda disappointed when it never came up.

  • BOC was kick ass!!!!!!!!

by Superglo on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I took my my girl to the the concert last night. She was so impressed with the band and is now a groupie. The acoustics and the intimate setting of this great venue allowed for concert enjoyment and foreplay, Yeah Baby!

  • Blue Oyster Cult was so "tight", so GOOD.

by fracturedfemale on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I saw these guys in my early 20's. I have seen BB King, U2, Led Zepplin twice. This has to be in one of my favorites. BOC was amazing fluid. The venue was great and intimate. Staff very nice, parking was great, full bar and great food. A very happy unexpected surprise.

  • B.O.C. Jams

by dactribble on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

If you love bands who jams, then go see Blue Oyster Cult. They know how to do it. But the venue, that a different story. If they are having a dinner show with any act, then be prepare for a overprice dinner.

  • On Tour Forever!

by shkspr on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I probably saw Blue Oyster Cult live for the first time in about 1976, and, ever since, I never miss an opportunity to catch them. I have to say...last night's show was one of the strongest I've seen from these guys in quite some time. It's always a little sad to see Eric and Buck up there without Alan Lanier, but Richie Castellano is absolutely phenomenal, and brings something special to the lineup. The same can be said for Rudy Sarzo's bass playing. It seems as though Eric is more and more content to let BOC be Buck's band, and most of the evening's highlights belonged to Buck ("Buck's Boogie," "Stone of Love" "Last Days of May"). Hey, the band has been together for close to four decades now; shifts in the dynamic are inevitable. But, the bottom line is always the same: BOC can still rock with the best of them.

  • BOC ? Good but......................

    by bigswfty58 on 7/20/09Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

I'am a big fan of Blue Oyster Cult and have seen them at this venue several times. They always seem to put on a great show but, there is an issue with the sound. It always sound kind of muffled and muddy. it is too bad that in this day and age and for the price of concert tickets that more bands would make sure they sound as good as possible. Who knows maybe it is the venue?

  • Blue Oyster Cult rocked!!!!!

Blue Oyster Cult was awesome.....didnt love the opening bands so much, did not realize how much time we would have to sit there before seeing them...but it was worth it.

  • Rudy Sarzo rocked with BOC soooo happy!

Superb, I loved it and wish they were coming back next week

  • BOC = Awesome

by Guy123 on 7/18/09B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Blue Oyster Cult have never fail to amaze me over the years. The Cult always mix in old classics with their more commercial material for a perfect blend during the night. As much as I've heard "Don't Fear the Reaper", the song is played with great fire during every performance I have seen by BOC. New members Rudy, Jules and Ritchie add to the band as others have before them. Ritchie was particularly on fire on this night. Rudy is a great player (His bass solo is a great feature during the show)and Jules always gives his best. BB Kings has pretty good food, a good bar and if you get to the show early enough, enjoy a drink, you will get a good seat for the show.

  • Where is everyone?

by Livemusicbuff on 7/18/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

It was great to see the old Rainbow classics rolled out by Over The Rainbow, but I couldn't help but notice the setlist leaning heavily on Dio and Bonnett era material. Why? There were so many great Turner era songs I didn't get to hear. Also I had looked foward to seeing Don Airey on Keys, the Keys were fine, but I was a little let down. On comes BOC, one of the better long standing live acts in rock left. I love that BOC will vary their setlist, I have seen them many times, and they always roll out some surprise. However for the more casual fans I wondered if anyone knew the material (at least 4 songs from the debut album-30+years ago). Notably missing from the Lineup is Al Laneer, but Rudy Sarzo is filling the Bass position, and Richie has moved to Guitar and Keys for Al. Both bring much excitement to their new rolls. Lastly Ihave to say this was the worst Detriot audiance turn out I have ever seen-bar none. Tough Economy I know, But don't think the company is gonna get tickets for you anymore.
