About

Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in New York in 1967. The group is well known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin, and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres . The band is a pioneer in heavy metal music both for its hard-edged musical assault and its use of sci-fi and occult imagery.

  • Good night with some timeless rockers

by ILOVESHOWSnStuff on 8/18/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Great live show with the new and old. Too bad the security would not let us stand up and at least wave our arms. Honestly they made you sit down. Who can sit during GODZILLA?

  • BOC was great

by Bones1961 on 8/18/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The ribfest was cool. The food was great. The bands were very good. We had a great time! I almost caught the guitar pick that Buck threw out in the audience. The guy in front of me missed it. It landed on the ground but the guy behind me grabbed it.

  • boc rocks!

Great show! They were better than ever!! They played longer than we thought they would. All the classic songs were played to perfection!!

  • BOC IS STILL INCREDIBLY ROCKING !

by GONZO2 on 8/17/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

i'm still floored at how they still rock & sound so good, even if there are only 2 or 3 original members.

  • BOC Amazing as usual

by ScottMac on 8/17/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

BOC was Awesome as usual, we had front row seats. I took my son, it was his second time seeing BOC, he loved it. Rudy Sarzo and Ritchey and Jules (The newest members of BOC were awesome, quite and upgrade from the Bouchard Brothers.)

  • Still Burnin'

by JamisonG on 8/17/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

Blue Oyster Cult has been one of my favorite bands since I discovered them at a garage sale about four years ago. This is the third time I've seen B.O.C. in as many years and they are still able to set cities on flame with rock 'n' roll. They played the songs you'd expect to hear (The Reaper, Godzilla, and Burnin' For You) and the concert staples (Buck's Boogie, Me-262) but also threw out some curve balls this year (I did not expect The Red and The Black or Perfect Water!). The first time I saw B.O.C. play Shooting Shark I didn't dig it... but it grew on me the second year. Last year I wasn't particularly excited for The Vigil... but this year it really did it for me! We didn't get to hear E.T.I. which made me sad, but what can you expect from a 13-song setlist? B.O.C. has so many fantastic songs that it would be impossible to have them all played live at one concert. I was really hoping for some In Thee or Then Came The Last Days of May (which in 2008 at the Allegheny Summer Concert Series was INCREDIBLE!). Some Dance on Stilts or Harvest Moon would have been cool too. Buck's voice is still in top shape even though he's in his 60s. Eric did a good job too even though he sounds a bit different from his '70s work. But he still has it, as proved by what was to me the standout song of the concert, Black Blade! Eric is a great showman and I was so amazed with his performance of this song! Richie was excellent on keyboards and guitar (AND his vocals on the encore, Hot Rails to Hell!), Jules was an insane drummer as usual, and I sat in awe at Rudy's fast fingers on bass. Eric didn't have any particularly stand-out guitar moments and Buck easily dominated on guitar for the entire show, playing nearly non-stop solos. The show started off a bit slow (the tempo of The Red and the Black was significantly slower than the album version) but by the end they were kickin' out the jams. I was extremely satisfied with Blue Oyster Cult and cannot wait to see them the next time they are in the area!

  • Blue Oyster Cult/Ribs Burning Up the River!

by wkb58 on 8/17/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

The event was a total success as the music and ribs were the stars on the river! Many bands played as I ate my share of ribs from many fabulous vendors, and the weather was great. The cold beer flowed and the view of the skyline of Pittsburgh and the river along with the side of the mountain was spectacular!Blue Oyster Cult was the headliner and never fails to please as i have personally seen then 13 times in my life and a huge fan of Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom and the rest of the band!I highly recommend going early and enjoying the Station and all it has to offer in entertainment and good times!

  • BOC still rocks after 37 years!

by userathome on 8/17/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Overall, the show was good. They played many classics but also a few too many of the "newer" songs that I didn't recognize--and judging from the audience response to those songs, neither did they. A particular "highlight" to the show was their use of "more cow bells" during "Don't Fear the Reaper." It's nice to see that they can make fun of themselves!

  • BOC was worth seeing

by JAGCS on 8/7/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The opening bands were not that great, the Grizzly Rose could have better acoustics, but BOC rocked. They could have come on earlier though!

  • BOC should be opening act at Red Rocks or Fiddlers

    by TG123 on 8/3/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Great value. I hadn't seen Blue Oyster Cult before, and thought that opportunity had long passed. They still have the 2-original guitarists (the soul of the band), so they remain intact enough to warrant a look-see. Good show, very tight set. Loved being able to see them in an intimate, laid-back setting that doesn't gouge you (the Grizzly Rose) on admission and drinks (although the dance floor poses many obstructed views for those in the seating on either side and beyond). Still, BOC deserves to be an opening act at Red Rocks or Fiddler's Green rather than being relegated to the small club circuit.

  • BOC WAS AWESOME

by Peckjo on 8/1/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. Awesome performance. I love to go to shows at the GR man. Smaller venue. As I said to a gent after the show,"AllI can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Good show

    by 2Che on 7/28/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

The show was good small venue but big enough to get some room for people to dance. Good set list they even played a request from the audience. Opening bands were ok really liked the Rush melody from the 2nd band.

  • Blue Oyster Cult

    by ROHA1 on 7/27/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The band is still great. If you like progressive rock they are one of the best still out there. The are a tight, professional rock band that can pump out the hits as well as the jams and blew down the house on 'Godzilla' and, of course, 'Don't Fear the Reaper'. The two original members are in good voice and good guitar. After 35+ years...amazing.

  • Blue Oyster Cult Rocked the House!!

by PipeLizzard on 7/27/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! Blue Oyster Cult played outstanding and didn't miss a note or a beat. The sound was so clear and the boys were having so much fun on stage. This was my first time seeing BOC in concert and now I wished I would have went to more of their shows. I think it is so cool that they have survived for so long and are still playing gigs! Keep on rocking!!!!!!

  • BOC was,is and will always be GREAT!

by oldhippieone on 7/27/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 2 out of 5

The Grizzly Rose had BOTH kinds of music-country AND western-and after the TWO warm-up bands(when I bought FIVE tickets,it read ONE warm-up band) I was sorely disappointed that they had obviously left out their time-share presentation-but my bad-I should have realized that wasn't going to happen after our first round of drinks weren't comped-nor the following 4 or 5, or 20-who remembers? It's only DETAILS...

  • It's been a lotta years

by Cuilean on 7/25/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

BOC can still rock the house! I haven't followed their career since the early '80's, so therefore I was unfamiliar with a lot of the songs they played. Still, they show was great, and the songs I did know were phenomenal.

  • Years of Rocking has made these guys amazing!!!

by netgnomemom on 7/25/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Blue Oyster Cult was Awe Inspiring last night. The Grizzly Rose was packed with fans from 18 to 70 yrs old, all of them ready to rock! There were two band before BOC came on, the first one sucked so badly there were times when absolutely no one clapped - it was a country bar, so country bands are to be expected- but their mangled dirge of 'Fat Bottom Girls' made the crowd a bit ugly early on. Luckily they were quickly followed by a local cover band, Crimson Sky, who did a great job of warming up the crowd. They did a pretty decent rendition of a medley of Rush songs, a bit of AC/DC and classic Metallica - the crowd was still chanting BOC, but you could tell that people were having a good time and ready for the main act. When Blue Oyster Cult came on they totally rocked the house! The guitar playing by Donald (Buck Dharma) Roeser was intense, beautiful amazing to watch. Whether he was singing the counterpoint to Eric Bloom or the lead he was spot on. I've seen some bands that just haven't aged well, and the live renditions have made me ache or the originals... Not these guys - I wanted to take a live recording home with me! Eric Bloom's voice is still crystal clear and every song pitch perfect. He smoothly transitioned between the keyboards and guitar - clearly a master of both. The newer members of the band, Ritchie Castellano, has moved from backstage to the front with the retirement of Allan Lanier. Sharing keyboards and guitar with Eric, he is clearly doing what he loves best and it comes through. His energy and enthusiasm is infectious and as expected of any lead playing in BOC, he can SING. They addition of classic metal/hair band Master Bassist Rudy Sarzo has keep the fine BOC bassline going strong. On drums was Jules Radino. Watching Jules play , I can see why BOC drummers don't get old - the energy they expend is enough to light a city on flames (with Rock and Roll)! BOC played until after midnight with Hot Rails to Hell as the encore. I was having too much fun singing, jumping, dancing and just plain enjoying listening to the Band to actually keep track of the setlist! Hope they'll come back and play the Grizzly Rose again - it was a fun, fun show to be at!!

  • B. O. C. Rocked!

by Pizz on 7/25/09Grizzly Rose - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

What a fun show! All three bands were very good. I thought it was a little unusual to have a country band as an opening act for a rock band, but they had more of a rock-country sound. B O C was great! They played all my fav songs; Burnin' For You, Godzilla and Don't Fear the Reaper. It was a fun time for sure and there were alot of fun characters there. We had just as much fun watching the people at the concert as we did watching the bands.
