About

Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in New York in 1967. The group is well known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin, and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres . The band is a pioneer in heavy metal music both for its hard-edged musical assault and its use of sci-fi and occult imagery.

  • Blue Oyster Cult - way good

by spork on 10/26/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great concert for the money ($30). These guys are technically awesome, and the licks are memorable. This is one of those bands that you forget about and then when you remember - you are blown away again. Only down sides: Some songs were slightly re-invented (ok, but not improved) Smoke gets in your eyes (hair/throat/clothes/everything) at Emerald Queen. Makes you want to burn your clothes afterwards.

  • Rock and roll by BOC is here to stay!!!

What a fantastic show Blue Öyster Cult put on at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA on October 24, 2009! I brought my daughter who was probably the youngest one there (26) and even she was very impressed. Blue Oyster Cult, even though there are only two original members in the band put on a highly polished show of their best fan favorites and were high energy and impeccably played over the 2 hours that night. I've never seen them live, but for all accounts their playing was as fresh as the day the songs came out (some even 30+ years ago). Eric Bloom, Buck Dharma and co. thrilled the 500+ members of the audience that night and I have to say that they are one of the tightest bands playing live these days. That's really important considering the band was formed 37 years ago. The best moments were "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll", "Burnin For You", "Godzilla" and the ultimate crowd-pleaser "Don't Fear (the Reaper)" aka the cowbell song. I never knew how well these folks jammed together but one could sense they have been playing together for a long, long time and have that all important vibe of knowing when and where to congeal for an incredibly tight and electricly charged performance of the highest caliber. I rarely ever go to shows anymore but I'm grateful that I got the opportunity to see this band live Saturday night at the EQC and would gladly recommend others have the same chance to see them and would welcome another chance to see them in this area.

Great show, lots of good oldies. Still one of the best bands that play bass, guitar and drum solos

  • Tacoma on Flame w/ B.O.C.

    by boognish666 on 10/26/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Best damn B.O.C. show I've seen in a while. I wonder if Allen Lanier will be back with Rudy leaving?

  • Excellent as always, good venue

by TheOriginalAtarian on 10/26/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 8th time I've seen BOC since 1986, and they're still rockin. Love the small venues, and the second row seats were well worth the price. No crappy opening act to sit through - which is a plus for me. Great selection of songs - mostly early to mid stuff which I think is their best. Will continue to see them as long as they come here.

It was a great concert. The guitar playing was THE best!

  • BLUE OYSTER CULT was good

by TSVENN on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 2 out of 5

I am just getting old. The music was good, but lots of head bangin guitar stuff and nothing that was familiar. We only stayed about an hour though. Our seats were 4 rows from the stage and all the way towards the wall. Not great at all. I tried to get an idea of the seating chart on line and couldn't find anything to show our seats.

  • The Amazing Blue Oyster Cult

by thebigbq on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

They don't call them Amazing for nothing! A great show for a hard core BOC fan, they played a sampling of songs from their early albums. Buck was awesome as usual. Rudy gave a great effort for his last show. Richie and Jules play with great energy. Eric shows that he cares about the performance and jokes with the crowd when they had techincal problems. The band played like they wanted to be there and gave a great effort.

  • As good as ever

by HanoverFist on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen BOC 7 times now, and they've always been very good. Some folks will kid me with comments like "geez, they're still around?", but to that I say "They've been playing a long time, so they're REALLY GOOD"! This time they played a few songs I haven't heard live before: "Before the kiss, a redcap", "Shooting Shark", and "The Visitor" (I think that was the name, I might have that wrong). They also did "Black Blade", and "Hot Rails to Hell", two of my faves. A few other songs they played were "Godzilla", "Don't Fear the Reaper", and "Burnin' for You", which they've done every time I"ve seen them. If only they would've done "ETI"... A great show as always from BOC. Great musicians, and the guitar playing of Buck Dharma was incredible! Tons of solos last night. Rudy Sarzo on bass was a treat as well. I miss Allen Lanier, but his replacement, Richie Canstellano, is quite good as well. He had a couple great solos on keyboard and guitar. If you like guitar driven hard rock, you've gotta see these guys before they call it quits for good.

  • Outstanding old school rock & roll

by mrstrat on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

I expected a good show and came away having seen a GREAT show. Nobody does old school any more, and BOC did a masterful job last night.

  • by WildReikiShaman on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

Unbelievable guitar riffs from Buck Dharma, especially on "Buck's Boogie," expected his guitar to catch on fire. The band as a whole wove incredibly complex melodies that transcended any common definition of heavy metal, and achieved musical art. They nailed "Then Came the Last Days of May," best jam I have ever heard. Wish they had done Astronomy, don't think they did any songs off "Secret Treaties." My ears are getting old, they are still in recovery mode, but it was worth it!

  • B.O.C. was tight

by rodzila on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

25 years after the last time I saw them and there still awesome and the emerald queen casino is the perfect venue.

  • Was just amazing

    by kristenames77 on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 5 out of 5

We went to the concert mainly for "Don't Fear the Reaper" but was amazed at all the songs they sang that we knew, "I'm Burning For you" and " Go, Go, Godzilla". I am 30 and was amazed at the older crowed and their abilty to keep things movining through the night. We only had a few knuckle Heads off to the conorner in front of us that where a little tipsy and spilling there drinks everywhere will dumping them on the people in front of them...Anyway When my sang came on I ended up standing on the chair to get an amazing veiw...It was great!!! Overall we had a blast and even ended up winning money at the casino so our whole night was free, it dosn't get any better than that...Thank You Blue Oyster Cult....it was GREAT!!!

  • B.O.C. is still good.

by iloveliverock on 10/25/09Emerald Queen Casino - TacomaRating: 4 out of 5

Great guitar work and some songs from them I've never seen them do live (this was my 6th time seeing them). Overall, still a good live band.

Hadn't seen BOC in over 20 years. I was thoroughly impressed with their performance. The audience was very much into the moment.

by carmat on 8/23/09Amphitheatre at Station Square - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

Have followed these guys from the beginning. Have seen them 10-12 times over the years. Last year in Erie,Pa. GREAT show. This year, not so much. While the band was tight, there seemed to be no chemistry or energy amongst them. Buck & Eric rarely interacted & it seemed Buck avoided Rudy. They had way too much technical difficulty, played nothing from the last 2 studio albums. They need new material to get the rest of the band envolved. Seems like it's turning into the Buck Dharma show ! Did get backstage to meet and talk to 'em. Never saw Buck, Eric, or Richie. Did get autographs on a shirt tho. Jules seemed pretty cool and Rudy was doing some kinda business. Never did talk to him or get autograph. Maybe we didn't wait long enuf.
