About

Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in New York in 1967. The group is well known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin, and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres . The band is a pioneer in heavy metal music both for its hard-edged musical assault and its use of sci-fi and occult imagery.

  • B.O.C. is the best Live Rock Band Ever

by Sleevemeister on 4/10/10Many - FontanaRating: 5 out of 5

We just drove from California to New Mexico to see the guys. We've seen them many times. Have tickets to Morongo, and Pac Amp already. Will probably drive to Ventura. If you like rock, you albsolutely HAVE to see B.O.C. live!!!

  • BOC ROCKS BBK!

by AJDC on 3/15/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Blue Oyster Cult around 4 times in the last 5 years & this was the best show of them all. BB Kings is an excellent place to watch a show and have a meal. The sound was clear but not deafining loud. They played a great mix of songs and showcased their individual musical talents with solo's. My only regret was that it was a little to short (not quite 90 mins) but they mentioned time restraints for the early show (nex't time I'll go to the late show). To the band- please play "Cities On Flame" at every show! It was missed!

  • Blue Oyster Cult awesome in NYC !!!

by RockinRickB on 3/15/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The weather was unkind and I traveled all the way from Philadelphia, but Blue Oyster Cult made it alright with one of their best performances ever. BOC did songs like Don't Fear The Reaper , Black Blade, Harvest Moon, & Burning For You -- just mention a few of the great songs they did in thier blistering 75 min set.

the band was good, the show was very quick and we spent $300 in one hour on beer and wine, it was ridiculous. we were all very disappointed

  • Shortest show ever?

by QuicklimeGirl on 3/15/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

This could be the shortest show I have ever seen BOC play - 1:15 including 1 song encore. I understand they had a second show at 10, but they easily could have played 3 more songs. On the plus side, they played some rare old songs and the sound was great. Huge negative was the prices BB King's charges for drinks

  • GODZILLA

by ChuckRocket on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Basically, it was awesome. I love the show, the band, the music. I was not however crazy about the place. I would have been happier in a concert type place as opposed too BB Kings, where you have to order food and you can't really stand up or scream "GODZILLA!!!" Awesome show nonetheless and worth the money.

  • still got it!

wildly happy that I decided to go out on a nasty, cold and hard-raining saturday night. BOC rocked.

  • BOC was great but....

by crow235 on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

with 2 concerts crammed in one night, it was just barely over an hour. Felt like they barely got started. If they had been allowed to play another 15 minutes, it would have felt I got my money's worth.

  • Classic BOC

by JohnfromNYC on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Nice to hear the classic songs live. Top of the line entertainment. The first time I seen BOC was in the late 70’s, they are better now. GOOD JOB BOC

  • BOC at bbkings

by timrusty on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

BOC was awesome..they were very energetic and playful...i stayed for both shows..first show was really good.....have a real problem with bb kings though...they told BOC they had to get off stage before they were allowed to play any encores in the 2nd show..seems bb kings had booked a hip hop show for the same night ...i personally will never go back to bb kings...BOC still rocks though...

  • Blue Oyster Cult got better as the gig went on

by TCI42 on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Blue Oyster Cult were brilliant. The show got better as the gig went on but they only played for just over an hour (obviously because they had another show to do the same night). They finished with Don't Fear the Reaper and left us all wanting more. Stage didn't seem big enough for the band though! Bass player from Queen was in the audience and joined BOC for Don't Fear the Reaper and the encore. That was a bonus.

  • Return to the Soft White Underbelly of Stony Brook

by 38Special on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Curiosity drove me through a March rain to BB King's Times Square music shop to see what's left of the band that filled the cafeterias of my college daze. Although it took a mighty effort by the bassist from White Snake, there was enough left of the original sound to bring it all back to life and make the effort worthwhile. However, I could have done without the jackass throwing up on my shoes in the men's room.

  • Absolutely Amazing

by Andrewellis on 3/14/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Not only were we 8 feet from the stage watching blue oyster cult but John Deacon, the bassist from queen was sitting at my table. This show was unforgettable!!

  • BOC

by Anonymous on 3/8/10Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 5 out of 5

Showcase Live is a great venue to see a show. I have been seeing Blue Oyster Cult since the lat 70's and they can still rock the house. Awesome show!!

  • BOC Sounds great!

    by BOC13 on 3/8/10Crocodile Rock - AllentownRating: 4 out of 5

The band looked and sounded great. Rudy Sarzo is a great additon on bass and it was great to see Danny Miranda again. Of course Eric Bloom and Buck were at there best. I was disappointed in the set list though. I wanted to hear Astonomy, ETI, Cites on Flame, Hot Rails to Hell, Harvest Moon and Golden Age of Leather. Here is the set list: 01 Summer of Love 02 Before The Kiss 03 Burnin' For You 04 Buck's Boogie 05 Shooting Shark 06 The Vigil 07 Black Blade 08 Last Days Of May 09 Godzilla 10 (Don't Fear) The Reaper 11 The Red & The Black Since they played Buck's Boogie I saw no need for any extra extended solos but there were many. I'd rather see 3 or 4 more songs and less extended solos.

  • Blue Oyster Cult - Still Kicks It!

    by BSB2 on 3/8/10Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 5 out of 5

BOC at Showcase Live at Patriot Place at Gillette. Our first time seeing a show at this venue. We liked it, very much. Tickets, parking, entry, seating - all a piece of cake. Nice. Well organized. Would definitely recommend seeing a show at Showcase Live. (no - I don't have stock in TicketMaster or Showcase Live). Opening Act - skillful, good solid sound (can't remember their name) - but - southern-fried rock. Played a long Allman Bros jam that was good - but man, seems like an odd choice for a BOC opener. Crowd definitely did not care about hearing these guys. I got antsy toward the end of their set, wanting it to end. BOC - rules. They came out and sounded fantastic. Everyone got pumped up immediately. Buck can put out so much amazing sound - seemingly effortlessly. When he gets the sustained echo going - it is really a wall of cool sound flowing at you, through you. Saw BOC a few months back, toward start of the tour, in New Bedford (of all places). This show - better sound. I love all the classics (Don't Fear, Godzilla, Cities, etc) - but the "newer" stuff sounded fantastic, too. Harvest Moon - rocked. Black Blade - little tough to pull off live - but good. They skipped Shooting Shark, which was a bummer, cause in New Bedford - they played that with killer extended jamming in the middle - that floored us. It blows me away to see BOC in small setting like this - after seeing them in the big stadiums in the old days. It's cool. Only complaint - sort of a short set. Only one encore. Even one more song would have rounded the whole show. But - can't complain. Holy crap - these guys have so many great songs and sound sooooooo good!!! Great night. Brought my daughters - they loved it. Saw lots of younger folks there - which was good. Not just a bunch of old guys, like me.

  • Great Band, lousy sound setup

    by chimbo32410 on 3/8/10Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 3 out of 5

Sat stage-side and was psych'd to see them. However, the sound setup was such that the amps for the keyboard/rhythm guitar was on one side of the stage, and the lead guitar and bass on the other side. Horrible - the keyboard/rhythm guitar blew everything else out. We could barely hear vocals, the lead guitar only once in a while, and bass was about 1/4 there.... I know it wasn't limited to us as people from the left side of the house further back also came to the front of the stage to tell the musicians (I can't even hear you!). Seemed to improve a little by the end of the show - but what a disappointment. Hopefully, if you were in the middle of the room further back it would sound better. Musician-wise - what we did hear was phenomenal. The keyboardist/guitarist (Andy Allen?) was great. Dharma and Sarzo were great! Individual solos were very good.

  • Surprisingly Powerful - BOC Rocks On

by NotJoeyK on 3/8/10Showcase Live - FoxboroRating: 4 out of 5

In a fit of nostalgia I thought of BOC several months ago and wondered whether or not they were still together. Looking them up, I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only were they still together, but that they were touring as well. Clasping my hands behind my head I leaned back and fondly recalled previous encounters with the band - all arena rock days - with the last being the great laser show that they used to incorporate into their act. I was a teenager then and as you might expect, recall very little of the shows (heh heh heh). I don't believe "Godzilla" or "Burning For You" were even written at the time but I do recall the laser show and that the band had a decent presence on stage. Imagine my delight when I am seated maybe 10 feet or so from the stage. "Wow, things have sure changed" I thought to myself. "Well, at best, these guys will probably just go through the motions..." The opening band (whose name I can't recall) were all decent musicians and were as tight a band as most that I've seen. Great lead singer and guitarists, bass was dead on, drummer was powerfully accurate and the keyboards were stunning. The tambourine / bongo player was also delightful to look at as well. You are a beautiful woman my dear...they should feature your singing more prominently. Next, BOC comes on and I have to say that I felt that the first song was weak. It just didn't do much for me and if anything, bolstered my belief that they were indeed, just going through the motions. Wrong. Eric started talking to us and I loved his sense of humor. I loved all of the songs after, save the encore song. I just couldn't hook up with the beat on that one. Besides I was really hoping for ANYTHING off of Secret Treaties. The only thing disappointing to me was that they played nothing from that very fine early album of theirs. Other than those minor drawbacks, Buck was ON FIRE!!!! The band was so very powerful on so many of the songs that I was just blown away!!! My overall impression of the evening was that it was a very well spent $30. I wish it could have gone longer and I would have loved to hear "Dominance and Submission"...or "Harvester of Eyes"...or "Astronomy"...or, well, you see where this is going... Rock on BOC - Thanks for kicking this old man's ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BOC ROCKS - BUCK DHARMA RULES

by PhillyCulter on 3/8/10Crocodile Rock - AllentownRating: 5 out of 5

Lead guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser continues to demonstrate year in and year out why he is the one of the premier guitar players in rock and roll history. If you have never seen him in action and your fan of good rock music and exemplary playing, you are definitely missing something. BOC never disappoints - never. Always worth the price of admission. My only complaint about this venue was that they pushed five warm up bands out first that were not very good. I'm all for exposing local talent and new music, but three of the five bands were just not worthy.
