About

Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

Same sound, same energy, same great memories. If you closed your eyes...even though you knew David Clayton Thomas was not on stage, his voice was. The horn section was record worthy. The Berklee hall was rockin. Can't wait for next year!

  • BS&T Great Show

Had a really nice time at the concert the other night. It wasn't jammed packed and was very enjoyable. The band was in superb form and sounded great. It was nice to hear some great music coming from some of "us" older guys. Brought back some memories of when I used to play some of their songs in some bands I was with. Glad I went.

My husband asked me to get tickets for the Blood, Sweat & Tears concert at the California Theatre in San Bernardino. I knew a few of their songs, so I was willing to go along, but it was great fun! The hornline was awesome, and I'm amazed how great the vocals were, too! Truly enjoyed the show.

Amazing musicians. Some band members have been together for 43 years and they're still as tight as ever. Thought we would miss David Clayton Thomas, but hardly noticed he wasn't there. California Theater of Performing Arts is an excellent venue with great acoustics. Top of the line musicians.

  • BS&T never get old

by dak3 on 9/28/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 4 out of 5

Great show by Steve Katz & the "new" BS&T - still the same wall of sound. Chuck Negron (from Three Dog Night) was simply icing on the cake. Highly recommended.

  • by drummertom on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 4 out of 5

Blood, Sweat and Tears were as tight as they ever have been. I would have liked to hear all of their originals instead of other artists. Their showmanship was very good. Chuck Negron sounded better than ever. Great show! I would see them again.

  • BS&T W/ Chuck Negron too loud & distorted

by CaptWill on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 2 out of 5

The actual show presentation was very good, but when the music started, it was like sitting next to a lawnmower running at full throttle. I've been to concerts before, both inside and out, and never experienced such volume levels. I fabricated ear plugs from a napkin just to endure the entire show. Someone from the support staff should have walked into the crowd area to vefify sound quality and volume level. I did witness several persons leave for what I believe was the volume level.

  • BS&T AND CHUCK NEGRON----FANTASTIC!!!!

by TOADHOPPER on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Blood, Sweat & Tears plus Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night and currently Affliction play in Ocean City MD on September 25th, 2010. They were both fantastic! It was like we were back in 1969. David Clayton Thomas and Chuck Negron's Voices were impeccable! They were both outstanding and the trumpet player from Miami was the best ever! You will not be disappointed in this show! We have attended many concerts in Ocean City, but this was by far the best!

  • both performances were great

by rhinosdad on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I had a great time with both performances taking us back to our younger days. Chuck still has it and I really enjoyed his casual style while on stage.

  • Great Show - FANS?

by hdterry on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 5 out of 5

Getting to see Blood Sweat and Tears again was a great time. David Clayton Thomas may not be singing with them any more, but that did not diminish that show one bit. Good Strong Music. Good Strong Voacals. Chuck Negron is still the voice we remember from Three Dog Night and the concert was really a lot of fun to be part of. Glad to see him back up on stage. Only down side is the venue at Sun Fest. Big white big top tent but not one fan to help move the heat around. It was warm outside and even warmer inside. Please set up a couple of big fans to run the air through the tent.

Chuck Negron was fantastic. Blood Sweat and Tears was a big dissappointment. the lead singer of BS&T acted like he was doing you a favor. He did not sing that long and did very few of their good songs.

  • BS&T with Chuck Negron

by Cdog4 on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the part of the concert with Chuck Negron was fantastic. The band was great when playing with Chuck as well. I was really disappointed with the Blood Sweat and Tears portion of the show. i thought the vocals were drawn out, the mix was off, and the singer seemed more like he was doing a broadway show then the David Clayton Thomas rendition's of the hits. Anyway, the show was worth it just for the part with Chuck Negron and the band was good.

  • Chuck Negron & BST

by jabeck on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 4 out of 5

Negron rocked all of the 3Dog Night songs - but BST was soso

  • BS&T Musicians are fantastic!

by ShoreBabe on 9/27/10Oc Inlet Parking Lot - Ocean CityRating: 4 out of 5

Blood Sweat and Tears musicians are absolutely amazing. The lead singer did a good job, however, David Clayton Thomas's signature voice cannot be duplicated. Chuck Negron's vocals are still there, however, he lacked energy on-stage. Again, the BS&T musicians and vocalists made the show.
