About

Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

Nostalgia and musical talent was all there! Obviously not the originals who I remember and have seen in the past; but the "Tribute Band," as it was, was fantastic.

  • Blood,Sweat,& Tears with Bo Bice was fantastic !

by suevan on 8/4/14Blue Ocean Music Hall - SalisburyRating: 5 out of 5

Bo Bice has a powerful voice and great stage presence. The musicians in the band are amazing. Bice and the band mesh perfectly. The show was energetic, exciting, and extremely entertaining. I highly recommend that anyone who has an opportunity to see Bo Bice with B,S,& T get themselves some tickets and prepare to have a great time!

  • Bo Bice with Blood, Sweat and Tears was a treat!

Really enjoyed the concert. Wasn't blown away but everyone sounded really good and it was great to hear all of my favorite BS&T songs live, something I never thought I would be able to do.

  • Blood Sweat and Tears by any other name...

by Lixy on 8/3/14Blue Ocean Music Hall - SalisburyRating: 5 out of 5

They were my first "favorite band". Fifty years later, they still are, and that's after my 20 years in the music business! But BS&T is less of a band now, and more of a BRAND. Over 140 different musicians have been able to say they were part of BS&T. None of the "original" guys, who have equity in the name, performed-I don't think they do anywhere, anymore. Young American Idol runner-up Bo Bice is an eyes-closed vocal clone of David Clayton Thomas, but got second billing to the band, and kept taking breaks by re-introducing them as Blood Sweat and Tears--as if we might have forgotten who we came to hear play. And there's something mismatched by a first-class band being fronted by a second place singer! He's good, but he's young, and he's no DCT. They still wail some of the greatest jazz-rock riffs ever written, VERY true to the originals. The repertoire is mostly the hits: Spinnin' Wheel, Heidi Ho, Smilin' Phases (even TRAFFIC never played it like this!) But instead of pulling out a classic gem from their book, the encores were the Ides of March's "Vehicle" and the Allman Brothers "Midnight Rambler"...since they're really only a cover band (in my book), they could have at least covered songs by the band whose name they proliferate!

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears Featuring Bo Bice was fantasy

I loved Bo on Idol and always loved Blood, Sweat & Tears, so when I saw they were together, I jumped at the chance to see them. The music was great, Bo's voice is amazing and I loved the intimate setting of the venue. I can't wait to see them again!

Thoroughly enjoyed the show and the venue. Small place with great sound and beautiful view! My only complaint was we weren't seated at the table we picked out online and they didn't serve water unless you bought a bottle.

  • wasted opportunity

by Songless on 8/3/14Blue Ocean Music Hall - SalisburyRating: 2 out of 5

Right off the bat I thought Bo Dice was "Las Vegas" professional. Dressed well, showmanship spot on, complimentary to band, almost in reverence. Voice was great, music speaks for itself. But, they played for an hour and ten minutes!! Maybe 8 songs!!! What a waste of such a catalog. And my only advice for Bo Dice is, let the fans finish the songs if they are singing. Twice you ruined an intimate moment between the audience and the music by almost whining about the fact that you couldn't sing the last verse. Roll with it!!

  • BS&T not even worthy of tribute band

by DisappointedVery on 8/3/14Blue Ocean Music Hall - SalisburyRating: 2 out of 5

I saw Blood Seat and Tears 3 years ago and was looking forward to another light and enjoyable evening . Too bad Bo Bice thinks he's a headlining singer instead of just having fun and making the event about BS&T songs. Oh, did I mention they sang as many songs from other groups of the era as BS&T, not entirely a bad thing since they butchered them. They should mention that there is no, unlike 3 years ago, remaining original member of the band as well.

  • BST Christopher Cross were Fabulous!!

This band is still great. Even with new members and a new singer they are fun to watch and listen to. I will see them again and again

  • Awesome musicians!

by TheoldCoach on 7/8/14Deep Water Amphitheater - MansonRating: 4 out of 5

Both Blood, Sweat & Tears and Christopher Cross had some of the best musicians I have ever heard. The horns, sax, bass, lead and keyboards were as good as they get. Bo Bice was a nice addition as his voice blended well with the old band's songs. Christopher Cross still has that amazing voice. It is too bad that the Deep Water so called Amphitheater did build their roof taller and put some sound absorbing panels in the ceiling to help the sound bounce. Overall a really good show.

  • BSAT - was super fun!!!

by llindell on 7/8/14Deep Water Amphitheater - MansonRating: 4 out of 5

The energy of the band was a amazing. The horns fabulous. It was a treat to watch a group that truly love to play music.

  • Blood sweat and tears/ christopher cross was okay

    by jmh15 on 7/8/14Deep Water Amphitheater - MansonRating: 4 out of 5

Over all I enjoyed the concert, especially the older songs I remembered, At times Bo Bice sounded just like the original singer but I thought he pranced around the stage a little to much. Loved when the horns kicked in they were awesome. the only problem I noticed was when the horns were on the the Right side of the stage, most of there sound was coming out of the left speaker, don't know who was doing the mixing but thought this was strange. Christopher cross's show as was BS&T were a little to short 1 hour each. Still happy I went

  • Wow !!!

I've told numerous people how great the show was. Every one that participated did an outstanding job. Fabulous music, love beau's hair cut. Dylan, what can I say other than, wish I was 19 again, you have a terrific career ahead. Schedule another performance and I'll be there. Thank you, you made me so very happy.

What a GREAT concert and a pleasant surprise to hear Bo Bice as the lead singer. His voice was a perfect fit for all the BS&T classic songs. The band was phenomenal, didn't miss a beat. They made me "So Very Happy". I'm so glad they came into my life!

by goal102 on 3/10/14The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 2 out of 5

It was not that exciting and I think the price of the tickets were over priced for what you get. Kind of a yawner. I noticed people more than normal leave to go back to the gaming tables.

  • BS&T w/ Bo Bice

by pinkbikerchick on 1/26/14MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa - Lake TahoeRating: 5 out of 5

Well, I though the show was worth the 2 1/2 hr one way drive. My seat was at the stage and whenever they came to the front I had to crane my neck up. The acoustics at the venue are really good and you don't get your ears blasted. I thought Bo would open up for BS&T, and was pleasantly surprised that he was in fact singing the whole show. He did an awesome job. And Brad gave me the setlist... Great Show Boys!!! THANK YOU!!!
