Blackberry Smoke on Tour

Though they've had their biggest success in the country market, the guys in Blackberry Smoke are rock 'n' rollers at heart. When they hit the concert stage, that becomes immediately apparent, but of course, so does the twangy side of their sound. Ultimately, what comes across is a roots-rocking blend that incorporates the influences of classic Southern rock, '70s/'80s heartland rockers and yes, a dash of modern country. And whether they're delivering a chugging good-time tune like "Rock and Roll Again" or a reflective ballad like "Let Me Down Easy," what comes through the loudest is the band's authenticity. These ol' boys are the real deal, playing it their own way with no nonsense and no rock-star moves. And since they do exactly what they feel, don't be surprised if that extends to covers of songs by their favorite artists such as Little Feat, The Grateful Dead or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Blackberry Smoke in Concert

Blackberry Smoke has always done things their own way, rising to stardom by building an audience from the ground up, remaining resolutely independent and staying true to their roots. The band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000, with singer/guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist Paul Jackson, and brothers Richard and Brit Turner on bass and drums, respectively, and that lineup remained intact into their breakthrough and beyond, adding keyboardist Brandon Still in 2009. They released their debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2003, but it wasn't until their third album, 2012's The Whippoorwill, that Blackberry Smoke started achieving major commercial traction. Their next record, 2015's Holding All the Roses, reached No. 1 on the country charts as well as No. 29 on the pop tally, underscoring the band's pan-genre appeal. Their homegrown blend of Southern rock and country has remained authentic and untainted through it all.

  • Dixie Kings Excellent - Blackberry uninspired

by Rollumeasy on 1/27/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 2 out of 5

The opening band Dixie Kings played an outstanding set which brought to life numerous tunes from their recent release. The lead vocalist was soulful and clearly has mastered his material which seemed limitless in it's appeal. Blackberry Smoke then followed with a lackluster performance which either was clearly uninspired or illustrated the limitations of the band/vocalist. Smoke faithfully delivered their hits but the rest of the material was larely forgettable---

  • Blackberry Smoke AWESOME Show!

by HoneyWhiskey on 1/27/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

The Delta Saints kicked off this show and were great! This was my first time seeing Blackberry Smoke and I'll definitely go see them again! Great show in a great venue with great friends! Doesn't get much better than that.

by KentJ on 1/27/14Egyptian Room at Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

As always, Blackberry Smoke lit the place up. The opening band, Delta Saints, were very good too. The venue was great once inside. However, early entry was supposed to get in at 6:50. Due to the cold weather outside, the venue allowed everyone inside the ticket booth area. This created utter chaos as everyone started to jump in front of others and the staff lost control. Thankfully we still managed front row center stage and had a smokin good time.

  • Blackberry Smoke is AMAZING!

    by AmberLou24 on 1/27/14The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 2nd time that I have seen Blackberry Smoke, but the first time with them as headliners. Their vocal and musical talent is second to none. You can tell this band has stood the test of time and has played together for many years. They are perfectly in sync with one another and know how to jam. This band plays music for all ages, as with my party there were members of the 20s, 40s, 50s, and 60s present and we all loved it! If it hadn't been a school night, my younger child would have attended as well! She loves the band just as much as we do! I highly recommend all check out this band that seems to be the music industry's best kept secret! I hope to see these guys getting radio airplay and even more exposure in the coming months/years! Would definitely go again anytime they are around STL or Southern Illinois!

  • by Anonymous on 1/21/14The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

BlackBerry Smoke puts on a great show live!!!! At times the vocals got a little lost in the mix. I would not hesitate to see them again and again, they have become one of my favorite bands. Also The Delta Saints was a great surprise, having never heard of them I quickly became a fan. Bought one of there CD"s before I left the event.

This was the second time I had seen BBS live and they sounded just like the records. It was me and my girlfriend's first time to the House of Blues and we loved it! Nice, small venue and it wasn't TOO overcrowded like some other places I've been. Loved the atmosphere at the HoB.

The band was awesome but the sound wasn't quite right. The opening band was clearer than blackberry smoke. Their performance was outstanding.

  • Blackberry Smoken!!

by jrayb on 1/19/14The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time at The Norva and it was excellent. I really like the size of the venue to be able to get up close to the artist. The Delta Saints opened and were very good. I have seen Smoke open for ZBB on several occasions but not as the headliner. THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! IT WAS GREAT TO HEAR A FULL SET OF THEIR SONGS!! May head to Raleigh in a few weeks to catch their show down there. Would highly recommend Blackberry Smoke and The Norva!!

  • Blackberry Smoke was fantastic as usual!

    by 8ndbbox on 1/18/14The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

This band has all the right ingredients to be super stars and to revive Southern Rock! The show in Richmond on 1/15 was awesome! Their set included ballads, hard rockin songs with gritty riffs and great covers of old classics. The lyrics to their original tunes are spot on, everyone sings along. Highly recommended to everyone who enjoys rock/southern rock/country.
