Blackbear in Concert

Blackbear's high-energy shows direct the spotlight onto his moody, emotional R&B jams. A jack of all trades in the music business, he also shows off his many talents in concert, hopping behind the keyboard stand and picking up guitars while hitting his signature high notes. Pairing simple yet effective video treatments with his gritty music, Blackbear's concerts are a feast for all the senses — and feelings.

Blackbear Background

Blackbear has been a force on the pop charts since 2012, when he co-wrote Justin Bieber's chart-topping smash "Boyfriend." In the following years he carved out a name for himself as one of pop-R&B's power players by collaborating with heavy hitters like fellow "Boyfriend" cowriter Mike Posner, hip-pop powerhouse G-Eazy and rap-rock superstars Linkin Park. The man behind Blackbear, Mat Musto, was born in Pennsylvania in 1990. He began his music career in Florida in his teens as the vocalist for the pop-punk band Polaroid, but shifted his focus in the early 2010s to the emotionally resonant R&B he's known for these days. He self-released his 2015 debut Deadroses, which included the G-Eazy team-up "90210," and followed it with another self-released album, Help. Eventually he signed to Interscope, releasing his gold-certified third album, Digital Druglord, in 2017 and Anonymous in April 2019, which featured the singles "1 Sided Love" and "High1X." Blackbear has remained extremely productive over the years, co-writing for Nick Jonas and Mike Shinoda as well as producing releases by Gnash and Tyler Carter in addition to his own touring and recording.

Previously, Blackbear has brought crowds to capacity at the likes of The Fillmore (Minneapolis), The Fillmore (Detroit) and the Coca-Cola Roxy (Atlanta).

Concert was great. Blackbear put on a great performance! Opening acts went well with the vibe of the concert. Venue was VERY hot and prices for food/drinks were expensive.

    First Concert as Chicago Resident

by Sasha on 9/20/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Really beautiful venue - it's a shame the top isn't open or available! It would have helped spread the crowd out, but I know it would mean hiring more security. Definitely looking forward to more concerts here, everyone who worked here seemed very friendly. It's been awhile since I have been to a club show, so I blame myself for mistaking the "7:30pm" as doors instead of the show's starting time. Because of this I unfortunately missed Heart Attack Man, half of the reason I paid the hefty ticket price on a whim. Got there in time for Waterparks - the other reason for going - but I think the production quality of the *vibe* outweighed the vocal performance (too obvious of backtracks for me). They are great entertainers and the crowd was really happy. Desperate to make the most of my ticket I stayed for Blackbear, a musician I was not familiar with, but it was obvious why the ticket was pricey - many fans were so pumped -- all ages from lil kids dancing beside me to late 20s/early 30s. I was caught off guard by the selfie videos the artist took as well as the guy standing very bluntly around him taking videos. The graphics were odd choices behind him. If I could I think I would have preferred to go to Riot Fest this day instead of pay $60 to see one band and one guy hanging out and singing with his big gulp cup and phone. It would have taken me just as long to get to this venue as it would have to Riot Fest and I would not have felt so alone or bored.

    Lame

by O. W. on 9/20/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

He was only on for 45 minutes, and ran off the stage randomly and was gone for like 5-10 minutes. Audio was messed up too, could barely hear him singing. Also- if the venue is gonna confiscate vapes that’s cool, but maybe don’t let the performer take their vape out and tell everyone to take a hit at the same time…lol. Overall just not great, kinda bummed I went because I liked his music but seeing it live kinda ruined it.

    AMAZING Concert!

by Gina Marie on 9/20/22Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Bear is always an amazing performer, but this show was so much fun! My boyfriend doesn't typically enjoy big crowds but even he had an amazing time. The venue was spacious enough that you could be on the floor with an INCREDIBLE view, but still have space to not feel on top of the person next to you or feel like you were overheating. Made the experience much more enjoyable than the typical GA seating setting. Bear absolutely crushed it - his energy was amazing and we had one of the best nights. Can't wait til next tour!

    BEST NIGHT!!!!!

    by Rachel <3 on 9/18/22

Blackbear’s performance was OUTSTANDING!! He has an amazing stage presence and an incredible voice!!!!! I went to the Nothing Matters tour, and the set list was a great selection of new and old songs, but I wish he had sung Nothing Matters!!! The two opening bands had a lot of energy which was so much fun to watch. Overall, I’d give this show an 11 out of 10!! Thanks Blackbear for an unforgettable night!!

    Not the best or worst

by C on 9/18/22The Andrew J Brady Music Center - Cincinnati

I finally got to see Blackbear for the first time since listening to his music when I was 15 (I’m 24 now). I’ve been to a lot of concerts, and while his show wasn’t terrible, you could tell the energy was off. He didn’t perform the last 3 songs and disappeared for 10 minutes in the middle of the show, and didn’t apologize or explain why. He had been sick the show prior so that’s why I assumed he didn’t sing the last 3 but he didn’t apologize or address why. While I love Blackbear and always will, I can’t lie and say I’m not a little disappointed I waited this long to see him to feel like he didn’t even care about our show.

    heartbroken.

by rachel on 9/17/22The Andrew J Brady Music Center - Cincinnati

Truthfully, I love blackbear. I have been dying to see him live since 2017. I know every word to any of his songs. This was my first ever show of his. His performance was amazing. He gave a lot of energy and heart. I was a little disappointed that once he came out, as the whole concert was rushed. He was on for less than an hour. State champs opened and played as long as he did. He didn’t even play the song “nothing matters” and it’s the nothing matters tour… his new album barely got any credit or was played. This was supposed to be a dream of mine and it’s turned sour. He once vanished for two songs and everybody else seemed confused as to what was going on. He came back out with another shirt on but it didn’t seem necessary since the show was so short. He never posted anything on social media about this show like he did with all of his other shows on this tour. I’m wondering if they’re all rushed like this? I would love to see him again and have another experience, but am still left so disappointed.
