Black Violin on Tour
The wait is over. Grammy-nominated hip-hop duo Black Violin have announced more than 55 dates for their 2022 tour. Off the heels of their successful 2019 album Take the Stairs, which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, the classically trained duo are eager to showcase their original style on the big stage. Audience members fawn over the raw talent displayed by the hip-hop group for their amazing performances that infuse classical arrangements from the violin and viola with modern 808's, high-hats and other genre-bending elements. "The concert had the audience clapping, waving, light shining, dancing and smiling," one audience member wrote in a review of their concert on Ticketmaster. Experience a diverse performance that features both original compositions from the group like the hit single "Stereotypes" from the album of the same name.
Black Violin Live in Concert
High school friends Kevin Sylvester (Kev Marcus) and Wilner Baptiste (Wil B) met in a Fort Lauderdale performing arts program as teens. While Sylvester plays the violin, Baptiste plays the viola and together they create a distinct sound that rocked the hip-hop community. Despite attending different colleges, the two gravitated back toward one another and decided to try their hand at music full-time. Their first taste of stardom came when they performed alongside Grammy winner Alicia Keys at the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. The duo used this momentum to provide musical support on tour for artists such as Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West. Baptiste also has musical credits on studio albums for hip-hop sensations Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B and Lil Wayne. In 2007, the duo released their self-titled debut album, and the follow-up, Classically Trained, a few years later. Their 2019 album Take the Stairs was nominated for a Grammy, the duo's first recognition. Most recently, Black Violin released their own spin on a Christmas album titled Give Thanks. In 2019, Sylvester, Baptiste and Phil Beaudreau founded their own label titled Di Versatile Music Group to promote the release of Take the Stairs, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Classical and Classical Crossover charts, and cracked the Top 10 on the Top New Artists chart and Hip Hop and R&B Chart.

I bought tickets to this event as a way of exposing my boys (ages 11 & 12) to music from a classical instrument, but presented in a different/modern way. I had never heard of this artist before, but the description sounded like something we'd all be interested in. Well let me tell you, Black Violin didn't disappoint! The concert was fun, energetic, and had me bopping my head right from the start. The performers have great energy and synergy that made their music and the performance greatly enjoyable. I would totally see them perform again!
The show was REALLY good! The musicians are talented, personable and got the audience involved in the performance. The group's blending of the classical, jazz, funk and hip-hop genres via the violin and viola is creative and it works! The DJ and drummer added some extra sizzle. Black Violin stated the joy of them living their dreams. Encouraging us to "...think outside the box...," dig deep and find out how much more we can be is an inspiring message! If you get a chance to experience their performance, check out Black Violin! Peace GDSUnlimited (Posted 2/25/14)
Enjoy the afternoon. Event was sold out last year so I really looking forward to this event. I would buy tickets for next year if they were on sale now.
The show was amazing. They played everything from jazz to classical to hip hop. Would recommend the show for anyone.
By far this is the most enjoyable event for this year. Lots of audience interaction giving it a personal experience. No restrictions as far as video, photos etc. They encouraged it!! All they wanted was the credits. Familiar face in the audience was Chris Rock, very humble. If you recognized him, he acknowledged you. No entourage. I admired that. I highly recommend this for all ages. Tickets sell out fast so buy early. Looking forward to their next visit to NJPAC.
My first time @ the PAC. Everyone was pleasant and treated me respectful. I felt welcomed and at home. Now event! Black Violin was a breath of fresh air. I recently bought a violin in hopes of having the pleasure of one day playing very well. They showed me the versatility of the violin. I am inspired. Many parents bought their children to show them first hand that young black men can do and be what they put their minds to achieve.
We had no idea what a treat we were in for. Loved every minute of the performance, and took away some great life lessons, too!
Amazing performance. Great music, great stage presence, totally engaging.
Outstanding performance! Please bring them back!!!
THIS COLLECTIVE OF YOUNG BLACK MEN WERE WHAT THE DREAM WAS ALL ABOUT. TALENT,POISE, ENERGY AND POSITIVE MESSAGES TO THEIR AUDIENCE. COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER SHOW
Outstanding performance. I was very impressed with the skill, professionalism and crowd interaction of BV. They surprised some, won new fans and put on an unforgettable show. Family friendly and funky!! I wish they would do 2 nights here. I will definitely look for them again.
Black Violin put on a great show. I took my daughter who is an aspiring violinist and she loved it. Especially liked the autograph session they had after the event. It was family friendly, and you can't beat that the even had free parking in downtown San Antonio which was great.
I enjoyed listening to Black Violin. They were great, different, moving and spectacular. I recommend for all ages to see them.
Finally, we found something the whole family could enjoy. I loved every moment.
I was amazed that two guys with violins could be so entertaining! They played some traditional classical music, but they added a little rap, jazz, hip hop and R&B to the classical tunes. Almost everyone were dancing in the aisles. It was a wonderfully different evening.
BLACK VIOLIN WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!!!! HOWEVER, THE PERSONNEL AT THE CAIN PARK TICKET OFFICE WAS HORRIBLE..... ANY WHERE ELSE, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE BLACK VIOLIN AGAIN....I POSTPONED MY VACATION IN ORDER TO GET A CHANCE TO SEE THEM LIVE & IT WAS WELL WORTH IT.
Awesome! These guys are great everyone from 6-60 enjoyed the show!
The concert was excellent, hope they return to Cleveland soon.
Amazing!!!!!!! Would love to see them come back. Willing to even travel to see them. This was a must see performance
